Chris's Frostgrave & Ghost Archipelago Terrain Efforts

Recommended Posts

Today’s progress. I glued some fake fern fronds and sphagnum moss to the nests in an attempt to make them look a little less bird nest-y.

When dry, I base coated the bases with some brown paint.

I got a lot done the past two days.  First I drybrushed the mud on the nest bases.  I then flocked them and added some vegetation.  It was actually clear with low humidity today, so I gave them a final coat of Dullcote spray and am declaring them done.

Since it was low humidity, I was also finally able to prime the temple.  With paint on it, I realized there are a couple problems I need to correct on the statue; first there are noticeable gaps between her thigh joints and where they connect to her lower body which I need to fill, and secondly I noticed the hinges on her elbows are very obvious now and need to be covered over.

Looks good man.

I should really start posting stuff again...

Is everyone just using the forum to host pics now?

Thanks!   And yes, you should post your stuff again; you did great work.

Yes, I just post my photos here directly from my photo files.

Funny how photos bring out things the eye will miss and the eye will see things that never show in a photo ..

So true!

Today I did the dry-brushing on the structure.  Dark, medium, and light gray; followed by a last white highlight application.  Next up is the wooden doors, metal chains, and then verdigris bronze on the statue, decorations, and shell crenelations.

Finished the Sorceress of the Sea statue for the top of the temple today.  I have the temple base mostly done, just need to do some weathering and highlighting.

Starting to debate whether I want to add some vegetation to the whole thing, to fit in with the ancient overgrown lost temple motif,  or keep it more pristine.  Assuming it is on a coast of some island, looking out over the sea, just how much growth would there be...

i would go for a mix of the two. Not pristine, but not covered in greenery, either.  Kept mostly bare, it can be used in a lot more locations, including the deepest jungle--it's magical and keeps itself mostly clean and clear, or else there is someone nearby who is taking care if it.

That's what I meant as well.

A few vines and some flock, not too much.

I finally finished the painting on the Temple of the Sea Sorceress over the weekend!   I'm really happy with how she turned out.

I always pictured in my mind, the temple standing above a cliff face with the giant statue looking out over the waves.  There's a door in the back for access, and another on the front which, drawbridge style, opens out over the sea providing a platform for the acolytes to stand on and do their magic.
I'm so pleased with how this turned,  I'm reconsidering adding some vines or such to the walls or not, as I would hate to mess it up some way.   Hmmm...
