mwhowell2001
Now that I think about it. Very good point there Qwyk. Spell points are limited, best to save them for the heavy hitters. Inarah, I think I'm going to vary it a bit. I am wondering if maybe similar colors on shields and on a standard bearer might give it that "military uniform" feel as my dwarf army grows. Something minor that doesn't turn my army into just a bunch of the same model over and over. I'm going to heed Heisler's feedback that multiple models in similar poses will promote consistency by itself. Has anybody done anything particular to accomplish that effect? Mad Jack
Depending on your conversion skills, you can do a lot to an army by swapping out weapons (all the troops carrying the same type of sword) or having all of them with their shield on the same arm, etc., painting the same device (or similar ones) on all of their shields or making all their tabards or even just the trim on whatever cloth they're wearing the same color... You just need enough similarities to tie them together as a unit, and enough differences to separate the leaders/specialists from the grunts. if you have the freehand talent, paint a unit emblem somewhere on their armor. Matbar
Personally when doing armies or teams I like each mini to be a bit different, but all of the uniforms to be the same for the whole team, or for each position if that applies. My husband plays Bloodbowl, so for his Orc team I did the whole team with the same basic colors, but (for example) the blockers use one pattern, the throwers another, so on etc. I realize what you're doing is different, but he plays quite a few team based games and says even with numbers on the bases it helps to be able to use descriptions like "the skeleton with the axe." So having different fig combinations is not only less boring to paint, it serves a purpose for making game play flow better.
mwhowell2001
I have pretty fair conversion skills. Seems like the idea has worked well with you both so I'm going to give it a shot. I was picturing stuff in my head and just wasn't sure how it would pull together. Thanks for the idea Matbar about making different patterns. That has really gotten my creative juices flowing. Well I just saw the time and I really need to get this reading for my internship done (which starts next week). Thanks for all the wonderful feedback everybody. You have been a great help, I am going to place my order and get back to the books
rgtriplec
Heals are very useful for dwarf soldiers in certain situations. A bear rider staying up is as or more important than saving any sgt. A shieldmaiden with one track is as good as most captains with one track. It all depends on whats more important at the time. But, in any case healing is generally pretty helpful. I personally don't use it a lot with dwarves, because I like the other two Warlords better and Ivar is pricey and he is pretty much just a healer.
