I recently discovered Happy on SYFY.  It’s about finding a kidnapped girl with an imaginary friend. Actually it is weird and funny in a twisted way without being grim. Also funniest martial art fight ever. It’s rated WTF.  Not for young kids tho.

Went to try this as the first season is on Netflix now.  It was... unique.  Whoever said new material is dead hasnt seen this yet.  I cant say its pretty but it is pretty good and definitely has some really original ideas.    including a few 'never saw that before' moments.  I was originally going to watch 1 episode but wound up staying up a little too late and binge watching the first season.  Hopefully I can pace myself when i find season 2.

Definitely for mature audiences but I did enjoy it.  Both characters and plot were interesting enough to keep me engaged and the flavor was dark but campy enough to keep it from becoming too grim.

I kept trying to decide if I liked Happy! or not. In the end I reckon I did. It was both ridiculous but captivating. I like Meloni a lot.

It was actually somehow the least annoying I've found Patton Oswalt in a long time too.

I agree 100% with this!  It's also nice to see a show where the female leads start off strong and intelligent and stay that way for the entire show!

As for Oswalt I think ist because he's in a role that is supposed to be more annoying than he is.

Finished all five seasons of Agents of Shield on Netflix. Not sure how I feel about the fifth season, still digesting it (binge-watching does require a bit of post-binge processing). The climactic battle at the end was rather anti-climactic.

As an aside, I swear the actor Peter Mensah doesn't age. He looks the same through all the roles in which I have seen him for the past 15ish years (Hidalgo, 300, Spartacus, Midnight Texas, etc). Must be nice.

Hubby got me watching Babylon 5, which I've never seen before. We're only a few episodes into the first season, but it's pretty decent so far. Hubby says it gets better in season 2, which is apparently when they ditch the yawn inducing Sinclair. Seriously, nothing he says is interesting, especially compared to the other performances.

Season 1 is decent, season 2 good, seasons 3 and 4 excellent and 5 back to good. There's a few episodes that are better or worse scattered throughout but it's my choice for top scifi show ever. Sheridan is a much better character and actor than Sinclair. Wish the sequels/attempts to keep it going weren't so bad. Crusade was ok and the rest not good.

Since there hasn't been much on TV lately, I've been slowly working my way through my big list of anime shows that sound interesting, but it hasn't been going very well.

So far, I've managed to watch to completion Dimension W (not bad, but needed to be a heck of a lot longer if they expected me to care about the plot or anything) and Girls Last Tour (not my usual kind of show, but it was oddly enthralling), but everything else (about 8 other series at this point) has been very meh, and I just can't make it past the first three or four episodes.

I'm beginning to suspect anime may just not be my thing anymore.

Finished another series, The Magnificent Kotobukis (it's about a group of female pilots in a dieselpunk wasteland world) and it still managed to annoy the heck out of me. The world-building was poor and didn't stand up to the slightest scrutiny, the plot was nonexistent until the last few episodes and the characters remained the same stock stereotypes throughout (I pretty much only stuck with it because I liked the aerial dogfights).

Unfortunately, I think this applies to a lot of anime (and TV shows in general) out there, it just wasn't something I really noticed in the past.

Have you tried Wise Man's Grandson? It's really good. I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned in this thread before, but I don't remember who mentioned it.

Also really liking Rise of the Shield Hero, right now.

I have not, I'll have to give them a watch.

Although having read up on them, I don't think I'll like them, I kinda despise the whole 'Normal dudes transported to a fantasy world' genre that's so big right now (Magic Knight Rayearth is the only decent example IMO).

Happy!  was weird to get started on.

by the middle, I was loving it.

I like the main Character straight up saying that he just can't seem to die.

- otherwise what he regularly survives would have broken my suspension of disbelief.

Ah, then you probably wouldn't dig these so much. Wise man's grandson puts less emphasis on the character's background than shield hero or that time I got Reincarnated as a Slime, but it's still there. I just think they're really cute and sweet.

Watched Stranger Things S3 this weekend. It was excellent, and ramped up all the cheesy tropes just right. It did seem to end in a more.... endish fashion, but not necessarily. This season was more on the Horror side than past seasons (gore), but didn't seem out of place, and didn't get into the horror-is-boring issue I usually have (because story came first).

Possible taglines: How much trouble can your kids get into when you leave them unsupervised?

Some brands bought their way onto the show and we love it.

Stacking debuffs is fun... for the DM.
