The armored hoop skirt seems just as impractical as the chainmail bikini.

My favorite is still Casey Jones, I mean Linksman.

I'd so let someone use the armored hoop skirt as a tower shield in game. On the plus side, you can't drop it. On the minus side, you can't drop it.

The last two sets are pretty easy passes, for me--though the psion does tickle me, anyway--and I'm not sure what to do with the other two sets, as only half or so of the figures from each do it for me. I'd really like to see a pricing guide for adding individual minis to a pledge, I guess, see if I can make the magic happen that way. Too much swinging and missing, this time out.

I'm in agreement with you here. I like sets 1-2 (mostly), sets 3-4 don't do it for me other than that Psion. I'll be adding him on individually when they put up their pricing sheet for individual add-ons, I'm assuming that'll be up in about a week or so and that the individuals will be around $4-5 each.

Druid. Just looks like the dwarf one and I didn't like that sculpt 1/5

Staff of hambledons: I like the whole set so just going to say 5/5 I need commoners and for those to be halflings is neat. Another halfling mini in here would be nice but the pony and kart look really fun and I can use them for a lot.

Midwinters Guardians: 3/5 A mixed bag of selections for sure. Some favourites, some disappointments.

Rogue. 5/5 Love it! Classic/cliche hobbit sure, but being a female ranks this high.

Cleric. 2/5 Dull and unimaginative design and pose.

Wizard. 2/5 Not a fan of open hand flames or halflings that don't look like halflings.

Archer. 5/5 Another favourite that looks like a halfling adventurer that means business.

Fighter. 5/5 See the Archer comment above.

Paladin. 2/5 Another dull and unimaginative pose and design.

Druid. 1/5 Enough with Druids having horns. Left arm and leg look awkward/dislocated.

Apprentice. 3/5 Not a fan of the flame, but at least this looks like a halfling.

Sorcerer. 1/5 Personally don't "get" the frogs. Would have preferred pixies or fairies.

Second Breakfast. 5/5 Enough said.

Buttonwood band: 2/5 Another mixed bag. One awesome but too many terrible.

Bard. 5/5 Love Love Love it! My favourite halting of them all so far.

Mage. 3/5 Not a fan of spell effects sculpted as part of a mini.

Digger. 0/5 Don't "get" this one at all. Bad concept.

Potion maker. 4/5 Like it!

Lorekeeper. 4/5 Again. Like it!

Herald. 1/5 Pixies/fairies > frogs

Ranger. 2/5 Meh.

Linksman. 0/5 Bad concept.

General. 0/5 A joke concept that shouldn't have made it to the drawing board.

Mole. 0/5 Meh.

Staff of hambledons: 5/5 I can see this being a love it or leave it set depending on how you feel about having townsfolk minis. I love it!

Barkeeper. 4/5 A bit too clicheic and stern to rate a 5. I'd expect a halfing barkeep to be more genial.

Serving maid. 4/5 I like it but the arm looks a bit awkward.

Inn keeper. 5/5 Like it. A good useful figure that could see many different uses in a campaign.

Stableman. 5/5 Like it.

Cook. 5/5 . Like it, but I'm unsure what she's holding in her left hand.

Cart & pony + extras. 5/5 I've always wanted a pony and the extras for the cart look very useful.

Black watch alliance: 4/5 Perhaps the most eclectic set, but a very inspirational one for campaign character ideas.

Thief. 5/5. I'd paint her up like Daryl Hannah's character in Blade Runner and have her be just as acrobatic and deadly.

Fighter. Heavy knight. 5/5 Looks evil. Would make a great villian.

Ratcatcher. 5/5 A character full of character.

Witch. 4/5 Wish she didn't have that broom, too on the nose, she'd make a better mini without it. Conversion needed.

Psion. 4/5 Could be a very versatile mini to represent various classes. I like his overall look.

Warrior. 1/5 Don't like the concept.

Hunter. 1/5 Pixies/fairies > frogs.

Skelly. 4/5 Could have gone with the hollow eyed mummified look, but the skelly's not bad.

Honeymage. 3/5 I'm on the fence on this. I'm hoping the actual mini will be useful with some conversions.

Halfling Feet & Pipes. 3/5 Again, one the fence with these. Not sure how useful they'd actually be.

