ROFL.. You guys are a LOT OF HELP !

The thought of writing an Auto-Biography scares the heck out of me.

I was raised in an Orphanage, and if anyone told me "You Can't Do That".. guess what I did ?

ROFL.

I set out to conquer and prove everyone wrong about me.

So.. I do like the idea of writing it and translating it into another language.

Jeg var falt på hodet som barn. (I was dropped on my head as a child)....ROFL.
Thanks for your confidence.. and I'll be here to cheer you on !

Ya Know, I THOUGHT it would be you to challenge me on this one.

ROFL.

I told my children.. Jeg vil gjøre det !

II will do it.

Several relatives are already DEMANDING  a copy..

I said "let me write it, then decide.

Remember what Samuel Johnson said: "No man but a blockhead ever wrote but for money."

Since I'm sure you're not a blockhead, make sure you charge them.

Congrats Talae; Congrats Doug !

Just one day at a time.  Do as much as you can do.

I have been getting nagged by Duolingo.. "You are on a HOT STREAK 274 days.. keep up the good work..level up !

I honestly pay NO attention to leveling up.  I am level thirteen, but I read five newspapers per day.

I finally wrote back and said.. "Uhh.. thanks, but I didn't take this course for the level I am on, nor the Golden Owl that I have".

I just started refreshing my tree, to pick up on the words I may have forgotten.

I still have a problem with the lady with the Marbles in her mouth..

Their Language Robot.. I don't know why, but I cannot understand a word it says for the most part !

Might be the work I did in AI that is causing me to be super/hyper critical.

Keep on slogging along gang.

Jay

I've definitely reached a point where I'm not retaining the new info. I'm maintaining the streak, but have to check the hints too often. I might backtrack and try out the journaling method, starting with lesson 1. I'll probably kick that off on a weekend, and spend a solid few hours on the first batch so I don't get too discouraged/too behind. In the meantime, I think I'll stick to hitting my daily goal via practice sessions of all covered material to date, just to see if I can get through even 1 session without "cheating".

Jeff;

Wow sir, are you hard on yourself !

This is supposed to be FUN.  You are learning something new, you are changing your thinking patterns, AND learning

other words for things you have known since a little child.  It takes time, and usage for it to fit in, and find a place where it can reside.

I'll share something with you.  For the past several months I have NOT translated a sentence that Marble mouth lady said...

I could NOT understand it (it is a bot).  Finally I began to pick up on how she pronounced SOME words, not all.

I just wrote down the corrected sentence, and when it came back, I wrote the correct answer into the box.. Cheating ???

NO.  I am still learning, I associated the "mumble" with the text.  I heard one of those mumbles today.. and Immediately remembered

that sentence, typed it in, and got it right !  As to "cheating by hovering".. its a habit you get into when you aren't sure of yourself.

You will eventually not be insecure (gotta trust me).  Resist double checking if you can, but if you do, it is only costing you experience

points (yes, they DO look at how often you hover over a word).  After a while, it does come together.

So.. what am I trying to say... You are learning.  That is Fantasmagoric ! You are double checking yourself.. so what.. have you noticed that you are mostly right yet ?  Make sure your platform is steady, then Rock On..  It really does come together, this program is extremely good !

My two brother's speak in German.. they can understand each other.. so.. it does work.. (oh.. they're both butt heads).

I mean, some things I'm good with. There was a BBC story about an 8-year-old kid who invented a new Italian word (petaloso = full of petals; adj. describing a flower) that I read today, and there was an accompanying screenshot of an official government tweet that started "Aspettiamo la primavera..." and, without thinking/pausing, I'm all hell yeah we're waiting for spring. So it's not all of the things. But...I mean...jewelry is something like gioeiolleria (that is wrong...I can't remember what is right), which makes sense looking at it, but remembering all of the excessive vowels in the right order is an exercise in madness.

ROFL.. My dear Friend,

You have NO IDEA how confusing it can get.

I have been in situations when I have been surprised and spoke to the other person in another language!

They just looked at me and said..Oh for god sake Jason, SPEAK English !

ROFL.  It does happen !

I have walked into a food store here (I was born 40 miles away), and asked the checkout person a question.

She looked at me funny and said.. "You tain't from around here are ya's"??

I said.. I am from the area, just I didn't spend a lot of time living here...(Sheesh).

Its all good, you just have to go with the flow, and allow the differences to sink in.

Seems to me you are doing EXTREMELY well.

I feel the frustration at cheating. But as jasonator say, I remind myself that the more I have practiced the less I rely on cheating with older phrases. I need to slow down in my responses. Between typos and failing the verb matching because I'm in a hurry I get more mistakes then I should.

Taking your time IS important.  If you rush through a translation, you most probably are going to get the verb wrong.

One thing that I was overlooking was when I got to a new section, and you have your selections presented.. scroll DOWN the page.

In verbs especially, they usually include a few comments about how it might be different from English, or give you examples of how

its English equivalent would be interpreted. These can save you a lot of headache if you read them first.  An example in the Nordic Languages

would be the word NOT.. You use it like YODA.. Do it NOT is correct, as is don't do it.  Jeg Vil ikke.. (I will NOT).

Look for the hints that they provide you.

I started scrolling down a little while ago, and I agree it is very helpful.  Between that and the discussion it clarifies the subject quite a bit.  On a progress note I made it to day 91 and level 12.  current subject of study is object pronouns.  I am very glad they have those lessons at the bottom of the page for this one.  It would have taken a bit to figure out the differences with out it.

Fantastic !  Great Achievement with that 12.  I am at level 13; but I don't do the reviews.  I read four newspapers every day, so that is my review.

I have just started "spinning the plates" as my brother calls it !  The problem is that they get more and more demanding as you review.

I no longer have the time for that (I'm too busy reading) !  LOL.

Oh.. Objective pronouns, shudder.  There is another one called Modal !

I won't pass on my shudders, since it really depends on what you are predisposed to like and dislike.

I did NOT like business, Computers, Religion and Philosophy (things I have my degree's in).. drove me bananas.

Keep chugging along, totally dominate that language tree !
