I'd say you are in the right place! Ask all you want, Ub3r_N3rd will likely answer your question before you finish typing it! Or someone else will...

Folks around here love to help, Lord knows, I ask a lot of questions!

So don't be bashfull!

I like what you did with the eyes. The little shadow under them helps emphasize their shape and makes him look like he's just a little battle weary.

How much of a beginner did you say you were? Because this is solid work.

Thank you all very much!

I had real trouble with the fire on the sword, kept looking too yellow, or too uniform, sorry, but what is OSL?

As I mentioned in my post, before this I have painted maybe 5 or 6 of a friends space marines when I was in my early teens. Other than that, I own a few assorted minis for d&d, but never painted them, this is the first of my own I've painted.

OSL = Object Source Lighting = What you were talking about with the glow from the sword. Or the glow from the lantern in your avatar, for that matter.

I can't say I've worked up the courage to try it myself.

Surely you've got some other artistic background, though? Because Pingo's right, that's really nice work, especially so for someone who hasn't touched a brush in over a decade.

Welcome to the forum!  You've done better that most of us for a first post.  If you are practicing for the KS Bones I would recommend practicing on Bones as well.  Not only are they cheaper than metal it will let you get used to how they handle.

Very, very nice! I may have to use this for inspiration since I just got the Bones version of Almaran on Friday.

While I assume that my Bones Almaran suffered from first production run issues that have since been resolved, it's worth checking his face for a miscast.  Mine was bad enough I just turned it into a scar.  Let's see, pics from old posts...
