77270: Bones II Spikeshell Warriors, by Pingo

These are two turtle warriors from the Bones II Kickstarter.  I glued them to fender washers for weight and balance before painting them.

 

The color palette is more muddy and earthy than normal for me.  I wanted to make them look like alligator snapping turtles, the terror of my youth.  One of them has a greener shell because that's a natural variation.  The turtle shell shield is painted like an Eastern Box Turtle, an inoffensive little North American forest-dwelling turtle.

Those turned out great! Making them snappers was a super idea.

He does indeed look like a snapping turtle, and the idea he made a poor, harmless little box turtle into a shield fits perfectly.

We have quite a crew of snapping turtle over in Pecan Creek; I sometimes imagine how they poor creatures will mutate with all the gasoline et al the boaters/fisherman deposit. These would be a FINE example of Mommy Nature's REVENGE! Be that as it may, the Shelled Nasties turned out WONDERFULLY...GREAT brushwork & OUTSTANDING bases. VERY WELL DONE!
