Bones Kickstarter #3 Discussion

Man, I just realized that this is going  to end at the worst possible time as far as getting internet access while on vacation.  At the beach it's problematic and the roads will be choked with people who are leaving or arriving so getting into town will be a pain,   Gah.

Admit  it, you feel sorry for me, don't you.

I am curious if people tend to add things to their pledge when they are revealed or when they are achieved. I realize this may be anecdotal and skewed due to only asking forum members, but which do you do?

Base Pledge, I'll add more when I see the mini I'm waiting for, the 5 headed Dragon. I had hopped Reaper was going to lead with it, but sadly not.

I think there's a good chance it may be a finale item.

I think they're holding out until it gets completed.

It's done. We're saving it for the finale, like we always do.

Pics or it didn't happen!

I can haz Tianot spoiler picturez?  Don't make me get the kittens and puppies!

As I've said before ... this core set seems to be almost tailor-made for me. I was in Bones II and the Bones III core contains also a lot of PC / NPC fighter/mage/rogue types. So with that part of Bones III and Bones II (and all the other stuff I have coming like Dungeon Saga), my fighter/mage/rogue/etc needs are covered.

I backed Battle Systems Fantasy Terrain, so I want my adventures (dungeons, rooms, castles) to be more 3d. I backed Twisting Catacombs for furniture (but did not get the torture items - so yeah for Bones III core). I do not have any werecreatures nor any townsfolk, but I have resin bar pieces - yeah for the dwarven innkeep. I also will get a smithy from Twisting Catacombs - yeah for the female smith. I have resin pieces for a bakery - so yeah for the Halfling cook.

I have some Ogres, but the Reaper Ogres remind me more of Bill, Bert and TOm ... and I don't have any trolls.

I was not in Bones I and one of the things I regret most is not getting Tre Manor's Orcs - so yeah for the four Orcs in the core set.

The only images we are authorized to show at this time are the preview images from ReaperCon. We have spoiled the secret (something we have never done before) but can't give away everything.

S'alright, we've only got at max another 12 days to wait on it.

The hard part about all of this is my 5 year old thinks we will have these in a month or so. I tried to explain it would be a year at least before we see any of them in our hands.

That just means you'll have to buy from retail to tide the child over!

Until the very end of the campaign, I tend to (like a lot of others, apparently), adjust when something I want is revealed, but I also tend to batch up a few "wish list" items, so I can bump my pledge by $15-30, rather than $5-10.

It is very likely that everything revealed before the last 24 hours will unlock at some point, and adding money sooner helps to make the thing you want unlock.

Sort of a bummer to me. I hope we see more generic useful stuff soon, and not just "things to fill in holes in your collection you didn't know you had".

I understand where you are coming from. Bones II felt like a whole lot of 'have to have' for me. This time the core feels great but the add-ons are dominated by things like kyra and lavarath which I know I'm not getting (sorry if a hero ever gets a dragon mount in any game I play I will rage quit). I have every Dragon Reaper ever made in Bones (15?) And only want Stormwing to complete my OCD, it's only the discount making me consider getting these ones, not because I am excited about them.

All the things I have really liked and know will see play on my table are in the core so far. That's good for my bottom line but feels like the things a gamer wants aren't as much in the add-ons as what a collector/painter wants.

But then I remind myself there is still a whole lot left to this kickstarter. And if I get only what's already known today there is still a LOT of cool stuff. I hope to see more. But the core heroes, the lizardmen, the ogres, the giants, torture set, villagers, crusaders, undying lords...wow. Yes sometimes it feels like peoples niche Dragon goals are outshadowing the useful stuff, but I'm still getting a lot of really cool and useful stuff and great bang for my buck. Only disappointment is Reaper isn't getting more of my money. That might change though, many days to go!

I would be very suprised if the five headed dragon is not released as part of this KS.  Since they already paid a sculptor to sculpt it and already previewed it as a major draw into the KS, I think they will put this up as a goal at some point before the campaign ends even if they have to sacrifice other potential stretch goals to do it.

And you could buy a used car for the price a metal version would cost...

Sure. No HERO will ever get a dragon mount. But Kitiara was not a hero...

You're sure you don't have a campaign finale Big Bad Evil Woman on a dragon in your game anywhere?

Just how tall is "Tianot"? I'm wondering it she'll fit in my display cabinet or not. She looked enormous in the pictures.

I'm not sure about her. I don't really need her from a gaming perspective, because it's unlikely to come up more than once, if ever, and even then, it's most likely to be needed before I get her. From a minis painter perspective, though, part of me really wants to take a crack at her, even if I'm not at the same level as the experts out there who are going to do crazy things like hollow her out and run LEDs through her throat and such.

My only complaint about Kyra and Lavarath is the adventure path I'm running will require a couple of Worms that Walk riding dragons and we'll likely make it there before Bones 3 delivery.

I recall seeing quotes of 15 or so inches?  You'd probably have to go back to the pictures of Tianot with Julie to get a rough estimate.

I think I may need to back my pledge off. I'm keeping it at $300 for now, because that's my budget, and I want to help unlock, but I think realistically, at this point, I'll only be in for $84, which is sad, and half of that is paint. I like a lot of the sculpts, and hate being a wet blanket, but most of the minis this time are so niche they will just never get used, or are just more PCs, and I just don't think I need any more PCs.

Sort of a bummer to me. I hope we see more generic useful stuff soon, and not just "things to fill in holes in your collection you didn't know you had".

Bones I and II had a lot of "generic useful stuff" and while I'm sorry to say this, we have to expand and grow our line in responsible ways. That means increasing and expanding the *variety* of offerings, not simply the *quantity*. That means as things progress, more and more niches are found, and exploited. So yeah, it means you aren't going to get the hordes of zombies skeletons and stuff. We have fewer orcs and goblins. But how many different Orcs do you think we have to have in the line? We don't think that adding as many as are already in the line again, just because this is a Kickstarter, is a great idea from a sales and line stability standpoint.

This is actually really good news, from my perspective.

I feel like I already have more assorted fantasy character models than I will ever paint. Offering up a wide variety of other options gives me the chance to fill in other gaps. It's a win all around!
