Duergar Cleric, Sergeant, and 2 Grunts (02988, 02989)

Recommended Posts

Finally got to do some work on the Duergar that went with the clockwork Golem.

Not a whole bunch done, 3 layers on their skin, plus their eyes. They are all Bald As Eggs! so doing their heads is turning into an experience...

I am using Scale 75 Brown Gray, Rainy Gray, and Thar Brown as my colors, all from the Black & White set.

The Female cleric seems to have plucked her eyebrows as well...

The Sergeant has both eyebrows and a braided beard

The 2 grunts also have eyebrows and beards...

The old AD&D books say Duergar have light to medium grey skin, and medium to dark hair, so after some more glazes on their heads to smooth things out a bit more, the hair will get done!

Comments and Ideas welcome

I think I am going to echo the Golem, at least on the cleric and sgts head pieces....

The 'pebbley' areas look like some sort of lizard skin, and the Sgt has three horns sticking out from his back... still wondering what color to do, description says they prfer drab clothing and armor to blend in to their surroundings...

I don't want to do black / grey, but that might be the most 'real'color.

I'll be using Scale 75 paint, Got any suggestions Xherman?

Ok, got some work done on these guys over the past couple of days, gotta push to get them done for the RPChallenge by Wednesday...

The Lady cleric got Necro Gold on her head piece and the trim of her shoulder pads and breastplate.

The scale armor she is wearing is the Scale 75 Red from Sunset Purple to Aldebaran Red. The Deep Red and Blood Red had some Garnet Alchemy mixed in, The Antares Red and Aldebaran Red had some Ruby Alchemy mixed in.

The breast plate, shoulder pads and groin plates(?) were done in Black Metal.

The boots, gloves and 'Skirt' plates are all Decayed Metal.

The boots and gloves will go up the scale in the 'Copper' colors like the Golem's legs and arms. The skirt will go up through the 'Brass' colors

The metals follow the Cleric's pattern, but will not go as far up the chain of 'bright-ness' if that makes sense. The Sgt will be a little higher than the troops, but not as high as the cleric.

Their beards are all done with Abyssal Blue, as are their eyebrows.

Their 'scalley' shirts are done with a base of Caspian Blue, with the individual scales picked out with Bering Blue, then Arctic Blue mixed with Bearing Blue.

Their chainmail pieces are also Decayed metal, as are the plates on the SGT's 'kilt'. These will go up the 'Brass' group of colors.

Breast plates, shoulder pads,  and 'groin' plates in Black Metal

The Sergeant also had his head piece done in Necro Gold.

There is a hierarchy very evident if you look at their armor, with the higher ranks having more metal, so I also plan on making it 'better' metal by use of color. The kilts on the 2 grunts will likely be some type of leather.

Not sure what to do about the shields still, I am thinking of painting them to look like stone, with dark metal edges It would likely (hopefully!) look good, and tie in with the Duergar background about their love of blending in... Anyone have any ideas / suggestions for me?

Overall, I am liking the way these guys are turning out. The skin could be a little darker, kind of wish I had started 1 color further down the scale for the base coat...

I have never painted a Vampire (in 30+ years of painting minis!!!!) but I think their skin tone would be appropriate for Vampire skin, maybe going 1 or 2 steps up the color chain....

As Always, Comments, Thoughts, Ideas, and pointing out what I did wrong are Welcome!

Ub3r needs to get the Sgt and the guy with the axe, they are his kind of people as they both have what must be coffee mugs on their belts! The one guy even has an axe! I guess they might have to much armor though....

More work on these, Going to really have to push to get done... 24 hours left....

Lady cleric had all her metals worked on, plus brown for leathers.

Can anyone tell me what the emblem(?) on her right shoulder is supposed to be????? It looks almost like a bottle with a string tied to the neck....
