Looking great so far, I'd definitely go with a darker wash for the flesh, just to give it a bit more definition.

The darker wash might work indeed, but keep it reserved for the deepest recesses.

I love where this is going.

**** Cheering Knarthex on as he paints    AARRROOOO***

Thanks folks!

Yeah, Think I will darken some of the base coat, thin it waaaay down, and put it in the deep recesses....

Then of course, I still need to go up....

So I added a little GW Dark Flesh to the Tanned flesh, thinned it down, and put it in the depths...

Then added a couple drops of VMC Ivory to the other skin tone, and started going up...

Gave his hair and beard a wash with a mix of Scale 75 Inktensity Blue & Black,

and touched the 1 tusk he has with VMC Ivory, as it was throwing my 'eye' off as I did the flesh high lights.

I kept wanting to file it off as a mold line...

Pathfinder Game last night, YEAH!

Painting done, none....

(All paints Scale 75)

So tonight I worked on his hair, starting to bring up the color with the Eclipse Grey.

I also decided to start blocking in some other areas, such as his shirt with Orange Leather. His 'armor' with Field Grey and Eclipse Grey as it looks to me like some kind of lizard skin, with the smaller scales around his hips / waist, on the left bracer where the bird will be, and the larger scales on the 'Tabard' dangly thing. His boots, right bracer, and quiver were done with a mix of Black and Brown Leathers.

The shirt is close to his skin color now, but it will lighten up toward a 'buckskin' color as I work on him.

I also worked on his bird, with some hints of Orange Leather, and some Black 'Magic Wash'. I am also adding one of the pics I am using for a reference. Some of the pics are a little washed out...

Last nights painting....

(Took pics, saw 1230 am, went to bed...)

So more work on these two boon companions, more on the bird than the Ranger...

Mainly adding extra coats to solidify the color, But I also started on his pants with Scale 75 Iroku

post-14271-0-51790300-1448413805_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-47055100-1448413806_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-50459500-1448413828_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-47202100-1448413829_thumb.jpg post-14271-0-44751000-1448413830_thumb.jpg

The Bird got some carefully applied black and brown washes, some careful wet brushing on the feathers with Scale 75 Sahara Yellow, as well as his feet and beak.

Then some nerve wracking work with thinned Scale 75 White Sands.

(Sorry for so many pics....)

I like the way the bird is coming....

It isn't an exact match for my reference pic, but I don't think my brush control is up to that quite yet...

Comments welcome!

So, day one of the Thanksgiving Binge Paint ends with some work on Kanaag and Bird...

Worked on his 'Armor' and Left Bracer, His Shirt and Pants, Boots and quiver, as well as the right Bracer. I was using my Raphael 0 for most of this, until I found myself hitting to many other parts of the figure with the 'belly' of the brush, then I switched to my DaVinci Maestro 0.... It has a very small belly, and is shorter haired as well...

I also did a few touch ups on the bird, fixed his eyes, and a little bit of Devlin mud glaze on parts of the White Sands, as well as high lighting his beak and talons. I also painted the bit of metal that I am afraid to file of under his talons with the Bracer base coat. This will need to be touched up and blended in at the end of the job.

I will most likely try liquid Green Stuff to minimize the transition.... at least I think so... And I may get brave with a needle file after I see how much of a 'lump' there is.

So far so good!

I am wondering what color to paint some of his gear, especially his bow, any thoughts?

Also the fur trim that he has all over the place, (lining his boots, armor, suspenders) what kind of animal should it come from?

Wolf, maybe? (NOT technicolor Xherman...)

So comments would be most welcome!

Thanks for looking in between eating, napping, football, etc!

How about tiger or leopard?

Snow leopard maybe?

That way you can paint on some nice spots or stripes.

( Nobody kills Technicoloured Wolves for fur, we are far too adorable for that)

This is coming along great!

High lighted important part of that sentence....

There are other reasons...
