I read that yesterday. Low ceilings, high lintels, and a curving access are a typical combination used for defense of structures. I'm a bit surprised that none of the archeologists suggested the possibility of some sort of Bronze Age priests' holes, if only to explain why they weren't.

Could those trenches have been cisterns? Very prosaic explanation. Would explain lack of ingots, remains, or much other artifacts. Also, explains lack of light. Also, explains impractical interior dimensions for people to use routinely. Might explain odd extensions: community grows, cistern trench is extended, or a branch is added.

 

IDK wasn't alive then.

...the last one I find especially inspiring...of course, I am a bit strange.

That last one looks like an abandoned amusement park to me.

 

I think you're almost right. If I recall correctly at least one of those places was a semi-permanent Renaissance Faire site that fell on hard times and was abandoned a couple decades ago.
