O Scale Farm Animals

These are some plastic animals by Model Power intended for O scale railroads ("Model Power" No. 6171, "36 Unpainted Animals, O-027 Scale").  They are a little large and a little crudely modeled, but until Reaper came out with its new animal companions they were what I had.

 

These cows are painted up as Ancient White Parks, a heritage breed from Britain that dates to the thirteenth century.

 

 

The goat is another heritage breed, but I don't remember which.  The sheep is a sheep.

 

 

Here they are for scale with a not-quite-finished Reaper 60079: Lyrie Akenja.  As you can see, O scale is a little bit large for 28mm.

The cattle are fine.  The sheep may be "good enough" because of the short legs.  The goat is a little jarring.  There were cattle about his size in Mesopotamia when I was there, but the proportions were different.

Let's consider it a riding goat then. I have a little cart it's the perfect size to pull.

 

Also, that's the biggest Holstein I've ever seen (I think Holsteins are pretty but overused).

The Cows are useful for this scale. There are some large breeds out there... and it IS fantasy.. so why not.

 

The Sheep and Goat are a bit to large, but could be riding breeds.

 

Nevertheless, nice find.

Actually, the goat is about right (probably not much bigger than what I did).  Goats in the ancient world were considerably larger than goats of today.  We've been shrinking them for many, many years.  They started out like this:

The goat was the only one I thought was a bit large, but as other people said, maybe he's a special riding breed. Or a war-ram, haha!

I'm happy to see this actually, as I've been running an idea for a diorama around in my useless head for a few hours now.   The idea involves some farmyard animals possibly, depending on what way I go with it.

The cows look fine and the dire goat is pretty cool.

Other than perhaps the goat, they don't seem too terribly out of scale at all. Nice job on them, and kudos for using a color scheme for the cows that I had not known about.
