Foundations

Recommended Posts

We just launched our second Kickstarter Foundations!

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1613044699/foundations

We took the feedback and what we learned from our first kickstarter, and created this 3d printing project with a simple straightforward pledging system. We also are providing a flat white unpainted option for those who would like to paint their own bases. We would love community feedback and strive to constantly improve our offering.

This is a very quick two week Kickstarter with low funding goals!

Thanks,

Kevin and the Forge Prints team.

If they came in the lipped variety, instead of just beveled, I'd be more interested.

I could see getting a handful of these. Anyone see a reason not to take a chance on this with $10-20?

Some of these look very nice. A few questions:

What is a "25-30mm" base? Does my $2 allow me to choose a 25mm base or a 30mm base, or is it an odd in-between size?

Inexpensive scenic bases are a great boon for wargaming, but your size information needs to be clear so potential backers know what games work well with your bases.

Thanks for the feedback,

I will update the kickstarter so that it is more clear.  One of the great things with this being 3d printing is I can produce the bases at any exact size that is requested.  The intention of the pricing relates to the amount of build material it takes to produce the bases. I have them set for 25mm 30mm 40mm and 50mm but if some one wanted say 32mm they could be created.

I am also looking for suggestions on bases people would like to see, and I would be happy to have them added to our content catalog!  dsmiles when you say a lipped variety are you referring to more of the privateer press style?

Thanks for the feedback!

Kevin and the Forge Print team.

Yes. The Privateer Press/Wyrd style is what I'm referring to. I've found that the lip causes people to pick up the mini by said lip, instead of by the edge of the base or the mini itself. Less wear on the paint job.

Is there a specific base design that would be interesting that you just can't find? looking for some suggestions for future base designs!

dsmiles we will be putting up some of these bases with the lip as you suggested hope to get them in before the kickstarter is over, only 8 days to go and $811!

Thanks,

Kevin

We have not, but that is great feedback.

Changing from round to square or hex may require a bit more time then the duration left on this kickstarter.  We will attempt to get at least one done before the kickstarter is over, but will make sure to include those in future offerings.  Is there a particular base you would like to see in either square or hex? We love a challenge and will try and get one in before the clock runs out!

Kevin - I wish you all the best with this project (and I've backed up this statement with a pledge  ::): ) . I do wonder though if this product "slips through the cracks" between potential markets.

Who is your target audience here? In my experience, wargamers and RPGers who just want to get minis on the table don't really care about fancy finished bases. Typically, those who are more interested in fancy bases are painters who paint at a relatively high level, and the quality of 3D printing at the price point you're offering doesn't match up to what they can paint by hand.

I don't say this to discourage you; I'm trying to get a better understanding of the demand that exists. Perhaps you've found a new market to tap into: wargamers and RPGers who would like fancier (but not top-shelf quality) bases without the hassle of painting. Furthermore, I haven't done actual research on this topic, so everything I've put forth is based on anecdotal evidence.

As I backed Brayan's previous KS but never got my files (I got a email in regards to this KS) but a quick email response & I had my file that I backed + a bonus file. Love the look on the minis. The goblins can be new PC gobs for ReaperCon We Be Goblins. Love the Oriental dragon as well.
