Hey all!

Been working on and off on this guy, he won't make the August cut, but...

I recently got new brushes, and am learning to wet blend and layer so he is a transition figure...

The furs, hair and boots were worked on in my old paint, wash, high light style, now I guess that will end up forming the base coat for my new learning works in wet blending, layering, use of a wet palette and all these other new tips and tricks...

His skin is GW Tanned flesh, Layered up with GW Dwarf Flesh. His eyes were done with the 'Bette Davis' eyes tutorial from 'The Craft' section.

Just a couple pics for comments:

Thanks!

Thank you!

They are GW Codex Grey and Stormvermin fur.

I have been applying this tutorial to any types of fur that I paint, I find it very helpful!

Did more work on this guy last night as well:

Skin came up another Layer with GW Bronzed Flesh

Wood on the club and hammer done with a wash of SC75 Walnut, Then washes of Inktensity Chestnut and Wood.

Eyes got dotted with GW Snot Green, using a Raphael #1 Brush. (I  LOVE  that brush!) Fur on boots and skulls with GW Snakebite Leather.

Wolf(?)skin on back washes of Black and brown, then a dry brush with Codex grey and then Fortress Grey.

Nails on club done with a 50 / 50 mix of SC75 Black metal and Thrash Metal.

Hair got a Codex Grey drybrush, and his 'skirt' fur a drybrush of GW Desert Yellow. I think I am going to have to do another with khaki to make the high lights pop.

So, more work on the big guy.

Not a lot done, Dry brushed his 'skirt' fur with Vallejo Iraqi Sand, same for the boot top fur. Not sure I like the boot tops, they may get either heavily washed to darken them, or a completely new color.

The main work was on his boot leathers, using the SC75 Wood and Leather set. I followed the 'directions' that came with the set.

They got a new base coat of a mix of Black and Brown leather. (the 'Black' leather is a very dark PURPLE!), followed by high lighting by adding some Orange leather in 2 steps. Going to straight Orange leather, then mixing in some Iroko. That is where I left his boots for the moment. (Iroko looks very similar to GW Snakebite leather, but I need to do an actual comparison to see....

The only other thing he got was some SC75 Heavy Metal to high light the nails in the club. I think these may get re done with corroded metal et al from the copper set. Not that I think they look bad, it is just that they would more likely be old rusty discarded nails than bright shiny new ones!

Hey all!

Over the last 2 nights got busy with him.

Skulls and horns around his neck got GW Snakebite Leather and Bleached Bone.

The stone hammer head on his belt got VMC Luftwaffw Uniform WWII, a black wash, and a dry brush with GW Codex Grey. Going for a 'slate' color. I doubt the material would really be slate, but it is a good contrast, and I am tired of painting granite rocks....

The boot cuffs got a Burnt Umber ink wash, followed by a GW Khaki dry brush.

As I had the SC75 Speed Metal out for the Vrock, I put some on the nails in the club.

These may still get re done...

His hair also got the same ink wash of mixed GW Blue and Black inks that I did on the Vrocks feathers.

The hairless part of his skirt got a few coats of GW Devlin Mud wash as well...

I think he needs more work on his skin tones, there are some spots that seem like he has Jaundice...

Sorry for the poor pics, found my favorite camera for shooting mini pics, went to town on the ongoing projects with it, and can't download the pics yet because the camera doesn't have drivers compatable with my OS...

EDIT: Some pics from the real camera:

Just a bit of quality difference...

Little more work on him tonight after starting to clean the game room for the LONG Pathfinder Weekend!!!

Worked another couple of layers on his skin, I also tried to give him a touch of '5 O' Clock shadow', as His face seems to have stubble on the chin.

Worked the horns & skulls up from Last nights GW Bleached Bone with VMC Ivory and then Ivory and VMC White.

The wood on the club and Hammer haft got a wash with a 50 /50 mix of  SC75 Inktensity Wood and Chestnut.

Pics with phone. Good pics when I get home from work!

Close ups of face to show the stubble...:

His teeth got a coat of GW Bubonic Brown, then VMC Ivory, and his upper lip a thin line of thinned GW Scorched Brown

post-14271-0-09958300-1441340104_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-95067800-1441340109_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-11385300-1441340117_thumb.jpg

He still needs the bone pin on his left shoulder done, will be done like teeth or horns / skulls

The 'whole' fur on his back needs the animals 'face' and claws done, as well as the strings holding the Skulls and horns, plus the wrappings reinforcing where the hammer head meets shaft.

And I still will likely re do the nails in the club, they just look to 'new' for what they are being used for....

Comments welcome, especially on the stubble! I never tried this before, and I would like to know how to improve!

Work done here as well'

I did the bone pin for his cloak, the same way I did the horns and skulls, just needs the final Ivory / White mix.

The Skins teeth and nails the same.

The skins lips, eye sockets and nose were done with VMC German Grey.

The 'string' holding the horns, skulls and bone pin, as well as the reinforcing wraps on the hammer were done with SC75 Birch. This color is very close to a Bleached Bone / Ivory color, and was likely NOT the best choice, but there is so much yellow / brown on this guy already that I did not want to use GW Snakebite Leather, my usual 'raw hide' color.

We'll see what they look like after some washes / glazes...

The spikes in the club got redone with SC75 Decayed Metal and Old Copper. I think some dabs of a silver and some orange rust, with a touch of red ink will go on them next. Any thoughts?

His hair was also washed (He's an ogre, NOT that way you sillies!) with the Blue / Black ink mix again.

(Still blurry dagnabit!)

The skulls look a bit 'bright' to me, need to do something there as well...

But he may get done tonight after Pathfinder...

Comments welcome!

Sorry about the pics being a bit blurry, I am still struggling with the camera. It seems it is not meant for such small items.

Most of the miniatures are from a recent 2019 kickstarter by Bear's Head Miniatures, apart from the large Star Spawn that is from the game Cthulhu Wars by Petersen Games. One of the kickstarters for that game had an option for one each of the miniatures extra, and this one is from that set. I hacked off the moulded base it originally came with so I could have similar style bases for the whole family.

Garghuk got painted a few months ago, but I don't recall posting him.  He was still sitting out when I grabbed the camera earlier so I took a few shots of him as well.  He had started off as a "learn to use the airbrush" project, but given I didn't really know what I was doing he ended up getting mostly done by hand.

The chibi smallworld minis are all based on existing normal minis in the Reaper lines. I recognized five of them from the minis I have from earlier Bones kickstarters, but not Arnise the female barbarian elf that I painted the other day.
The reason being that the original was included in the Bones 4 core set. An older metal mini being redone into Bones material it seems.

So I painted her in a similar scheme.

The metal version is called Arnise, Elven Sergeant from the Warlord line, and represents the Sergeant of Almirithil's frenzied half-elven berserkers in the Warlord lore.
