Otherworld Miniatures

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever do business with these people? Reaper will always be my first love, but I can't pass up pig faced orcs! Or the idol from the cover of the old DM guild.

I have a few of their Undead/Living Impaired Folk & a pack of Shriekers when they were available from Architects of War. While I didn't notice a size difference myself, I have heard other say they are a little smaller than Heroic Fantasy minis like Reaper's. They are quality pieces, but a bit too pricey for moi other than when on sale.

I have their frost giant and some unicorns, which I bought from FRP. They are really nice quality and I love the personality of the sculpts.

I think they had some difficulty with a Kickstarter, didn't they?

I love their stuff. I have a lot of it, actually. I have a small army of pig-faced orcs and a good number of skeletons, armored and not. A giant, the Treant, a bunch of others.

The scale is slightly off from Reaper in some (not all - the skellies are just fine) cases, but not so bad it will hurt you. I would say that where it might cause somebody pause is with the orcs; that is, if your only experience with orc minis is from GW's gorillas or Reaper's Black Orcs, then the old fashioned pig guys might not impress you, as they are only man sized.

These people did... www.indiegogo.com/projects/otherworld-miniatures-dungeon-adventurers#/comments

You sure you want to do business with those who blatantly use other's art to design their miniatures?

Thanks scorpio616! I had no idea about any of that. I like the sculpts just haven't bought many except for second hand as they are really pricey. That info will definitely make me rethink about any further purchases.

I got some of their Undead ( painted they are in Show Off, Swamp themed Undead) and a Djinn.

They are really good quality but a bit less "bulky" then most other brands.

They fit in though.

And yes they are a bit pricey.

I try Ebay or conventions.

I bought mine on a sale,

I bought a few of them from Noble Knight. Interesting sculpts. There are a few more I would like to get, but nothing super urgent.

I breezed through the comments. Whats the deal on using other's artwork?? I didn't see it...

They base all of their images on Monster Manual 1 with a lot of their miniatures looking exactly like the artwork.

I don't get the problem never heard the artwork complaint before.

The indigogo campaign ended up a complete mess, but I think they make some of the best D&D miniatures, they avoid IP monsters, for example you'll never see an Umberhulk from them.

Right, it was Indiegogo, not Kickstarter. The project left me cold because I really want female figures and they weren't even having any until some late point / high pledge or something like that. I seem to recall even minions and luggage carts came sooner. Kind of dodging a bullet there, because it sounds like fulfilment has been a right mess.

Thanks for the heads up.

I have to tell you, I play 1st and 2nd ed, the MM is one of my most commonly used books for gaming, and I simply don't see it, with the one GLARING exception being the Demon Idol they have available (PHB cover.)

I guess I have always just lived in this world where I figured anything like that would have agreements ahead of time, and proper liscencing in order to even produce stuff like that.

I don't really think about "the dark side" where artists aren't getting paid for their stuff, but I know that WotC has lawyers up the yin yang in order to protect their IP.

I have quite a few Otherworld minis, some bought direct, some from Noble Knight. I love them and always look to them first for D&D monsters. FREX, I use their kobolds in preference to any others. My collection still has a lot of Reapers (all my stirges FREX are reapers), but I'm adding Otherworld as much as I can!

Damon.
