03125: Bailey Silverbell - Then & Now

I painted my first "Bailey Silverbell" Reaper miniature in 2012. I painted another version in between projects over the last few months and gave her a Little Red Riding Hood theme. I loved this Reaper mini back then and I still love it now-- only this time I was able to try my hand at a few more techniques I've learned, including some NMM.   If you haven't painted a "then & now" miniature, I hope you try it sometime. It's truly rewarding to see your improvement over the years!

They are both LOVELY creations, but the improvement in technique, if subtle in some aspects & pronounced in others, is stunning. Your progress in such a short time is REMARKABLE. VERY WELL DONE!

The newer version looks more "alive".

"Old" Silverbell was already really good, but "New" Silverbell is incredible!

 

Wish I saw that sort of improvement in my own painting skills.

Highly recommend doing then and now! I'm definitely still learning to paint, but I've tried to paint the Anhurian Swordsman from LTPK1 each year since I've started. I'm about due for this year's edition!

That is a great post.  I can see so much improvement in the "new" version, even though the "old" one wasn't bad.  I might have to do this myself at some point.

Both are really well don, but yeah the new version is truly impressive in the improvement in techniques colours - beautifully done skin! I might have to try a do over on an earlier piece ...

Did you look at the first piece while you were doing the updated second piece? Or consciously just paint her from scratch, not looking at the first?
