The travels of Sir Forscale and friends Round 3 chatter/photo thread

Recommended Posts

What would my group feel about a group conversion project?  Everyone add or change something, etc.

Interesting idea... wish I had thought of it.

And yeah, i'm just going through the thread now. I've been avoiding it knowing I hadn't gotten my box out.

Finally a picture of what i took   i've been wanting to try painting pewter a bit more, as I'm mostly a Bones painter, so I took some interesting looking pieces to try out on

I forgot to share what I snagged out of the DSmiles box. And of course, this had to be framed and hung up. Weird lighting due to Halloween decorations.

Group paint! He's awesome!

Well, I have picked out some lovely things.  I'd like to thank whoever donated them (There wasn't an included journal so I don't know who added what).

post-8022-0-84705300-1442789052.jpg

The plastic sprue says "Malifaux Death Marshal".  It has an upright flaming chained coffin and I think a leapfrogging guy with a regular head and a flaming skull head.

The four old lead figures in the back came in a little box labeled "Random Dudes" and all seem to be from the '80s or very early '90s.  There is a very tall for the time ninja, a sort of bignosed moustached guy with curly boots and a cape, a standard guy in armor with a mace and no helm, and a skinny guy with a great face and a staff -- I think his base says both "TSR" and "Ral Partha", for whatever that's worth.

In front of them is a straightforward witch with cat, some sort of wonderful skeletal lizard person with a sword and missing its shield, the top half of a figher pilot (for airplane or tank models?), and an old Grenadier dwarf which also seems to be made of lead.

In front of those are a delightfully purple d6 and two ladies with spiky attire and weaponry, and a Reaper "Alien Overlord Boss" who looks like a very tall Guardian of the Universe from "Green Lantern".

Out of concern for lead rot, I immediately washed the older metal figures and primed them with a thin layer of white acrylic paint, whose alkalinity should provide some buffer against the acid-triggered rot.

Here's another, better shot of the minis after they were washed.  In real life you can really see the difference between the lead figures (top row and first in second row), whose surface is matte and grey, and the pewter ones, which look a lot more silvery and shiny.

Any help in identifying these figures would be deeply appreciated.

Anything marked with both "TSR" and "Ral Partha" is likely fairly valuable. Those are officially licensed AD&D figures from the late '80s-early '90s, and it's my understanding that TSR ordered the molds destroyed when they pulled the license. Thus, Iron Wind Metals is unlikely to be able to cast any more of that series like they can with the other molds they acquired from Ral Partha.

After you said that I went digging, and it looks like he's nice, but nothing scary valuable. According to the Lost Minis Wiki he's the male half of the set Ral Partha 11-003, Magic-Users with Crystal Ball and I found a clean copy of him offered on ebay for $4.

Seeing the picture told me that he has a bit of sprue between his staff and the crystal ball which will need cleaning off before I paint him.

Yup, I got that and his "sister." I have them both painted (poorly) somewhere, but I think one of their staves broke on the tip, so be careful.

Original plan was to get the Boot Box out on Saturday, but I spent most of it being sick and sleeping a lot to try and get better faster. Which seems to be helping quite a bit, so I should be able to get it out on Monday, or Tuesday at the latest. ::):

I had a Saturday like that recently—a 101°F Saturday. Sorry you had one.

I was hoping to get the box out today along with my summer figure exchanges. Something serious came up and I haven't seen my parents this disarrayed before, they are avoiding telling me so that doesn't *bleeping* help, but I know it's something to do with my grandmother. I'll have the boxes out Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning (going to take PTO from work). My brother is trying to find out what is going on as well. =(

*note, when I say today (Sunday), I meant that I was going to print online labels and drop them off in the blue boxes, but I ended up driving parents, aunts and uncles around to various places.*

The skeletal lizard man is a dogs of war mini from Games Workshop. The 1/2 dude above him is a tank driver from... I think the Leman Russ kit. The lady with the chain sword is a Sister of Battle quad leader I think. Also GW. Those are the only ones I recognize.

An old friend from college is finally getting married so in addition to their more traditional wedding gift my wife and I decided to make them something as well. While my wife opted for a nice cross stitch wall hanger, I went my usual route of miniatures. As luck would have it I even pulled the perfect miniature from the last round of the Box of Goodwill.

Since I first met him my friend has always been a fan of Fallout, way more than I ever got into it. As a fan he owns all the games, has some Fallout wall art throughout his house, and even owns a large bucket filled with bottle caps; like I said he's a fan. So as a bonus wedding present I decided to paint up Astro Girl as the Nuka Cola girl.

This being a present I even attempted some simple eyes, a step I usually ignore.

I think he'll get a kick out of it and who knows my handiwork may even get a spot on the mantelpiece right next to his bottle of Nuka Cola Quantum.

      Here we go again . . .

In the simplest terms, this is a basing version of the Box of Goodwill. Those of us who have a lot basing materials will be able to share our wealth with those new to basing. Others might have interesting bits and pieces that they use and want to add some to inspire others. Or you might have easy access to certain materials that others do not.

Due to the nature of some of the materials in the box, at this time the box will only be making the rounds in the US.

Please provide the following info in your replies to this thread:
      Where you live
If you want to be a box starter or can contribute to seeding a box

      What's Going In:
Any structural basing material: cork, plasticard, bark, branches, sand, etc Any decorative basing material: leaves, flock, static grass, tufts, etc Bits and Pieces: electronics, gears, beads, stones, etc Scenic elements Plinths Premade and stamped bases, try to not overwhelm the box with these No miniatures, that is what the regular BoGW is for
      Note:

If you are sending natural materials that you collected yourself, please take necessary steps to get rid on any unwanted nasties. Some methods mentioned in the interest thread were a quick dip in some bleach water and then rinse and dry off and/or baking.

Please make sure everything is properly packaged, sealed, and labeled.

      Basic Info:

Into a medium flat rate box will go a bunch of basing material. Then the box will be sent off to those in the circuit. As a one to one exchange of materials might be difficult for those newer to basing, this will work more off an honor system in that you add what you can but take what you need. As we all know in basing, a little can go a long way. So in the box will be some small baggies that will allow you to take what you need without having to take it all. For example, if there is a large bag of flock or gravel, you would be able to take a little instead of having to take the whole bag. Once you have gotten what you need and added what you can, you will pack it up and send it on.

      More Details:
The box starters will put together their box and start it on its way. We will PM the tracking info of the box to the first recipient and then each recipient after that will PM the tracking number to myself AND the person that they're shipping it to. Participants will post in the arrival/departure thread when they have received the package and again when they send it off to the next person. They can post pictures of what they took in the chatter thread but it is not mandatory. Participants are responsible for contacting the next person in line and getting their shipping information. The order of the circuit will be public knowledge, so feel free to exchange shipping info how/whenever you wish. If the next person does not provide their shipping information within a reasonable amount of time, they will be skipped. You will have 1 week from time of arrival to take a look and make your choices before sending it on its way. Shipping will be via a medium flat rate box. Tracking and insurance are included in the cost. In the event of it not arriving at it intended destination, the person that mailed the box will make the insurance claim and use the proceeds to purchase items to fill and ship a replacement box. Sign ups will end Midnight February 9th (Pacific Time).  Once I know who is participating, I will figure out the order, and put up the Arrival/Departure thread. The order will be in the first post of both it and the Chatter thread. We will aim to get the boxes sent out to the first person by February 17th. If something comes up and you need to drop out for whatever reason or your place in line needs to be adjusted, let me know as soon as possible so I can make the necessary adjustments.
I think that is it, if there is something I missed or you need more information ask in the Chatter thread or PM me.
