Reaper Bones 3: Post-Kickstarter Discussion

I just want to say thank you to Reaper for kicking these things out fast enough that people are receiving shipping notifications in Canada.

We need to give reaper a break. They have had holdup after holdup from outside sources and have been the ones truly harmed by this.

How many months of sales had they lost due to their products being on another continent?

How many times have fans told them they were dissapointed when they were held hostage to the whims of fate and fortune.

They have even missed out on one upping some new competition while their items were held up by customs just a short distance away.

Our products haven't hit the breaks they have finally hit the gas!  Reaper has just been killing themselves to not be run over by it all!

Let's not make reaper employees feel worse by saying our patience is at an end just now when their work is the hardest and most needed for fulfillment.

They have them!  Finally no one stands in the way of our goodies!  (Except maybe the mailman ::crosses fingers::)

So everyone let's just take a breath and know that every shipping notice reported is one more that is out of Reapers hands and one more step toward Reaper bones Christmas!

I don't like to make promises I can't keep, and I WON'T make a promise if I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN KEEP IT OR NOT.

And that's just for ME. I SURE'S hell ain't gonna make promises for or about THE OUTFIT I WORK FOR. Particularly if I don't own the place, run the place, or make policy.

Sure, it'd be peachy if Bryan or somebody would IM me direct from the factory to let me know when my personal order is getting packed, ask if I'd like anything thrown in, and maybe serve me a sandwich, while he's at it. But this is not realistic or feasible, and if I were in the least bit serious, it'd be insulting at best.

I'm not happy about the delays. No one is. But I'm not prepared to get all hot and bothered about it, at least until I find out that the Pugh brothers have been consorting with the Russian government to hold back my minis for fun and profit and laughing at me behind my back for being dumb enough to give them my money. The fact is, NO one at Reaper is any happier about this than I am. And it irritates me to think that there's backers out there who seem to think that being an [expletive deleted] about it will somehow speed things up. Then again, I learned a hard lesson this past November about the number of chumps, jerks, jeeks, vaporheads, angerhelms, and [expletive deleted]s there are out there.

They'll get there. Ain't a matter of faith; Reaper's made up of pros, and they are well aware that their rep and their customers' goodwill depends on getting the product out. I'm not particularly worried about this. Particularly at THIS stage of the process. My goodies are late? Well, it ain't like they'll go bad in shipping or anything.

But I'll tell you right now, folks: Being an [expletive deleted] and doing the equivalent of a temper tantrum doesn't make the process go any quicker, and it won't get you anything extra, and these days, most places, it won't even get you a free Big Mac any more. At best, it just makes people resent you, and makes you look like an [expletive deleted].

Stuff's on the way, folks. Chill. It's coming, and it's paid for.

Hi Folks,

As the delivery of the latest set progresses, just wondering if anybody has done anything special to prep?

As for me, I'm in the process of building a lighted painting station from scrap wood (seen here as a WIP):

Lights are LEDs; staple gun as a size reference.

Not at all prepared. My minis are stored on various shelves (for big ones) and in plastic bead boxes (for small ones)

i did clear off off some shelf space, speed paint through my bones 2 back log, and bought a new bead box. So I guess those are my preparations =P

I have an admission to make.

Except for the paints, I never unpacked my Bones 2 stuff. Because reasons (delivered to a co-pledger's address; moved away; major heart surgery; and general procrastination).

Though with Bones 3 just around the corner, I could have myself a one man party of a ginormous moment of unpacking if I combine my Bones 2 stuff. :bday:

Preparation?

I ordered a lot of basing materials (like texture rolling pins ... seems an interesting idea to me as you can not only make bases like with the Basius pads - which I got a number of, too - , but also whole roads or walls).

I might go out and buy a storage box ...

I have vague plans of building a "tavern in a shoe carton" for which I might use the Bones III townsfolk ... could also be a dungeon to show off the torture devices ...

I have been telling my wife for a couple of months that I painted about 100 minis in the last year (might be closer to two years) to ward off statements like "you'll never paint all this" or "do you need that many new miniatures?" ... she knows what I have been backing since Bones III (Rum & Bones II, Massive Darkness, Rising Sun ... and and and ...).

I've just started preparing for my Bones 3 goodies. Unfortunately that really only means I'm finally getting around to organizing my Bones 1 and 2 minis! Maybe I'll have my organization plan in place, if not implemented, when my Bones 3 stuff arrives!

One thing I have done though is separated out the Giants and the Dragons into separate containers and am working on labeling them.

I have also recently finished putting together a portable painting table. Ok, it doesn't have all of the features I'm hoping for, but it is portable and has a magnifying lamp attached so these tired eyes can actually see the 20 halflings, uh, miniatures I'm trying to paint . . .

I bought a small display case.  (now filled)

and tried to reach my goal of painting 5 bones2 minis this month.   (1 remaining)

I am considering dividing my paint collection into 2 shoe boxes, to make room for new paints.  cause I am super organized like that.  I also checked that there is enough ceiling clearance to fit another box. (yes)

I have left 3 drawers empty in preparation.  The only problem is I don't know if that was enough as Mal will likely be 1 drawer all to himself.  If he even fits...I have my doubts....I don't know what I'm going to do if he doesn't fit...that is going to suck.  Then I'm going to get another shipment of containers for when they are painted...I'm kind of waiting on DF to release their castle on retail but that wont be until July at the earliest

I'm hoping they just took the knife away from you, and didn't actually have to *remove* a hand or finger or something. yikes.

*ETA: I used my keys when i used to open boxes all the dern time for my jiob, made accidentally cutting myself w/ a box cutter less likely (though sadly not impossible).

If it's that big a problem, you might want to look into getting one of these:

Don't get me wrong, it's ABSOLUTELY the wrong tool for a lot of jobs, and it's hard on the thumb, but it would hopefully cut down on your incidents. My work loves them (perhaps more than they should, they're trying to ban everything else. You cannot cut three inches of semi-rigid insulation with them without making an absolute mess of the job.) I'll verify they work as advertised on packing tape and cardboard just fine, though.
