Bones Kickstarter #3 Discussion

Tempted to get the cannon add-on just to have a crew of steampunk people to work on Wyrmgear.  I like some of the "wyrmgear in the workshop" dioramas I've seen, and those guys look like they'd be very helpful for that.

Someone (on both Dakkadakka and the Kickstarter comments) has been asking how big the Kobold figures are from Expansion the First.  Are they scaled to the Kobolds from the first Kickstarter, or to the 'hero' Kobolds from the second?

 

I don't mind either way, but it would be nice for the Kobophiles amongst us to know exactly how we're going to terrorise our players in the future >.>

But I have questions about the cannon: will it be available from Reaper aftr the KS (I assume yes, but as it's a collaboration project, I'd like to be sure)? And will the crew be available separately from the cannon at any point in time?

  I'm giving serious thought to using it as the name of the world spanning Kobold empire I'm building a campaign around.  Picture it.  A small band of ex-slaves and travellers from distant lands in a world ruled by the most feared race across all the planes.  Dog-like howls in the night.  Sitting, shivering, under the uncaring stars as the mighty Kobophile Empire searches for the insignificant band of malcontents causing it a small measure of inconvenience.  Searching for the secrets of their rule, while all the time the might of the Empire shivers like a mailed fist held above the ones they hold dear.  One wrong step, and all that they love will be crushed like a small dog-like humanoid.

Temple dragon is part of Expansion 1?    I'm going to have to think long and hard whether it's worth waiting for retail to get the 3 or 4 things I want from Expansion 1 or not...  I mean, at retail they would almost cost $50 anyway, and even if I'm not super-keen to get all the other stuff it's not like I'm effectively paying for it...  Hmmm....

The value might be there this time. RBII's Ex 1&2 were fairly generic and would have a LOT of overlap for those with decent sized mini collections. RBII's Ex 3 was almost half terrain, which I personally put a low value on ( I buy minis for what I'm not good at sculpting, Terrain, I can craft. )

 

I really like the temple dragon as it's minimal base size makes it usable in more situations. And that's one of the reasons I also like the behir since its coiling posture lets the base stay reasonably sized, while still looking big enough to swallow a Heroic Scale^TM adventurer. Many Remorhaz minis for example, even Reaper's, barely look like they could choke down a halfling.

Agree. And really, that's only a Kaiju titan at CAV scale.

They're the smaller monster Kobolds like the first project.

I'm not sure. I believe Victoria Miniatures will be selling the item, actually, and how they break it up is their decision. But we might ALSO be selling it. Depends on the terms of the license.

The gun is a nice piece.  I may get it, but for now it's on my 'Ill think about it' list.

I agree the Gun looks cool, but I doubt I would ever use it in a game. It would probably just end up being a Diorama.

I was already onboard at the first stage.  But NOW????  Temple dragon and plant dragon and carnivorous plants and more kobolds????  Now I have to decide HOW MANY of this expansion I'm getting!  And you're telling me there's YET ANOTHER tier of awesome to be added to this expansion?????

This. This was my exact reaction. EXACTLY. 

 

The cannon is WAY COOL, and I'm super excited that we have it, but my wallet is a little relieved that this latest SG is not one for which I will be pledging. And I'm already in for an Expansion 1, and as much as I want to throw more money at it, because TEMPLE DRAGON AW YEAH (and a PLANT DRAGON :O ), I've already put in the $50 for it, and there's another 2 Expansions coming! 

 

Oh wow...Seeing the Titan, and knowing that he's another Kaiju...I actually kinda really want to put him on a base with some teeny tiny little buildings. Cuz I can totally see him being all RAWR I'M A BIG SCARY MONSTER AND I'M GONNA STOMP THIS VILLAGE!!

to me the brain in a jar doesn't feel like D&D.  comics or scifi sure.

WotC came out with an official D&D Brain in a Jar mini quite a while ago. That makes it canon.

I liked the Bones II sized kobolds a little more than the tiny ones. Still, these are much nicer sculpts than the ones from Bones I. Either way, kobolds are one of my weaknesses. They definitely help sell the expansion. All Bones kobolds will be mine. It's non-negotiable.