Treant. 4/5 Can't help but think of this as a tree troll. Might upgrade this to a 5/5 once the green is shown.

Overall, as with all of Stonehavens previous kickstarters that I participated in, there are some hits out of the park along with a few missed swings with the bulk of the concepts falling somewhere in the middle.

While there are a lot of concepts I absolutely love, I have noticed that the poses and designs for the standard character classes seem to be getting somewhat stale, more creativity is needed there, while there were too many outlandish concepts that missed the mark for me.

I'm mainly hoping for:

a muscle-bound halfing berserker (not Blanka)

a monk doing an uppercut

a traveler with a pack the same size as his body

a shady card player

a cyborg assassin

Okay, doing this to see if it helps me figure out what I want to do. Including an average score regarding how they strike me, followed by an actual average in parentheses--though the smalls bits are not included in this average, as I find them all, at best, pointless and unworthy of consideration. Tried to go with gut instinct, mostly, to get at how I really feel about each individually.

Not much surprise, I think. The groups I felt like I liked more--the first two--score middling because of sculpts I sincerely dislike. Slightly surprising, perhaps, that Buttonwood climbs a little higher, as there are sculpts I rather hate included; It also includes some of my favorites, though. Very polarizing.

The other two sets are right out excepting a couple possible add-ons. Entirely pricing-dependent.

I want some halflings. That's a given. But I don't think I want to do both sets and spend $50 on a bunch of minis of which I only really like about half. There are about eight I really want, but to get about a set's worth by picking and choosing appears, by current indications, to be as costly as paying for two sets. Unless I affordably can pick and choose my decision seems to be this: Do I go with Midwinter, which runs a better steady average--useful sculpts if not as endearing--or do I go with Buttonwood, which includes my favorite sculpts but also ones I find, frankly, awful?

Midwinters Guardians: 3/5 (2.89)
Rogue. 5/5 One of the better concepts they've had.
Cleric. 3/5 Nothing special, but I like it.
Wizard. 2/5 Beard ruins it for me.
Archer. 2/5 Meh in most every sense.
Fighter. 3/5 Better pose but pretty blah.
Paladin. 3/5 Like the cleric, nothing special but likable. I'm not sure I see halflings quite like these--these classes, maybe--which is their most redeeming quality.
Druid. 2/5 Liked at first, but has soured. Pretty bland.
Apprentice. 4/5 Rather liked this guy, for some reason.
Sorcerer. 2/5 Not into the gripplis or what's-it. This one seems overloaded but cute, which I guess is their M.O.
Second Breakfast. 1/5 Meh. Whatever.

Buttonwood band: 3/5 (3)
Bard. 5/5 Quite liked her.
Mage. 4/5 Really liked her, too; I dig spell effects for whatever dumb reason.
Digger. 1/5 Because I'm operating on a 1-5 scale and not 0-5.
Potion maker. 3/5 Keep going back and forth on this one--hate the snake. An alchemist halfling's pretty cool, though.
Lorekeeper. 4/5 Again. Hate the beard but like the overall concept.
Herald. 1/5 Just so . . . whatever.
Ranger. 5/5 Really like the bald halfling.
Linksman. 1/5 Again, because I don't go any lower than "1."
General. 3/5 Useless but fun.
Mole. 1/5 Meh.

Staff of hambledons: 2/5 (2.67)
Barkeeper. 2/5 Generic.
Serving maid. 2/5 Dull.
Inn keeper. 4/5 Interesting, at least.
Stableman. 3/5 Okay.
Cook. 1/5 Boring.
Cart and pony. 4/5 Useful.
Fireworks and produce: 1/5 Meh.

Black watch alliance: 2/5 (2.22)
Thief. 4/5. I really like her.
Fighter. 2/5 Meh.
Ratcatcher. 1/5 Too much, too much.
Witch. 3/5 Pretty all right.
Psion. 4/5 Nice and different.
Warrior. 1/5 Silly.
Hunter. 1/5 Just not feeling it.
Skelly. 1/5 Uninteresting, to me. I don't like their skeletons in general, I don't think. Too cartoony, even by their standards.
Honeymage. 3/5 Dumb concept redeemable by ignoring the bees, in which case that becomes an interesting staff.
Halfling Feet & Pipes. 1/5 Do not like.

Treant. 1/5 Looks like a sculpt that went wrong during their half-orc campaign.
