After priming, I airbrushed all the scaled skin with Tamiya Neutral Grey, and part of the wings and leg feathers with GW Scab Red.

Not much yet more tomorrow.

As always, C&C Welcome!

Thanks for the kind words all!

Tonights mission will be to clean up the greys that got over sprayed, and at least base coat the head neck. I plan on doing that with the same colors I do human skin with....

I am wondering if I should do 'traditional' yellow / orange on the legs below the feathers.

Also wondering in what direction to go with the grey 'scaly' areas. Green / blue as in reptiles, Orange / red as a 'trad' demon? Brown not likely, the other 3 demons have lots of browns in them... Or maybe a white / grey / black...

Descisions, descisions...

Guess that is what makes painting fun!

Anyone have suggestions, sing out!

ps Lots of good reference pics on web of vultures! Some have some vivid colors! They are not all just grey....

OK

Been a while since I worked on this guy, he won't make the August cut, but...

I recently got new brushes, and am learning to wet blend and layer so he is a transition figure....

I re did the skin in a darker shade (GW Tanned Flesh), then washed it with GW Flesh wash. Tonight I went up a step with GW Dwarf Flesh in a layering style. Still getting a handle on how to do this, and I used my new Da Vinci Maestro #1 to do it. It kept spliting on me, don't know why, first time I used it...

Couple of pics:

Need to figure out a color for the body scales as well.... Any thoughts?

comments welcome! Tell me what I am doing right, better yet, tell me what I am doing wrong! (A much longer list I am sure!)

More work here as well....

I wanted to make the skin a bit more interesting, and remembered someone recently posting a Toad, that they added spots to, and decided that was what it needed. So I dotted on a 50 / 50 mix of SC75 Black and Wood from Inktensity. Some stayed in spots, some ran where it wanted and got cleaned. I left some in the recesses as well.

Forgot to mention that the chain mail got done with the same base coat colors as the sword blade.

Then went to work on the 'Golds', again SC75 Viking, Dwarf, and Elven golds, for the shoulder piece, sword furniture, and buckles. Going to look close at the 'Alchemies' in that set to see if I can go higher still...

post-14271-0-92200300-1441115839_thumb.jpg.

The sword blade got some SC75 Heavy Metal (Got to love a paint with that name!)

I think he is going to get a shot of Dullcote tonight, as the inks are making him shiny in places, and I like to see things how they will be when I am working on a figure....

Need to figure out what color to do his 'skirt' in as well...

Any thoughts? I am thinking either a blue or green as the front runners...

Hopefully more work tonight!

Got a bit of work done last night and tonight, added SC75 Cantabric Blue to his kilt. I chose blue to complement the Red and Yellow in his feathers

SC75 Speed Metal to the sword edges.

Washed the 'Black" feathers with a mix of GW Blue and Black inks.

His horns got another coat of GW Snakebite Leather, then a thinned coat of GW Bleached Bone.

Close ups of Face:

The top of the beak got some of the belt high light mix before the Orange Leather was added. I painted the beak this way from a reference photo of a vulture

I am thinking I might need to glaze the skin a little darker with the base coat color of GW Tanned Flesh...

Thoughts anyone?

This style of painting certainly takes longer than my old style, but the results are worth it. Every new mini helps me push on a little farther....

These may be / are 'table top quality' for many of you out there, but for me these are the best I have done!

The best thing is that each min completed becomes the new Best! (At least so far... )

A spot of work got done on the Vrock last night...

Not a heck of a lot to show, but I used SC75 Inktensity Yellow with a tiny dab of Chestnut on the yellow parts of the feathers. I think I need to either do it a few more times at that concentration, or add more chestnut ink to the mix.

The Red feathers on the wings and legs got Inktensity Red ink, Then SC75 Aldebaran Red to start high lighting them. Feathers are a pain...

The Belt buckle and studs on his belts got coated with SC75 Decayed Metal, the Old copper. They are hard to see at the moment, but that will (hopefully) change as I move up the scale of coppers...
