Sam Vimes from Terry Pratchett's "Guards! Guards!"

This is Micro Art Studio's 30mm Sam Vimes, a grizzled but goodhearted veteran of the Ankh-Morpork night watch in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
 
In Vimes' first book, "Guards! Guards!" after Vimes narrowly escapes a dragon attack he is nursed to health by the goodhearted, lonely and ridiculously aristocratic Lady Sybil Ramkin, a swamp dragon breeder from the poshest of families.
 
Swamp dragons are pathetic little nervous highly-bred things prone to exploding.  The city is being menaced by a much vaster and more sinister, almost mythic dragon.
 
When an angry mob decides to take out its wrath by attempting to massacre Sibyl's pets, Sam leaps out of his sickbed and, well ...
 

A streak of green fire blasted out of the back of the shed, passed a foot over the heads of the mob, and burned a charred rosette in the woodwork over the door.

'This is Lord Mountjoy Quickfang Winterforth IV, the hottest dragon in the city.  It could burn your head clean off.'

Captain Vimes limped forward from the shadows.

A small and extremely frightened golden dragon was clamped firmly under one arm. His other hand held it by the tail.

The rioters watched it, hypnotized.

'Now I know what you're thinking,' Vimes went on softly. 'You're wondering, after all this excitement, has it got enough flame left? And, y'know, I ain't so sure myself . . .'

He leaned forward, sighting between the dragon's ears, and his voice buzzed like a knife blade:

'What you've got to ask yourself is: Am I feeling lucky?'

They swayed backwards as he advanced.

 

 

And a touch later:

 

 

Vimes looked down at his nightshirt.  In his hurry to get off his sickbed he'd shuffled hastily into a pair of Lady Ramkin's slippers.  For the first time he saw they had pink pompoms on them.

 

 

Sam Vimes is the other of my husband's favorite characters from the Discworld books, along with Granny Weatherwax.  Although this figure isn't as resplendent as Mistress Weatherwax in her evening finery, I enjoyed painting him.  As with Granny Weatherwax, I played around with a few backgrounds, trying to put him in a context of the Ramkin estates.

Perhaps not his most resplendent hour, but certainly among his finest. What a great mini.

 

And they did a good job capturing the ridiculousness of swamp dragon physiology...that shape is absurd!

 

Nicely done on the subtle but very clear (haha) transparency, and Lord Mountjoy's expression! I've seen a horse with that look...definitely time to leave the premises.

I missed the subtle transparency.  I'm going to go look at it again with more care.  I may need to review all the minis she's painted.  Hmmm.

 

These were great birthday presents.  She put an insane amount of work into all of it.
