I am really excited. I missed the last KS, and the three item cap keeps me from going nuts since three is a decent variety of pads. I'm thinking forest, homestead and dungeon personally.

If you want more than 3 make a 2nd KS account to back with.

I think they are preferring that people don't do this per their original email.

I like the hard limit. 3 is a lot of variety and money. I am actually more likely to back this way.

Ok, so they've had 2 Kickstarters already, is this stuff available retail yet? Their website is a hot mess.

No retail option at this point. Just this Kickstarter to get product at what seems like retail cost.

I'm surprised that the pads haven't shown up in the Mantic Games Shop. Seems like a natural fit given their collaboration on Basius 2.

PS: The first version of the pads was available through the Zinge Industries website. A few leftover ones are still there on clearance.

I'm not sure this is retail cost. The production level and material quality are much higher than the closest competitor, happy seppuku, and the surface area of each pad is a bit more than four times higher. Seppuku costs 12 usd a pad, three of these cost 45 usd each including shipping. That's four times the cost for >4 times the surface and a far more high end product. Not to malign hs, they make a great product too. I just think basius could charge significantly more than that at retail.

In terms of cost effectiveness, if you are basing an army with equivalent presculpted bases, those cost 2-5 dollars each. Sculpting from scratch is outside my skills, and I barely have time to paint as it is. I have about 50 trolls alone that need basing. Basius is way cheaper.

Thinking things over a bit and reading the Bakers' comments again, I think that they are not in a position to go to retail anywhere because of production issues or limitations on being able to produce and then maintain a sufficient inventory of pads in order to support retail sales at any decent quantity.

In terms of cost, I (along with two others) pledged for 11 pads. With shipping to the U.S., the cost per pad was $38. $45 per pad is an increase of about 20%, but it's not an exorbitantly large increase. The Bakers did put up a comment that resin and production costs have increased.

Just saw this when I was checking again to see if Basius had finally gone to retail. I had asked to be added to their list to be notified when they did, but didn't get emailed about the kickstarter and now looks like the blurb about being notified once they go retail is gone.

Really on the fence on this one. I've been waiting a long time for them to start selling. The mister thinks maybe the cost isn't worth it. I don't base armies, but do have a whole lotta Bones I/II/III that need to be based.

Do people who have basius already like it and find it useful? I'm not necessarily trying to see that it be cost effective, just that I'll get good use out of it. Also wouldn't mind hearing from more folks what 3 they'd suggest for a fantasy baser. Imperial and forest seem to have caught my eye as top 2, trying to see what might be the most useful third. Assuming I go in at all that is, am a little concerned like others they are skipping retail to do another guarantee-sale KS.

I find the pads to be very useful.  Then again, I hemmed and hawed about the first one, backed it, and was delighted enough with my original 4 that I backed for 7 (of my own) for Basius 2.

As for your third one, depends on what environments that you want to model.  For example, if you mostly want to do outside, then Mountain or Plaguelands might be a good addition.  If you like dungeon environments, then Dungeon or Sanctuary would be a good idea.  Dungeon also has some areas that can be used for wood flooring (on smaller bases).

I like Victoriana most of all.  The cobblestones can be cobblestones in a city or in a dungeon.  The flagstone paved areas can also be a dungeon or a modern city.  The "water" areas can be waves or they can be sand dunes.

I need to be careful or I'll talk myself into getting 3 more.  :;):

As far as sipping goes it all depends on how you package it. Containers on ships are relatively inexpensive if you can mostly fill one. I imagine for this DHL sold them a container and said fill it and we will deliver on the other end.

Any one else long for the days of slow shipping? I do remember being able to purchase things from Europe with shipping not much higher than to the west cost. You might wait a month or two, but if you weren't in a rush... my mother's wedding chest came that way. It took 4 months but only cost $10 to ship

As to the pads, I like the basius variety on the pad and the detail is really nice (though transfer can be tricky, the forest in particular gives me fits). I like that the Hs pads are flexible and can can be used on limited 3d texture. I don't know which I would choose if forced to

The pads themselves are fantastic.  I have Imperial, Mountain and Sanctuary.   Sanctuary is fantastic, great for your typical stone floor.  The backside has some ruins and drainage stuff, overgrown floor tiles, etc.  The carpet areas are nice as well.  Imperial is better than Mountain for outdoor stuff unless you have a need for large rocks.

Quality wise they are hard to beat.  Another cost to keep in mind though is that you're going to be burning through a LOT of greenstuff.  I recommend using Procreate putty instead anyways.  It's a bit cheaper and far less sticky, a lot easier to work with and you'll get better detail with less distortion from pulling it off the pad.  I'll put a photo up of some of the bases I just painted yesterday.  They'll look a little odd because I just put the first coat of sealer on them but you should get the idea.

So yeah, quality wise they are awesome.  Price wise, you gotta think about it.

Thanks Vutpakdi and Ronald.

Ronald - thanks for posting that picture, those look fantastic. Excellent paint job, I'd have a hard time believing an individual (amateur) cast those as well, they look a lot better than most example pictures I've seen and look like professional resin. I currently use milliput for my basing needs, not sure if that will work okay for these?

My understanding is that you can use Milliput, but it's trickier.  One of the other backers of Basis 2 posted this comment

"Milliput can be very tricky to work with. I've used it but you have to mix it, apply it to the bases, and let it cure for about 25-35 minutes before stamping them on the pad. Water can make the surface of Milliput turn to goo so only use a little, or use vaseline."
- Coralline Algae

With greenstuff or procreate, you slather the thing with water before pressing it in as a release agent.  Milliput it looks like vaseline is a better idea, then just wipe/rinse it off once it's fully cured.

And thanks, though the bases themselves do most of the work with painting.  Those are just simple basecoat/wash/drybrush with no more than 3 colors.  The lighting is funny because I took that right in front of my PC monitor, so the back ones have a yellow tinge that isn't there.  All the dirt ones are the color of the big guys on the right.  The water in the drainage is golden super heavy gel medium.
