Matthias the Twisted (02867)

Recommended Posts

--->Since I didn't have enough stuff going on<---

And Halloween is right around the corner, I needed to paint something in that theme...

Since in 30+ years of painting minis, I have never painted a Vampire, I decided it was time when I found these 2 guys in the pile of blister packs...

People commented that the Duergar I painted a while back had nice creepy looking flesh tones, and I agree. So I am going to take these 2 one step further up the layering chain of colors that I used there. Then we will see if I start adding White to the mix.... Maybe the Reaper Spectral White, with that hint of Blue in it?

Eyes were done with GW Scorched Brown, then Reaper Spectral White.

Matthias I started with Scale 75 Brown Grey, then Rainy Grey:

Sorry about the blurry pics, to late now to re take them though! Camera focusing on wrong parts, and operator not checking the pics...

Then a layer of Thar Brown

Next will be Thar Brown with Mojave White. Then lots of glazes of that mix to smooth things out.

Comments, Thoughts, Ideas all welcome!

Well, as his eyes and cheek bones got very very very messed up, he went for a bath in Simple Green....

Will likely start a new solo wip, then delete all references to him here.....

Ivan's stuff deleted....

Since I was there already with the skin and eyes, started in on Matthias again!

Decayed Metal for his armor, Brown Leather and Walnut 50% for the inner robe, as I was using that on tacky....

So it has been over a month since he got some attention, but he has to share with some other projects. At least until he takes over, or one of them does...

Nothing much, just another coat of Decayed metal on his armor, but also a pic that has been adjusted to fix my bad photography skills...

Also a motivational thing, if I put some paint on him every night, he will get finished!

A little bit of color tonight, started on his cloak?, cape? wrap? with Ardennes Green. I plan on a Field Grey (Feldgrau) color overall for that part...

and just for the heck of it, I 'corrected' his skin tone with photoshop:

The skin tones actually look more like the figure in hand,

He is looking a little happier now that he is getting some attention....

I am going to kill Buglips for infecting my 20 minis with voices.....

Nolzur's do make a few great monster minis, even though most -if not all- of their humanoid minis are too small, weedy and have too shallow detailing for my liking. Here is one:

      Yep, a dead head.

      50mm base.
The main colour is Citadel Contrast Plaguebearer flesh, the rest is regular paint.

This mini was finished September 12th 2020.

I have no idea who sculpted this, as WizKids do not -as far as I know- publish this info.
      PVC,

Not super sure where to post this but this made the most sense to me. I found some fantastic miniature pumpkins at my local Joann Fabrics.

Hopefully you can find them elsewhere if you don't have a Joann's.
They come in $10 bags that are pretty big. I don't see myself ever needing to buy more.

They say "fall drieds" which makes me think they're some kind of organic. But they have the consistency of some kind of acorn or pinecone. So pretty solid. I don't think they'd deteriorate but if you're worried I'm sure a sealant of some kind would do the trick.

They come in a mix of sizes but they all look pretty good at 28mm scale. The cutting mat has half-inch squares.
Most of the pumpkins are of the artistically exaggerated size compared to a mini, and the smaller ones tend to be darker and a bit more mishapen. The coloration in them is pretty decent. I think they could use a layer of highlights but if you're in a hurry or making a huge pumpkin patch, then they look just fine.

Anyways, I hope this is useful for someone!

I've got more dead things for you today.  @Igormortis isn't the only one looking for some dirty dead!  Here's my little collection of swamp zombies.

The crowning jewel of this set is of course the Dreadmere Wight from Bone 4 Dreadmere.

He's got plenty of character packed into such a simple model.  I love him.

Along side him we have a repainted Zombie from D&D Giants of Legend prepaints (#40).

I've had this guy for ages, way before i learned to play D&D or ever picked up a mini brush.  His paintjob was pretty bland and I definitely think I (un)livened him up.  Would make a great shaman-type mini.

And filling out the horde we have the Zombies from the Castle Ravenloft board game.  Again.  Rather bland sculpts, but I like them a lot more now.  Their weird posture was the inspiration for the swamp theme as I imagined them pulling themselves up out of the muck.

All together, they're a fun thematic set and add for some variety to my dusty Graveyard Zombies.

Which one do you like best?

Crawling back from the dead here with this fun little handful of zombies!  Added some gravestones to a few of them using popsicle sticks.  Just good ole' classic grave crawling zombies.  Went for a dusty color palette.

Which one do you think turned out best?

Unknown female vampire figure I picked up in a boxed game set.  Can't remember the exact name or manufacturer.  Box art showed them in purple, I wanted to explore other colors.  I see her as the kind of vampire that likes to play with her food and enjoys a bit of lively sport. I have 2 of her sisters to do in other colors.

The photo is a bit washed out from the flash.  Her skin is a pale grey, different than her white gloves.  Casting on the face is strange, she has an odd shaped mouth, and no nose so I painted one on.
