Yeah, not at all like Lodoss War. It's ok but doesn't compare to better shows. Almost finished watching it now. I'm a bit sick and a lot bored so don't mind watching it at the edge of being asleep on the couch.
Marvin
Haha, Can't kjock that. I was, er, watching Golden Girls while I was sick. Feel better!
Zink
Hey I used to love Golden Girls. Haven't watched it in many, many years though. Last thing I watched before this was Neon Genesis Evangelion. Now that one disappointed me big time. I'd heard it was great but it did nothing for me and the end was way to trippy. It's been awhile since I had to research wtf happened in a show because I totally didn't understand. Just finished Grancrest War so need to go find something else to watch.
Marvin
Duuuuuude, Eva is the best! Way better if you see it first as a teenager tho. Helps being young and dumb and full of, like, emotions. And stuff. And there is a lot to unpack, for sure. It's a heavy, beautifully flawed series that's definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

But sometimes you just gotta look at your time investment and go "nope, no more."
redambrosia
Just started watching Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist on Hulu. It’s pretty good. The first episode gave me all the feels and I was attacked by onion ninjas. Damn onion ninjas.
Jellyranger69
It may have been mentioned, but Letterkenny is literally one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. Really funny.
Marvin
Can confirm.

Read that it was by the person who wrote Record of Loss War. That was one of my introductions to Anime and I still like it. Grancrest not so much. It's something to watch but the writing and story isn't that great. But on the plus side the main character isn't a whiny little kid you want to strangle until he levels up. Basic plot is that lords have magic crests that grant them power and status. As you defeat other lords or demons that randomly pop up you gain crests/power which can be kept or given to vassals. The world is divided into 2 major factions which have been peaceful for awhile. Young kid wants to help his homeland so starts a journey to gain power and triggers a major increase in hostilities. Sir Cyr and I watched that one. It was generically amusing. Not great, not terrible. Decent general fantasy. I finally watched The Mandalorian. It was a generically good space western, set conspicuously in Southern California. I'm convinced that Baby Yoda was a calculated plot device called Fan Service, thus creating a Venn diagram in which Baby Yoda overlaps with Big Anime Boobs. Okay, Baby Yoda is more than that BUT.... he's a calling card for Star Wars nerds to go "come here! Shiny fun thing!". 4
Marvin
Season 2 of Altered Carbon drops tomorrow (late tonight?). Been looking forward to this. Guessing the story won't be as good (though a bit less dense would be just fine lol), and I'm not sure Mackie has the same force of personality Kinnaman had in the role, but I'm optimistic going in.
Corsair
We have been enjoying Wycliffe lately. Good plots and characters, not loaded with unnecessary profanity.
Zink
After complaining about Evangelion I found an anime that is almost exactly what I like. Ironblooded Orphans - Mobilesuit Gundam. Might not be for everyone but I'm enjoying it a lot. Poor slave kids that were surgically altered to use small mechs are tasked with escorting a young woman seeking independence for Mars to Earth for talks. Turns out almost everybody wants to use them as a sacrifice while they're just trying to get a better life. Ticks all my soft spots for honour, duty, brotherhood, life and death with practically none of the over the top psycho characters and totally wierd behavior in a lot of anime. Minimum of gratuitous upskirt and downblouse scenes too although it does amuse me how my teenagers get embarrassed watching cartoon women rub their boobs in the guys faces. 4
redambrosia
We’ve been watching this ridiculous show, The Masked Singer. It’s got a lot of good singers, Ken Jong is hilarious, and the costumes are great. Its biggest flaws are Nicole Whatsherface and Jenny McCarthy. They say the dumbest stuff (which isn’t at all a surprise from Jenny McCarthy).
