last scaling incident?  care to share for those of us unaware of this incident?

In the first KS the undead dragon Kaladrax was supposed to be smaller than Nethermaul (who was supposed to be the biggest dragon in the KS). He was misscaled when they cut the mold and he ended up being significantly larger than intended. That's how a $10 add on dragon in KS ends up retailing for $75.

As I understand it, the factory transposed scaling dimensions for Kaly, using the width dimension for height, or something similar. The result was a Kaladrax much bigger than intended. It's also why a lot of the details of that model seem so soft or out of proportion, compared to other Bones models (like the coins on his base). They were all intended to be smaller.

Bones Nethyrmaul, conversely, is smaller than Julie's original sculpt. My understanding is that Reaper scaled her down to offset the huge cost overrun on Kaladrax. They also released a limited edition Nethyrmaul that was the size of the original sculpt, and lovingly reproduced in super-sharp resin.

The official WoTC DnD Tiamat figure is about 1.5 x my fist. MAYBE 9in tall. Reaper's 5 headed dragon makes the WoTC 5 headed dragon look like a juvenile. And the image of Julie holding her sculpt is a bit deciving to the eye because the wings are not done. It's hard to see the wing armature because wire doesn't photograph well.

I'm trying to think of a polite way to say "Reaper have run two highly succesful Kickstarters, I'm sure they'll have a very clear idea of when they're going to release Tianot on a suspecting world" and this is literally the best I could come up with.

The other point is that I really, really, really doubt that half the backers are waiting on her.  To be somewhat blunt - those of us posting here tend towards the obsessive, "must have them all!" end of the spectrum.  I suspect that half the backers don't know Tianot is coming.  Yes, she's going to be a great central peice, but her sheer size makes her less usable for me.  I'll almost certainly be skipping her.

Yeah, orgianlly I was super excited for Tianot, then realized with the size and having not plainted previous dragons that I just didn't want her.

I still can't wait to see people lose thier minds when she is released :)  Especially the backers who don't know about her and haven't seen sneak peeks!

I'd advise you that if there is EVER a chance you might be into a big project as epic in scope as Tiamat that you get it during this KS. The retail price is going to be a lot more and this will be the best chance to get it affordably.

Admit it, Tianot will be part of a huuuuge Keep diorama, fighting the heroes without Dragonlances ...

The Dragonlance reference made my afternoon.

things like kyra and lavarath which I know I'm not getting (sorry if a hero ever gets a dragon mount in any game I play I will rage quit).

Sure. No HERO will ever get a dragon mount. But Kitiara was not a hero...

You're sure you don't have a campaign finale Big Bad Evil Woman on a dragon in your game anywhere?

More Dragonlance references to make my day!

...not big enough???

No kidding, right?

I mean we've gotta store it somewhere. My wife would probably be cool with it being the centerpiece on the Dining Room table, but she's probably the exception.

Seriously! The picture that has been reposted here is one of the originals I posted to Facebook during ReaperCon. That figure doesn't have filled out wings, or a base and various other parts that are going to fill out the sculpt. I sas that thing up close when I took those shots and Julie wasn't holding it in 2 hands because she was worried about damaging the thing..it was that heavy!

...yeah... most of the time Tianot was in the display case. Want. Preferably want at KS prices.

Was glad to see the Townspeople added; I like 'em. Although I'd think a blacksmith would be somewhat beefier in form...

I dunno, it looks to me like she has really well defined muscles. I think she will probably be the most muscley elf miniature I've ever seen. And even if she weren't an elf, Id still say she has a very realistic body type for a human. She has the same lean, wiry build as most of the blacksmiths that work in my local forge.

I never really thought that I'd be interested in Townsfolk miniatures, but I really like these.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that I plan on using the halfing cook & dwarven butcher with the undying halfling and dwarf as a before & after plague scenario.  I might have to practice sculpting a little chefs hat...

They were available for sale at RC '14.  I think for $195.  I was hemming and hawing the whole convention, and when I finally failed my Will save and gave in, someone had bought the last one about 5 minutes earlier.  I considered it Fate.

Well given that Reaper has released a limited edition resin (the Kraken) in Bones, hopefully they can make up for screwing us buyers of that model by making the limited edition Nethyrmaul available to everyone in it's original scale in bonseium.

Who screwed anybody?  The Resin model is and was limited edition.

That means increasing and expanding the *variety* of offerings, not simply the *quantity*. That means as things progress, more and more niches are found, and exploited.

The odd thing is that miniature companies haven't made many "bread and butter" miniatures, such as townsfolk, furniture, or even donkeys!

I almost backed Shadows of Brimstone because I could get a mule, and every single modern-day civilian I have still has a weapon!

So... thanks for these "niche" miniatures! The weapon sprues also appreciated, as are the bases.
