Bones Kickstarter #3 Discussion

Reasons I love bones: they're durable, they don't require primer, they'd be easy to convert if I were brave enough to attempt such a thing (which I may with the weapons pack), they look great, they're inexpensive, my players also like them, and they beat the crap out of anything WotC produces (which is where the majority of my D&D minis are from for now, but that's changing).

Also, fingers still crossed for hobgoblins. And female monsters! That female frost giant looked awesome. Would love a few of those to issue orders to the frost giant warriors I'm getting. Debating getting more of those guys...

I prefer all D&D minis in bones now. No matter how careful I am with my mini I always rub paint off.

Or it gets knocked off the table.

Or the cat sits on it.

The stuff you can do with a bones mini! You can give painted bones (they do love the orcs)  to 3 year old boy twins. They will step on them they will kick them, they will throw them across the room... and they still are fine :)

Completely agree. Bones are pretty resistant to just about everything, and that's a good thing in my book.

If you're debating, the answer is yes.

The angel only argues for one extra, while the devil is suggesting a second Kickstarter account to get around the 10 limitation.

I like the Henge, but I wonder about the viability of more generic terrain/scenery elements in Bones.  Stuff like fences, hedges, boxes and crates, that could be used in a lot of settings.  I know there are companies that sell terrain, but they aren't Reaper, and it seems like Bonesium would be a perfect low cost option for a bunch of that stuff.

I did two sizes of crates, two sizes of barrels, sacks, jars, a table, a bench, and a bookcase for the Bones II KS.  They either are available now at retail or will be soon.

And they're awesome! (They are currently WIP sitting on my paint table)

Yep, still say we will hit the goal tomorrow, maybe very early tomorrow morning, but tomorrow. Nothing wrong with that, it's still a goal a day!

I think you're reasonably on spot for that prediction at the current rate of gain.  There is a chance that we have a Friday night surge, but what are the chances of that?  If not, probably somewhere around 1-2am Saturday.

I would think (for US backers) there are still a bunch of people on vacation, taking off work early to go somewhere for the weekend, dealing with kids out of school. I expect the KS to be steady with a bit of a lull in the middle.

I know in the East coast area people take off early on Friday and spend the weekend at the beach. We only have nice weather for so long.

Numbers Based on 1300-1400 Reaper time today:
Total to Next Goal - $33,386
Current Average Pledge - $110.21
New Backers This Hour - 16
Gain in last Hour - $2,034
Total Gain Today - $31,325

Pledge rate seems more sporadic today. Some highs and some lows (still nothing too low). I am starting to think it might be a middle of the night thing, unless there is a surge in the next few hours.

Well, it'll make for something awesome to wake up to!  Though poor Bryan needing to stay up till the middle of the night to post the update....

Also, thanks for compiling and posting the numbers!

I too support equal representation for female monsters!

Here is the sad state of gender equity in the monster kingdom:

Those ladymonsters who are able to find broader success in the hero-slaying business, generally have to resort to using their sexuality, and/or have no known male counterpart in their species to compete with.  The rest of the lady monsters are mainly relegated to cave-keeping and brood-rearing.  When they do set off to compete with male monsters in the workforce, they are often pigeonholed into the mystic professions (See 02933: Talanka, Ogre Shaman60027: Dorella Kreeg, Ogre Shaman, 02955: Krokuta, Gnoll Cleric03263: Ferrunk, Female Bugbear ClericBoneflail, Gnoll Cleric).  While broodrearing and shamanism/clericy are important professions that should also be honored in Bones, the ladymonsters press onward for further equality!  Ladymonsters want the right to pulverize heroes alongside their male counterparts, as equals!  They want to show the world that ladymonsters are just as capable of slicing off limbs or smashing in skulls as the males.

Bring on the ladymonsterocalypse!!!

Did the other bones KS spike on weekends?

Nope, they almost always slump off on weekends when we are all off work and away from our computers.

What he said. Also, this is pretty common with most Kickstarters in general.

      Goblins!
So awhile back I was horrified to discover that some old un-finished minis had sprouted a strange orange mold. I gave them a deep clean and seemed to have solved the issue (spoiler: I did not and it's affecting nearly all my minis... but that's a problem for another time).

As a reward for enduring the cleaning, these goblins deserved to finally get painted.

      Goblin Command (77349)
First up are these two baddies from one of the Bones 2 expansion sets.

These guys, being earlier bones, are a bit on the rough side, and definitely out-of-scale with the others. But that does help them stand out a bit.

      Goblin Warriors (77444)
Next up, we have our "heavy hitters" from Bones 3.

I like these sculpts a lot better. There's a uniformity in the face structure, while still having individuality between models.

      More Photos Below Spoiler:

      Goblin Skirmishers (77445)
The final batch of wimpier goblins from Bones 3.

These guys are the mookiest of mooks. Poorly armed, and poorly armored. These are the guys that get sent in first to soak up some arrows.

It's nice to finally have some painted goblins. Though my bag full of 50+ more unpainted goblins still taunts me.  I have plans to paint them in a few different shades from the yellow-green used here, to a fleshy yellow-tan, to a pale fleshy-grey.  Hopefully that'll break up the duplicates and add some variety.  But that's a future project.

After painting all these guys up I am tempted to finish the set with the Goblin Honor Guard.  They're the only ones I don't have. I can't see myself getting much use out of them, as they're a bit more situational or decorative than practical. But my completionist brain says I need them.

Reaper has so many incredible and different goblin sculpts.  Which ones are your favorites?

And a third NPC - his day job is boatswain, so I wanted the armor to not be full plate.... he's currently helping the party do a fetch quest for the captain. I'm pretty satisfied with what I got out for what I put in - but I do notice I seem to have forgotten his eyebrows!

      From Bones 3: Gug

"It was a paw, fully two feet and a half across, and equipped with formidable talons. After it came another paw, and after that a great black-furred arm to which both of the paws were attached by short forearms. Then two pink eyes shone, and the head of the awakened gug sentry, large as a barrel, wabbled into view. The eyes jutted two inches from each side, shaded by bony protuberances overgrown with coarse hairs. But the head was chiefly terrible because of the mouth. That mouth had great yellow fangs and ran from the top to the bottom of the head, opening vertically instead of horizontally."
