Bones You'd Like to See, thread #3

PEOPLE:

Ordinary Townsfolk, Rural Peasants, & the well-do-do.  Walking or standing about, not doing anything or equipped with anything, so that they can be used for whatever NPC is needed.  Preferably in more or less authentic historical dress.

Folk dressed for varied time periods or cultures:  Toga-clad Romans, sackcloth-clad Dark Age peasants, attractively-attired folk of the Arabian Nights, pointy-hatted Medieval ladies, and bare-skinned tribesmen, Tribesmen, TRIBESMEN!

Screaming bystanders during the attack on the village; dancers at the duke's assassin-tempting ball; customers crowding the market during the big chase scene; the bossy princess rescued by the heroes; unequipped nobodies chained in the dungeon; human shields used by the villain's thugs:  normal folk have endless uses as obstacles, challenges, & victory conditions!

ANIMALS:

Wildlife, Farm Creatures, and Prehistoric Beasts.

Where is Medieval fantasy without the noble hunt for the Stag or Boar?!  (Or simply a hunt for Deer by heroes in the wild?)  And one of the greatest historical hunting challenges, the great wild ox Aurochs, doesn't seem to exist in gaming scale from any manufacturer.

Livestock wander all over the rural village & countryside.  Various animals would be useful, particularly those which no one seems to make:  fattened geese, medieval White Park-style cattle (or even attractively primitive-looking Highland-style), 4-horned Manx-type sheep.  PCs buy animals because they can; a precious hen needs to be protected until returned to its owner; sheep swamp the heroes, with wolves close on their heels; the village is destitute if the young heroes can't stop the Kobolds from running off with the season's lambs!  Animals are atmospheric, and provide additional victory objects, obstacles, bait, and comic relief!

Aside from dinosaurs, the mammals & birds of Prehistory are badly under represented.  Assorted Terror Birds; other-than-woolly Mammoths; most massive mammal Indricotheres; gigantic mammal predator Andrewsarchus; sabre-thoothed Cats...Wonderfully evocative beasts can menace heroes from the lost time between civilization & the dinosaurs!

There are a boat load of recommendations in this thread (no way could I real them all without having an episode), so I apologize if this has already been said. I would like to see a blister of 25 or 30 LOOSE skulls of varying sizes for embellishing bases and such.

People on cool mounts? Not that bears and horses aren't cool. And I know we're getting a dragonrider out of Bones III, but like an elven lord on a unicorn or a hippogriff, gryphon riders, orcs on wargs, a hobgoblin on a triceratops.. stuff like that would be neat.

Also not-githyanki/githzerai. I know there are the astral reavers that Bobby Jackson did. Sooo transferring them to Bones would be neat, or all new sculpts.

I keep editing because I keep thinking of more stuff. More samurai and ninja! There are a number of them in metal, but only 1 of each in Bones. Female examples of both would be rad too!

Speaking of people on cool mounts, I think we need to get Roderic Ambermead and Glitter in bones! I'd like the current sculpt as well as a more action oriented sculpt!

A little love for the light side:

03746: Ava Justinia, Female Templar (so she can hang out with her buddies in the upcoming Bones III Crusaders add-on)

14234: Guardian Beast, Crusaders Monster

Male Angels - one that fits a 1" base and another, larger angel scaled for a 2" base.  We have the upcoming Solar, but no male counterparts to the more human-looking angels.

Some stuff I suggested in previous and would still enjoy seeing in Bones:

  • Displacer Cats (not-Displacer Beasts)
  • Eye Beasts (not-Beholders)
  • Megafauna (and dire animals, real and imaginary - mammoths, giant sloths, sabre cats, etc.)
  • Cave People
  • Devolved "Frazetta Man" ape-men types (these have been stock fantasy mooks since Tarzan and Conan, etc., and would surely work just as well in Chronoscope, Lovecraftian horror, and pulp fantasy/sci-fi/adventure of all sorts)
  • Cannibal "savages"
  • Non-European adventurers, villains, and Townsfolk (inspiration from the Arabian Nights stories and Harryhausen Sinbad movies have always made for worthy fantasy characters, and deserve a little more attention!)
  • Non-European myth monsters (Yokai, Bunyips, etc.)
  • Stock Slasher-movie Bogeymen (generic Freddy, Jason, Michael, etc.) made fantasy-friendly - perhaps dressed up Steampunk or Weird-West style
  • Terrain bits of all sorts (furniture, jungle idols, tiki-men, totem poles, shrines and altars, stew pots)
  • More weapon/gear sprues (tools, improvised weapons, guns, spell-books and wands and magic stuff, etc.)
  • Generic villain mooks from any genre (masked cultists, thugs and goon squads, gangsters, Robin Hood style forest bandits and highwaymen, Indiana Jones-style thieves with scimitars and turbans, etc.)
  • Generic humble townsfolk, quest-givers, hostages, dungeon-dwellers, merchants, village priests or sages, etc.
  • More working NPCs (thieves picking locks, miners, woodsmen, stonemasons, scribes, etc.), to conscript as militia and henchmen.
  • Historical military figures ("army men") from assorted eras
  • As always, Halflings, Gnomes/Svirfneblin, and fey creatures; actually, maybe more elves might be nice to see at this point (since the last Kickstarter or two brought us so many great dwarf sculpts...)
  • As Dr_Automaton's avatar says above:  "Bones Needs Robots!"
  • For fun:
    • Planetary Romance figures ("John Carter of Mars" sword-and-spaceship stuff)
    • Ray-Gun Gothic Sci-Fi humans (inspired by "Buck Rogers" and "Flash Gordon"), aliens, and robots
    • Retro-style fantasy adventurer types (inspired by RPG illustrations from the 1970s and 1980s - sure they're goofy, but fun!), in pre-generated dungeon-crawl packages
    • Universal Gothic Horror monsters (Frankenstein monster, Dracula, Wolf-Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Invisible Man, Mummy, etc.)
    • The Most Metal Villains Ever *guitar riff* - hooded, robed, faceless, and horned zombie/demon/jack-booted-warlord guys in leather and spikes (just perfect for those goofy retro fantasy adventurers to get beat up by)

I would like to see this guy 03422: Dire Crocodile as well as a version with mouth closed. More animals are always good. And more terrain. I am so excited for the terrain that will be coming in my Bones III!

In addition to the crocodiles, hippos! (Can you tell my campaign is leading the adventurers into Egypt? Sorry, the land of Kemet to keep that fantasy flair!) Let's throw in flamingos!  This guy would be good too 02597: Mzima, Stone Golem!

I don't know why I am making suggestions. I already have so many unpainted goodies!

I liked it so much I put a ring on it had to quote it.
