DSM Cat mage

My first mini from the recent DSM critters kickstarter.  fascinating levels of detail.  It was fun because I wanted to try some fur patterns and the kitties seemed to be the easiest to work with.  I do like the detail built into these minis, even the sconce has a little pile of coals at the bottom of the flame.  I probably didn't do the mini Justice in paint level but it was fun to paint. 

 

The only gripe I have with these minis is the bases.  They are integral to the mini and difficult to remove if you want to do any additional basing.  I tried to bury this one and attempted to simulated a just stopped lava flow to the cats feet.  I still don't know if I am happy with this or not.

 

C&C is very welcome here as I would like to improve on fur and also on some of my reds.  I have even gone back to some of the tutorials to see if they can help me use some of the new reds I have acquired.

These are indeed great minis, and yes the bases are a pain should you want to remove them,

I prefer my minis without bases (one of the reasons bones drives me nuts, but at least they are easy to remove).

the biggest problem with these is the miniatures clothing comes all the way down to the base, requiring a very delicate touch and a lot of work with a jewelers saw to remove the base from the miniature without damaging either the mini or leaving a lot of material with the mini making it even more difficult to rebase.  As you see I didn't even try here...

This is very well done, I'd say a bit more highlights in some areas and (again) hit the edges of the base with a matte black coat to finish it off since some paint hit the edges.

I LOVE the eyes & the WONDERFULLY expressive face...no easy accomplishment with all that fur. VERY WELL DONE!

The Darks Swords Beasty Folk remind moi of the Spell Singer characters...that's a plus.

Love to see these mini's getting some love here.  Mine are still sitting in there packages.  I really like what you've done with this mini.  Bases are tricky and I'm still learning how to mix integral bases with creative bases.  I think it needs just a bit more contrast, though only in the darkest recesses or highest spots where the light direction would be coming from.
