Bones Kickstarter #3 Discussion

I'm glad they added those smaller goals in and unveiled another double goal. It makes me feel less panicky. I know I'm extreme but I just want to see lots of cool models available! I agree releasing the optional buys was a good move.

Only thing I am a litle disapointed in is the groupings... and by that I mean...

The Chill out set is awesome. $8 for 4 yetis and a wolf is cool... I will most certainly add an extra set, but... While I can Use 8 Yetis, I could also use 10+ Wolves... I dont really have more use for more than 8 yetis... So 2 wolves it is...

I had the same thought looking at the 20 wolves in zombiecide, but I realized I didn't really need 20 more, and reaper sells packs of 3 for 10$ : http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/wolves/latest/02830,  (1 set in cart)

\in addition to the dire wolves from bones , although they are not sold retail yet...

In light of the dragons I'm pledging for this time, I'm absolutely demanding of myself that DDS2 be painted by this time next year. Without fail. Just seems right.

September 2016 at Marvin's house.  DDS2 looks at all the new dragons coming in.  "I hope you like albino."

I spent 2 weeks (or more) painting one of my dragons white.  In fact it is the only Bones2 dragon I have painted.

I had to overcome this strong sense of futility, but it was the only one I had a clear vision for.  It turned out great.

Right now it is both paint sets, the Lycanthropes, The Black Corsairs and Kyra and Lavarath.

I might add more to my pledge when more gets available.

From the sneak peaks I remember the crystal and graveyard golem, and Sophies mom...

And the other werebeasts..

But look, 3 days and allready 900K.. Wow who can match that?

Reaper is doing something very right.

I am loving the fan support for Hobgobageddon this time around.  I've already got two sets of the metal hobgoblin trio, but with support being this vocal, I dream that we might see even more sculpts in the same style.  And that would make my day.

I so want Bones hobgoblins....

So far I've only backed the core set and the crusaders.  I love all of the add-ons that have been shown (especially Kyra & Lavarath), but knowing that I'll likely never finish painting my Bones II order I'm being a little pickier this time around.  Tianot is still going to be backed (obviously), as well as the gorgeous purple worm when it shows up.  I imagine that there will be others, but I've already got more dragons than I know what to do with.  I certainly don't begrudge having so many to choose from, though.

I definitely wouldn't say no to a round of Pathfinder Goblins.  The gobbos in the core set are nice, but I really like Pathfinder's style.

No Bones 3 for me I think.  The backlog is too large, and I get murdered between shipping, exchange rates, and tax.  Essentially, everything is <price>*2 because of those factors.

I am watching the KS with mild interest though.  I've put the following on my wishlist:

- Marthrangul

- Mouslings

- Kyra & Lavarath

- Paint Set B

If I put them all into the pledge calculator, they tally up to $71.  Add on $20 for shipping = $90 USD.  Convert to CAD = $115.  Add 5% tax = $120 CAD for 12 paints, 2 "epic" minis, and 8 mouslings.  That's way too much money.

Considering I have about 250+ minis still to paint from Bones 1 and 2, adding 10 more at a price of $12 each is steep.  Even if you strip out the paints and say 10 minis for $10 each, it's still crazy.

Reaper offers free shipping over $35 to Canada.  I'm better off waiting for retail prices and paying $0 shipping.  Mouslings will probably retail for $10-$15 (not much KS discount on those IMO, I find it hard to believe Reaps would charge more than $2 for a "small"-sized mini), the paints are $3.50 each = $40 US, and Kyra will probably retail for ~$35-$50.  So I'd pay $85-$100 USD.

Still, Reaper runs a fun Kickstarter and I'm enjoying the ride even if I'm not on board this time :)

Well, I'm now also in for a second set of Dem Orcs... The invisible heros (painting one set, especially the rogues, then light wash the other rogue to be then "When I'm stealthing" fig), and a second set of the lycanthropes so I can do my full epic Bear-o-dactyl saga.

Now I just need a good Pterodactyl, otherwise I'm going to use a plastic one from a kids dinosaur set...  Pterodactyl Mommy, then Druid WereBear daddy to avenge her death, then Bear-o-dactyl son hunting down the people who killed his parents!

Of this, I'm of course getting the base set, and I'm still trying to figure out whether I want another set of Lycanthropes (mostly for the weregator, though I'm sure I can make use of the werebat for kit-bashing purposes).

I don't need the Blackstar Corsairs ... but I want them anyway.  They look so COOL.  :D  Plus, I've got a whole punch of Blackstar Privateers I got on clearance years ago (armed with flamethrowers and miniguns), and I suppose these guys would greatly help to round out the forces.

I could even imagine using the Corsairs as mecha, alongside some Micro Machines cars (or similarly-scaled vehicles) for a differently-scaled bit of futuristic vehicular combat.  Their helmets are nicely vague enough that they would work well enough painted up as clear-canopy cockpits -- or completely-closed shells with only tiny dots painted on to represent the optic sensors.

I really loved the "Dragons Don't Share" diorama from last time, and half-regret not going in for more pieces.  Accordingly, I want to think that the Mystic Circle could come in handy at less than half the Kickstarter add-on price.  The trouble is, it looks too much like the sort of strip-mall game-store scenery piece I normally see sculpted with a hot wire out of pink foam and then slathered with sand-and-paint mix and dry-brushed grey.  In other words, I could do that tonight, without having to wait for the Bones to ship in, and without having to worry about boiling water to get the base to sit flat on the table.  I might change my mind if they could show some close-up shots that would give me some better appreciation for whatever detail and texture is on those pieces that I might not be able to accomplish myself (or at least not easily).  I think I'd find it more appealing if the stones were more cracked with clusters of moss growing on them, or had clinging vines, or had Celtic knotwork or runic carvings, or ... something.  Right now, they just look too shiny-smooth and bland.  I want to see some better pictures and be proven wrong.  :)

...

In the meantime, I just look forward to when all the Bones II Kickstarter figures were finally available through my local game store.  Some figures from the KS, I could really use more of, but my only source would be to patrol Ebay for people breaking up their Kickstarter sets and hoping I can get a decent deal even after the shipping & handling is figured in.  I'd much rather support my FLGS, but I can't if it's not even an SKU that I can custom-order through the store.

Did anyone else realize a life was taken off the bottom left corner of the map after the additional stretch prize was added? I bet the items carried also do things as well. That or I may be even crazier than I thought lol.
