Wizard Lee
So, I've recently returned to reading comics this year. A friend and fellow gamer has been pushing me to pick up Heroclix. I played Mage Knight and Mechwarrior back in the day, so I'm familiar with the Clix system. I even sat through a few demos the other day. I'm a little torn, so I'm turning to the friendly folks here for a little advice. So... Pros - Fast playing Large variety of figures Large local community of players, with local support Getting to play with your favorite superheroes... Cons- Costly, especially from a collectors standpoint Figures are poorly cast and painted Blind draws for new sets A majority of the player base (at least here) I find vastly annoying... frogimus
I may be wrong, but the way you phrased the "cons" seems like you won't enjoy it.
Chris Palmer
I tend to agree with frogimus on this; it sounds like you may have already made your decision and are looking for reasons to change your mind. That said, since you've played Mage Knight and Mechwarrior you already know whether you'll enjoy the game or not since clix game are almost all the same with differnt trappings.
Dr.Bedlam
I'm done with blind packs. And if I'm not enjoying the people, I'm not enjoying the game.

Unit04
I played this for a while. At first I enjoyed it because I played with heroes I liked and the other players were generally good people. However I found that as I began to play more competitively, my enjoyment of the game dropped. It was sort of a gradual feeling but I definitely burned out on it. I recommend that you only play competitively if that is something you do. If you are picking it up as a light hobby, just play with your friend(s).

And I'm in a community where no one really plays any of the games I'm into. It's pretty much all WW2, with a smattering of Heroclix, Warhammer, and WarmaHordes for flavor. But, I am, at heart, a gamer. And sometimes, in the past, I have made some stupid purchasing decisions in the name of "At least I'll have people to play with."
scorpio616
I find many Heroclix great for converting and a few make usable fantasy minis ready for the tabletop with a new base. Generally I find places online to buy the commons cheap. Edited October 14, 2015 by scorpio616
tiniest rhombus
We played for years. Started at the beginning in fact. We played within our circle of friends and had a great time. After awhile, we ended up selling off most of our high dollar clix and stopped playing. Every now and again the husband wants to play a game. I've lost interest completely. Its a fun game, I just got sick of it. Mostly because they kept changing the rules, it got too expensive. Have you looked into board game groups in your area, via Meetup? That might get you into contact with gamers that are not part of the traditional war games scene and that might be willing to try/get into the games you dig.
Dai-Mongar
Heroclix are great for getting some cheap superhero figures on eBay. I never played the game myself, but I am a big fan of SuperSystem as a supers mini game. Real sandbox character creation and a simple rules set.
Mad Jack
Never played the game... I do tend to haunt the $1 bins at the cons, though, looking for figs with interesting bits to steal... Particularly the translucent plastic.
Werkrobotwerk
I like the game play, but after a while the power creep, cost, and the blind pack just killed it for me.
Nocturne
I played for a while early on. I found it was one of those you really needed to agree on a basic concept for the game beforehand or both players have a wide range of figures to really avoid any major imbalance. Playing to the same points value is meaningless when you end up with a few thugs and intergang members vs Darkseid. Like a lot of people have said, the blind bag aspect was the main turnoff for me. wargamer
the blind purchases can be avoided by simply not buying them. if you want to win occasionally, you will have to get at least few of the better pieces as singles. to be truly competitive, you will need to follow the game closely and be prepared to buy whatever you need to stay there. in a similar fashion, I've heard that many magic players skip blind packs and only buy the few cards to stay competitive.
