How about tiger or leopard?

Snow leopard maybe?

That way you can paint on some nice spots or stripes.

( Nobody kills Technicoloured Wolves for fur, we are far too adorable for that)

This is coming along great!

High lighted important part of that sentence....

There are other reasons...

Snifff snrf.. I couldn't think of any...

Who's talking about killing? Shaving is a perfectly viable option.

Trying very hard to push my high lights that 'one step beyond' the lace that I would normally stop...

It isn't easy...

Could really use some help on color selection for some of the stuff that I haven't started yet....

His bow especially...

Thanks for looking!

I feel the pain for color selection.  I never have a clue when I start.  My methods are as follows:

1) Find a photo reference and use those colors as best I can.

Lacking that

2) Pick 1 color I want to stand out.  Use various shades of that color with some complementary colors mixed in to make small details stand out.  I'm a simpleton like that.

Well I did just that, and what do you know, I hit pay dirt!

A 10 year old post of the concept art, and a link to the artists site with sketches saying what some of the stuff hanging off him is!

Will be a great help I think with color selection!

And it is always nice to know what those bits and bobs hanging off a mini are supposed to be!

There was a thread about that a few months ago, do you like to know what everything on a mini is supposed to be, or not....

That bird has turned out even better than I imagined, it fits him perfectly. What colours are you choosing for the pebbled hide?

Thanks!

I am very surprised myself at how well the bird came out!

The pebbled hide I am envisioning as some kind of Lizard skin, so I used Scale 75 Field Grey as my base color, darkened with a little Scale 75 Eclipse Grey, I washed it with Black "Magic Wash", and started going up with the base color, adding Scale 75 White Sands to lighten.

Field Grey was the color of Wermacht uniforms, so is available from other companies as well. I know that there is a Vallejo version, as I have used it.

It is a sort of Grey color with a hint of Green when seen straight from the bottle.
