Maledrakh's Bones 2 Caryatid Columns...and whatever you do, don't blink!

Recommended Posts

As has been a theme this year, the minis I manage to paint will all count towards the resolutionary challenge. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread.

In the second Bones KS there were some models of statues. Living ones, that is.

These are officially known as 92872 and 92859, Caryatid Columns. A Caryatid, according to Wikipedia, "is a sculpted female figure serving as an architectural support taking the place of a column or a pillar supporting an entablature on her head". Play with miniatures! You get to learn new words every day.

And of course, any statue can be given life by some mad wizard or wrathful divinity to harass a party of adventurers trying to get past. Or they can be ancient alien time-eating horrors, camouflaged as nice graveyard angels when you are looking at them. Remember you are perfectly safe as long as you just don't blink!

The Dr.Who Weeping Angels, sorry *ahem*,  the Bones KS 2 92843 & 92844 Angels of Sorrow

I painted the lot of these with black undercoat, then drybrushing with a dark grayish green, a light sandy brown, and at last an offwhite with an ever-so- slight green tinge. Fast and excellent!

I find grey made by just black and white rapidly gets boring and less interesting. Using some colour really does enhance simple allover paint jobs like this.

Four impressive models, it's great when you can add to you annual total so easily, although it can never be that easy. The bases really do them justice as well.

The full moon casts a pale blue light across the rugged white landscape. Tall pine trees cling to the rocky ground, branches stirring, shedding their cold white burden as the wolves breathe past. The pack is on the move, and the land is trembling beneath their step. They move with purpose, something is not as it was before. There! An affront; a boat pulled ashore, a small group of fur-clad prey around a campfire, round shields and axes in sight. From the treeline the windwolves move, silent, swift, cold gusts of dark shadow, spirits of malice descending upon the men with claws of ice and fangs of doom.

Continuing with the random minis for now: Cavalry.

Bones Cavalry that is. Over the course of 4 delivered kickstarters of Bones models, Reaper has released a total of 9 mounted models. (11 if you count the flying saucer from the Bones 2 Chronoscope Expansion and the chopper bike mounted Sophie (the one and only Bones KS model delivered in metal!) in the first Bones kickstarter.)

Well, "mounted" is also a theme to use to get something painted, isn't it? And with 9 or 11 models to go for, it should be possible to get done in a timely manner.
Here are the first pair of them that I have painted up.
