Bones Kickstarter #3 Discussion

Glad to see Sir Forescale in the picture of the manticore and sphinx. They are smaller than what I thought but they are so beautiful that I cannot say no anyway.

The modern models in the mythos expension are wonderful, but since I have no use of modern or the monster, I'll wait the retail to buy what I really want. I must choose unfortunately. After all the big five head will come and I guess it will be between 30 and 50$ and my shipping will rise like a god. But for sure the giants, and the sphinx and manticore go in my basket. Also probably the first expension.

Can't wait to see the finale. My wallet can't wait too, but for a different reason... the more it last, the more it cost.

Dude.... Mythos expansion. I thought I was safe. But 14 human figs and a pack camel with removable equipment. Erg... I have to have that camel... it may be an after campaign addition.

And I thought that camel might be your work Andy. Most excellent!!

I can completely understand people being disappointed about the final level of the Mythos expansion - I'm not, because I can think of half a dozen uses for those figures.  What I find amusing is the number of people on the Kickstarter comments and other forums claiming that Reaper doesn't know what they're doing, and suggesting alternatives.

Is it just me, or is it fairly arrogant to suggest you know better than a company that's run several of the most successful Kickstarters in their field?  I have some sympathy for those who did it on Bones the First, and I guess I can understand it on Bones the Second, but to me Reaper have been displaying a masterclass in how to run a miniature Kickstarter this time around.  They've been proactive on managing the reveals, keeping interest high throughout the campaign.  They've been responsive in the unmanageable fetid swamp of the Kickstarter comments.  And I know that everything I've said is going to be written off by a fairly vocal minority as the ravings of a Reaper fan-boy, but to those people:  consider this.

In the roughly two and a half hours since the final slot of the Mythos expansion was announced, the Kickstarter total has increased by about  $7K an hour, and is beating the daily average by about $4k an hour.  That's not really the sign of a Kickstarter that doesn't understand what the backers want...

The mythos expansion is great! It's good for a Lovecraftian, Dracula, Sherlock Holmes or Steampunk scenario. Unfortunately, I just play D&D and have no use for it, but the miniatures are beautiful!

If I can convince my group to play any Victorian-era game, than I will add it to the pledge manager later.

Call me crazy, but I actually love the third part of expansion 2. PLEASE tell me that squid thingy comes off the obelisk--that's be amazing. Anyway, part 3 well may push me over the top.

Weak stretch goal with the weapons, though, imo. Hopefully the expansion wrap-up, with its third part, drives the $$$ strong.

I was all happy to be ignoring the mythos expansion, since I did just recently dump stupid amounts of money on the Cthulhu Wars boardgame which comes with tons of squiggly thing miniatures. So I was all like "I don't need any more crazy cthulhu monsters", and then they go and drop a cluster of cool looking investigators in there. Damn you reaper. Damn you!

And I, too, am hoping for a removable cthulhu head off that obelisk. I imagine a few people in this thread owuld be in a position to find out? Would you mind? *bats eyelashes* That'd probably get me to add that expansion. More scenery is always good.

I'm not in for expansion set 2, but I'm glad we know what's in the last piece of it. And yay a villainous armory! That succubus shield in particular would look great on an evil/dark knight version of Almaran I'd been thinking of painting up. Which would be the third model of him I've done, but whatever.

I'm also curious to see what the stretch goals will be with the ghost thing and the grim reaper sprite!

They know what they are doing alright, padding an expansion that should be full of monstrous monsters with bipeds and terrain.

Are you still going to allow people to join up via paypal through email?

I tried to email Reaper Projects but no response yet. Do I need to send an email to Kit or Ed instead?

Through email? That doesn't sound right.

I know we let people join the project after the Kickstarter Ends through our Pledge Manager AFTER we convert it over. It will be several weeks before that occurs.

I don't know what email you are using, try [email protected]

Maybe I should have said through Paypal, as Kickstarter doesn't support it (unless that has changed).

Okay, I guess I'll just be patient and wait until it ends. I guess I just worry about needing to get my foot in the door to avoid a price increase like with Bones 1.

I got the same deal with Bones 2, but I don't remember if latecomers had to pay more or not.

I guess I'll just be patient and see what happens. :)

I wish I had saved up some money for this. I'll probably just be getting a few options... so many neat things I want though. :D

The "problem" is that Reaper's not offering the most commonly wanted monsters, such as orcs and goblins, or not offering as many monsters as a small group of backers want (eg. more and more Mythos miniatures). But, with the commonly wanted monsters have already been offered in previous KS, Reaper has decided not to offer them again (funny thing, retail), and the market for these "super-niche" miniatures isn't as large as generic fantasy. In a way, we're hitting the "medium" part of long tail theory. The costs of the molds is the same, but the demand for a particular miniature sculpt decreases. It may not be unless it's in metal will a miniature be cost-effective to produce. Still, KS III is already doing 10x as well as CAV, which, essentially, is an actual example of what would happen if a company did provide depth over breadth (more miniatures of a specific genre).

Besides, Cthulhu War's next KS starts in September! Plenty of Mythos goodness to be had!
