2015 Fall Exchange - Chatter Thread

Recommended Posts

Mmm...okay, I'm in. ^_^ This recent one was actually quite enjoyable; it was sadly late, but I didn't let myself get nearly as stressed out as I have in the past. Which I think resulted in a better overall paint job, anyhow. ^_^

PM incoming.... *folds up paper airplane and throws it at ub3r*

Huzzah!

Better late and have enjoyed the process, than on time and being overly stressed during the painting time. Or at least i think so

Mmm...I'm dithering. I just can't seem to ever get an exchange figure out on time.  But they are a lot of fun.... Hm.

I'm happy to do one with you outside of (but in conjunction with) the fall exchange, if you like.  Let me know, it'll give me an excuse to paint some more of my model horde! :D

This time around, I'm not doing another diorama. 1-2 figures will be it for me, the 4-figure thing took a lot more time than I thought it would and even though I had a lot of fun, I was stressing out to get it done in time.

I'm in, though I'll wait until I'm home to send in my survey.  I have a lot of game stuff I want to get painted (finally) and my free time is pretty much eaten up by the track until October, so I'm only aiming to do 1 fig this time (not 6....and not a great huge one).

I reserve the right to get super inspired and totally change my mind on that, of course.... ::D:

Replying to this over here since it's chatter.

After taking the summer off i'm in again! My wife is due with our second baby this month so I will probably be sending mine out close to the deadline to give myself more time!

Double awesome! Congrats on the upcoming new mini!

I don't see any problems waiting until the end to finish, people paint at different speeds and have things come up in their lives all the time, that's why we set it at two months to paint 1 (or more) figure(s).

Hurry up ub3r!

I need my exchangee, so I can know what to paint. So I can get to painting. I've got to finish this and my Halloween vignette soon.

I am going for the hat trick-third exchange this year. I'm in.

I love these. They're the perfect blend of challenge from trying to paint what my partner requests and relaxation* because there's plenty** of time and it's fun to paint for someone else. Also, it's exciting to anticipate what you're going to get from someone else.

*The deadlines may cause some degree of panic, but it's good panic. 😅

**Sort of subjective, I realize. I tend to bring mine right down to the wire, but it really is enough time for the most part.

Yep, I love doing these things. They help keep me motivated when I have deadlines and am painting for someone else.

So, I'm working on a miniature for my Box of Many Things exchange partner, more commonly known as a "Thinger" among those long time participants. This happens on the Twitters and you can search for it by sticking one those hashtag/pound sign/number sign thingies in front of BoxofManyThings in the search thingy there. Basically, it is like a Secret Santa type thing for geeks and nerds that happens every couple months. Sign ups for the next one should start near the end of October, if you are interested.

Anywho, my "Thinger" is interested in, among other things, Medusas. So, since I'm kind of not up to much due to a severe lack of AC at my place, I've decided to try to distract myself from the fact I am alternating between melting and immolating at this time by making a custom mini and painting it. Also, attempt to chronicle it too.

My exchange partner this year was Fealron and one of the ideas suggested was a new enemy or villain to throw against his players.  I had this guy on hand and wondered if a giant werewolf would fit the bill:

      14030: Vasyl, Rageclaw Alpha

While I was painting that I came across these guys and they just begged to be henchmen:

The one in the middle I believe is an old Grenadier, the others are clix.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch I did a little digging and discovered that Fealron has a set of DwarvenForge, so I felt compelled to paint these as a gift.  It's all molded from Hirst Arts molds (except the barrel mimic).  I hope they provide hours of fun play.

My partner this time around was Clearman.  He requested a heroic character painted heroically, and nothing says heroic quite like the word "Hellknight."  Of course, I haven't actually played the adventure(s) that Pathfinder Hellknights appear in so maybe they are cuddly people.  We'll say she just finished up a heroic day of undead slaying.

Metals are TMM, which my camera hates, but I think I managed to get a few decent shots.  For something different I painted the base using pigments rather than hobby paints. I used the wet method of applying them and the color shift is huge, so I wasn't sure how they would come out until they dried.  Of course you can be intentionally sloppy because any pigments on the mini's boots just help "tie the figure to its base." I freehanded some wood grain onto the shaft of the weapon just to add some interest to the boring space.

Any interest in a new round of trading cards?

What is an artist trading card (ATC)?
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards

Artist trading cards (ATCs) are miniature pieces of art that are traded around the world. Artists create, trade and collect art at organized "swap" events, either in person or online. The only official rule for ATCs is the size: 2.5" x 3.5". Most swaps are open to any media, materials or techniques as long as the card fits into a standard trading card sleeve.

      http://www.tinteddy.com/introduction-to-atcs-what-are-artist-trading-cards/

If I can get 6 or more people I will set up a round of 1-1 trades for forum members. Post here or PM me if you'd like to participate.  I am thinking of an Oct 1 start date and Dec 1 due (in the mail) date.
