painting gnolls

Recommended Posts

i need some one to give me alittle advice for painting gnolls. i am trying to get good shading and high lights using a light yellow tan for a base. washing it with a grey wash and then highlighting it with a yellow but my colors keep comming out muddy. i know it will be difficult with nothing to look at and critique. but if some one can suggest a better color scheme or another topic on the forums i would be greatful. thanks.

Maybe it's the grey wash that is causing the muddiness? Perhaps you could try a wash that is more tonally similar to your base coat, a sepia or yellow/brown for example?

Or you could search Google for images of gnoll minis and see how others have visualised or painted them for inspiration?

Hope this helps! ::):

 You'll want a darker color for your wash, and definitely not grey... You normally want a fairly dark color for your wash as it gets very translucent when diluted that much.

 For painting a gnoll, I'd go with brown liner or walnut brown for your wash - any very dark brown color.

My last gnoll was brown liner base with a highlights of two light browns. (Oiled Leather and Tanned Highlight maybe? Not near my paint desk or I would check)

Golden Shadow was the fur color I out sparingly over Brown Liner.
