77102 Ebonwrath - First Dragon!

Recommended Posts

So I found a UK supplier with okay postage for some Reaper figures - including Ebonwrath, who I've been rather wanting since I first spotted him. So I bought him, and a couple of other bits and bobs, and now I've started painting him. This is the first thing I've painted at home, and so the first thing I've painted without supervision, lol.

I've ordered some more paints, because I've got a couple of things I wanna try out, but what do.

So um, yes, this thread will follow my attempt at doing this mostly by myself, instead of being able to throw it at Drifter and ask if I've done it right, lol.

So Ebonbothered turned up and was a tad warped in his packaging, but no big deal. Cue my trusty colander and kettle, time to boil and adjust him a bit.

His wings had a bit of a weird going on. 11811460_10153231429193451_5126489996082

And now it's the middle of the night and all I've done is manage like half of his base coat.

Ew, camera flash, etc. Also, check out my super high tech painting space - a teatowel on my couch and a tuppaware box. Yeah!

Black paint is P3 Thamar Black, and I'll be depositing a nice big heap of GW paints on him as soon as they arrive =]

Ahh, I feel guilty for posting such a boring basecoat =[ but um, yes, I'll hopefully have my GW paints arrive tomorrow and then I can make him look better and post better things. His wings, despite boiling, are creeping back to form at the moment, so I may bully them back again tomorrow. Once he's fully basecoated also, I'll stick him together - figured I'd just be making work for myself if I stuck him together too early here.

Seeing as I've got a whole bundle of dragons coming next year thanks to the Bones III KS, I need to learn to paint them decently >=]

Cheers ^^;

It's half two in the morning here, so Imma disappear off to bed because I have work tomorrow - but fingers crossed my paints arrive, and then I can paint him more and provide updates when I get home in the evening.

After having now left him about 20 hours since boiling and freezing, I can attest his wings have relaxed a bit, but to be honest, they did that in the first couple of hours. They've not gone back to the original weird shape though, so s'all good =]

Looking at Ebonpeeved in daylight now too, I'm pleasantly surprised that I don't actually seem to have missed much on my basecoat =]

I'm relatively accustomed to thermoplastics, so the boil-and-freeze technique is comfortably familiar to me, so I'm rather happy with tampering with stuff that way.

I painted his wing membranes in warpfiend grey (citadel) and then dumped a load of water on them and started going to town with Naggaroth Night (also citadel) =]

His back membranes got the same treatment =] and I painted his belly armour with naggaroth night too. His mouth I painted with, guess what, naggaroth night xD and then I brushed a bit of khorne red onto his tongue.

I'm now just having a party with druchii violet and am adding purple tones all over the place.

I'm gonna add some purple tones to his body and shiz, and then hopefully I can stick him together a little bit =D

Thanks ^_^

His wings are a gigantic testing ground for me at the moment... Just layering paint to see what it does, because I have very little idea and this is my first unsupervised paint xD as well as working out methods for stuff I want to do later and better.

Uh oh. I've been here long enough to know not to have anybody here unsupervised. Especially Buglips.

More on topic, love the purple you're adding to the wings and frill, I'm eager to see how this is going to turn out.

Haha xD my whopping total of two other paints (a warg and my DnD character conversion) were done under the watchful eye of Drifter, but what the hey, best way to learn is to play? I'm already planning my Ma'al paint ^^; got so many things I want to learn to do well before he gets here.

But woo =] thank you, hopefully he won't disappoint you ^^

You'll never disappoint us. No matter how it turns out, it will be a learning experience. I've found out so many things already, and I'm just barely beginning to paint my first mini. If you do everything perfectly all the time, then you've learned nothing. Or, to put it more wisely, " Good judgement comes from experience. And experience usually comes from bad judgement." Alright, fortune cookie away! *flies off*
