I was rummaging around in the discussion's group when I came across a posting by one of the creators of my language course. He was explaining how some things work, and how some things DON'T work. Amazing to read. A lot of the things that we encounter along the way of the language course is driven by Algarithms. He mentioned that sometimes folks take things personally, when its just computer driven. He said also that "Some of the sentences just sound horrible in English".. he said "Sorry its the English, not the language.. accept it, move on. (an example from my experience: He had had a very bad night)... I would never use "had had" in a sentence). In Norwegian that is an okay thing to do.. move on. Was really enlightening. I recommend taking a look at the discussion area when you get a chance. Now I find it, when I'm almost done..ROFL. The problem I see with it is for languages that mutate the word in some way based on grammatical context. For me I think it would confuse me more than help me. Your mileage may vary of course. I've noticed before on Google Translate that it occasionally translates a phrase into it's equivalent expression in english (or vice-versa), and not just the literal translation. Upon first viewing, there's no indication on how much of a literal of figurative translation it is, so that Language Immersion may have the same problem. ROFL.. May I recommend that you write the CORRECT sentence down, then when you get it again, you just copy the correct answer into the line. When I get a two line (and I have small handwriting) sentence I don't even bother answering it, I just write down the correct answer after hitting SKIP. The sentence will come back again because you didn't answer it, then type the correct answer. You will see what they are driving at, and get it correct at the same time. Silvervane Posted February 11, 2016 Share Posted February 11, 2016 I am now at level 11 with a 48% fluency. I feel good and bad about my progress. Good because the earlier parts are requiring very little thought to translate. My present tense conjugation, while it takes some thought, it is not trying to remember how to do it, just recognition time. Typos are still one of my biggest errors in review. New words seem to take longer now for some reason. I kinda hoped it would be the other way around. . Jeff; You mentioned a few pages back that you "shot back an answer in Italian as a reflex". Do you have anyone you can speak and practice your Italian with ? After 100 days you should have a nice selection of words (family, friends, animals,verbs) to use. See if you can find someone to converse with, that might help your confidence in what you know. I suspect you "Know" more than you think you do. Also, do you read the Italian Newspaper every day. They are on line. I read three Norwegian papers before I start my daily lesson, it gets me warmed up. Afterwords I go to the Norwegian Radio Channel, and listen to some of their broadcasts. After I started working on the program, I learned that said Italians prefer that their employees don't know Italian (so they can talk about restructuring/layoffs without finding a soundproof conference room). I'm hesitant to put it out there. OHHHHHHHHHHHH! That's different. Check amongst your friends and find out if any off them have a nearby "Nonna". A grandma that you can go and visit for an hour at a time, and have tea with, keep company by talking in Italian too. The old lady will go bananas having someone to talk to, and will teach you Italian faster than any course. My neighbor in San Diego was such a lady, she started taking in latch key kids to watch over until parents came home. In NO TIME the kids were speaking Italian ! LOL. You folks are doing really really Well. I hope it is getting easier, and that you are taking advantage of all the media to assist you! I wish there were some Norwegian speakers around me, but alas, there are not. I will be skyp-ing with my cousins soon. Emails are good, but I always make typo's since I'm not used to the keyboard.
