styates
Trophies for the week are up. And I agree, I hate the teams that never change their rosters.
Qwyksilver
Well, that's one quick way to eliminate some teams.Take up space, don't play. Boot. [ADDED] And Frank better have gotten the Upset of the Week Award![/ADD] Yes!!! Good call on that one. If I had set up my starters a little better I would have gotten a win, but oh well. [ADDED II] Not even trying to hide my contempt in the comments of my Smack Talk board for my game this week... Rupert Oldcorn
Course games don't start until 18:00 on a Sunday so no real need to make changes until the last minute (unless you have Thursday players) he seems to have a full squad against you now. On the subject of league size and benches I don't really have any frame of reference, Matt Berry was talking about people in 12 and 16 size leagues. As for bench I know I'm guilty of hoarding players, I only ever have a defence/kicker cover once the bye weeks start, and then he's gone to maximise the number of rb / wrs I have to pick from. styates
I do the same thing, Rupert. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that in the current setup. What Heisler is talking about is limiting our bench size to fewer players and if that's something that the league would like to do, I'm all for it. Qwyksilver
RE: Waiting until the last minute. I'm all for that. The problem is, it's not the first time that's happened. And there have been players on the Bye left as starters in past games when that was unnecessary. Waiting until the last minute is fine, so long as you actually do it in time, otherwise, what the hell. It's not like starting a line up is necessarily going to make you change your lineup. And after last season, with a player just drafting, and then doing pretty much nothing all season once they felt they were done, it's frustrating to see the same thing happening again. And would changes have been made if the behavior wasn't called out? Because they were not in Week 7 against Randy. Or during other weeks when honestly, there were players on going on tears being left on the bench when starters had been stinking out the joint. If you goto the League tab, you can see transactions by team. Which includes when you actually make an adjustment to your roster just by moving players between the bench and starters. Every other team has tons of changes. Nothing was done in over a month. RE: Bench size/league size. I think 12 teams are fine. It's worked through all the past years. This season it's been pretty wonky. There have been a ton of big time injuries which I think makes the talent pool more diluted. And if a team has taken multiple hits, that can hurt. I'd rather not reduce bench size either, because I like being able to pick and choose between my players to maximize things like match-ups, and carrying a player either in the event of injury, break out, or other reasons. If we want to add more quality players into the rotations, I think dropping the number of points we have as keepers would function better. Less points being kept would mean more quality players would go into the draft each year. Instead of 8, why not 6. I like bargain hunting. Every year I've picked up some great players off the waiver wires. Look at how Stefan Diggs and Gary Barnridge have been doing. I picked those guys up in week 4 and 5. Having a bench allows you to take a chance on a rookie or an unknown in the event they do break out. Heisler
What I have found is that the leagues that I play in that keep the bench very small are a lot more active. Obviously there are going to be a lot more free agent activity, but what it also creates is a lot more trading between teams. Our league does just about zero trading and I think its because the bench size is so large. I want to see a more active league than what we have going right now. Qwyksilver
I was a lot more interested in trading before the keeper reboot, since I was getting to the point where I had to offload talent because I couldn't afford them any longer. A mid season trade of talent means key players are less expensive to keep the following season. Off season trades don't really help out with this because of what we agreed to in the past. But mid season, I was always for it. But usually trades don't mean more talent becomes available, it just exchanges equal level of talent between teams. And then that talent will be held on to for an extra year or two because it now costs less for that annual point total. I've been in a few trades over the years, but most were in the off season. I'd love to see people more willing to trade. I'd love to upgrade my QB or WR positions, but I seriously doubt anyone would want to help me get better at this point in the season. Although, what you trade to me could help me this season, and then I won't be able to keep everyone, but you might be able to keep the guy I traded to you, and pick your original guy back up in the draft next year. But I don't think folks think about the long game and the long term sustainability of the team. The size of the bench won't encourage trades. Because the same level of upper tier talent will still be held on to, it just means people won't stash rookies or injured players or risky players for the long game. People aren't trading because there is little motivation to trade. Bench size just puts more potential talent up for grabs weekly off the waiver wires. If we're going to continue with keepers, and want to see more movement of talent, reducing the points people have to spend will see more of the upper tier players moved, plus people might be more willing to trade mid season, just to reduce the point value. I drafted, and held onto Jordy Nelson all year, not for this season, but for when he comes back next year. My SOB brother took Kelvin Benjamin before I could for the same reason. Play the long game. Not just the current season. I still loved that trade we had where I got Wilson for Kapernik BTW Edited November 8, 2015 by Qwyksilver
Heisler
I'm going to disagree with you Mike. The size of our bench actively discourages trades because of the amount of talent that can be held on to during the season. The league I play in that only allows 4 bench players has trades happening on a weekly basis.
Qwyksilver
I would argue that because the guys in that league are active and into trading, and that's the culture of the league. Not because of the bench size. A small bench is just as likely to mean more waiver activity as trading. Trading has to be something everyone in the league wants to do. It's more a culture thing. Otherwise, you'll see what we do here, which is people trade, but with the waiver wire and free agency, instead of other teams. haldir
I'm all for a 6 pt keeper for next year. As far as bench size. I like it the way it is now.
Heisler
An active league culture is certainly something I would like to see here. I would hazard to guess that we have maybe 6 truly active participants. While I certainly won't argue with thinking long term I would like to see something that would allow teams that are performing badly just not give up half way through the season, which is exactly what happens here. The only way to do that is to get quality players back into the pool. Since it doesn't happen via trade then it needs to happen some other way; reduce the number of teams and/or reduce the number of bench players available. Since we reset I figured we were resetting keeper points as well, so everyone should have 8 since you didn't need to spend any this season. haldir
Since we reset I figured we were resetting keeper points as well, so everyone should have 8 since you didn't need to spend any this season. I was under that impression as well. One reason why I snagged Mariota (well besides being a former Duck). Looking at him to be my future qb. Still thou I'm all for a lower keeper point. If it's 6 like Qwyk proposed then 10 players are going back into the pool for the draft next season. Heck I can't get a decent RB. Of course the back I drafted wasn't doing squat for me so I dumped him. After that he starts to to turn it on. You never know what might happen. I picked up Snead as he was a unknown & a Saints. I thought I could again strike Colston-gold. The way he has played this year, I may have done that again. With a smaller bench size, how are we to find those diamonds. Granted I think this is the first year I've carried more then 2 QBs on my bench, let alone 3 overall. Usually I'm good with just 1 unless he gets hurt or has a bye week. Really thou I just wanna keep my top scoring bench intact........... Granted I don't want to lose anyone butt maybe next year ask the owners that kinda threw the towel in this season if they really want to commit next year. I know we had someone who wanted in this year. Might as well let them in & drop the people that are just letting their team rot (along with valuable players that could be helping other teams)

Qwyksilver
Holy hell. I thought it was just Dion Lewis. Now Luck has a lacerated kidney and ruptured abdominal muscles. Looks like my chances of being the first back to back champion is swiftly disappearing.
