Are these guy's inspired by the old Dogs of War "Cursed Company"?

Visually at least--yes. I don't know the fluff (backstory) of that group. I do, however like the idea of a necromancer raising an army and having it consist of all the fantasy races, not just humans.

The backstory revolved around the leader/captain. There was something to do with a broken mercenary contract (when he was alive) and the captain's sword (after he was dead).

In game: if the unit caused casualties there was a good chance the casualties would switch sides, (adding more figures).

There was a dwarf skeleton and a lizardman...

Off to a good start!

A suggestion though, Number the bottom of the minis in a way you will remember so that you can replicate the formation each time! The couple of times I tried doing regiments this way, if I didn't number them, I couldn't get them to fit on the movement tray again....

George

Wow..

So simple. Yet I could not think of this for my magnetized skeleton regiment. They have to be in the same setup every time, or they pop apart due to polarization. :D Stealing this. ;D

Dang it, Wolf! You are making me feel like I'm not painting enough!

Great job!

So step it up, bub!

I'm kidding, of course. You do a very good job on the stuff you work on. As long as you're having fun doing that, that's what counts. After all, it's not a competition (or did I miss that memo?)

I guess I'm just really 'in the groove' right now, so I'm gonna go with it as long as it lasts!

Chaos, the asking price on eBay for your 'unit filler' is $88. USD.

I looked at IWM and so far not finding him there.

There was also a Skaven Skeleton and the standardnearer was an Undead Elf.

I love this Unit.

This one is the unconverted form of one of the guys posted above;  an old Mage Knight figure.

I made scraps of clothing attached to the Bones skellies with tissue soaked in a water/white glue mix. They were applied while still damp, and then sealed in place with a dab of superglue.

What a great little detail!

And I love the rust effects on the previous ones and this set, what paint colors are you using for that? My experiments with it just keep coming out plain brown.

Thank you, and I'm sorry that it took me a bit to answer you.

I followed this excellent tutorial by Sirithiliel:

I used different colors than she did only because I don't have those colors.

Most of what I used is out of production (I have a lot of old paint) like Polly S, or old Pro Paints.  I used Polly S rust (a very light orange brown color), Model Master rust (more like a dark brown), Model Master international orange, Reaper Pro Paint Blood Red and Polly S Soviet Brown ( a darker orange brown), all applied over a metallic base coat. The specific colors probably aren't super important, as long as you use something that looks close.

The only thing I did differently, was that I applied a light wash of Army Painter soft tone over the rusty metal areas when I was done with them, this dirties them up a little bit.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the link and the details! Now I just need to find minis I want to try rust effects on!

Edit: And also buy more paint colors, my second favorite thing about mini painting!

Two updates in the same month, whoohooo!!

I finished this guy last night. Now that he's done, I see that he's probably way too brown. I'm not gonna go back and change him, but I'll keep it in mind for the next robed skeleton I work on.

Thanks for looking.

      Hey all!
Here's a quick speedpaint from this evening. It was a two hour deal, from prime to varnish. The only thing that I did yesterday was assembly.

So I don't know much about Battletech, more of a fantasy guy myself, but I do like these figures which are some Mech Warriors that were sculpted back in the eighties by Bob Charette that Ral Partha just recently re-released.  They have eight per pack with different poses, and I got these first from the Liao Faction/Clan/Family.  Going to eventually get through the whole group and I'll eventually photograph the whole group together, which is why I haven't based them yet.  I've been told these are the pilots for the Mechs and it's very hot in the cockpit, which is why they are pretty scantily clad.

These are eighties Partha, so they are some pretty small  25mm sized figures.  More to come later as I finish them!

      Enjoy!

Good morning everybody, so here's a figure that's actually been sitting on my paint desk for probably six months I'm guessing.  I got his skin and his white beard done, but afterwards all the colors to add on afterwards were kind of stumping me, so I ended up just leaving him sitting there for months and months.  For some reason though after getting back from a business trip two weeks ago, I took him up again and finished him pretty quickly.  I think it was a combination of color choices and some tight spots to get paint to that were putting me off.  Anyhoos, I got him figured out and finished.  I gave him some pink shoes, just because I wanted to annoy the cosmic color wheel, but when I look at it, his shoes don't even actually bother me that much. So I'm not sure if I was able to accomplish anything in an attempt to violate the holy color wheel or not.

He's a Hackmaster Battle Mage, probably from around 2003 or so, originally sold on the Hackmaster range and acquired a few years back from Iron Wind Metals/Ral Partha.  Nice solid figure, pretty good side and despite my earlier trepidation, a pretty easy paint job to do.

Fronts and back at slightly different angles, couldn't choose the best ones so threw both sets in.

      So anyhow, hope you enjoy!

Been working on this off and on since RCon. I originally intended to enter it for my Ed Sculpt, but ran out of time. Instead I focused on trying to get a decent fast paint job. I'd guess I'm at about 6 hours total over 4 or 5 days. Sorry I didn't take many process pics. The next step is basing. I have a few ideas, but I'm trying to let them gel a bit.

More practice with nmm. I mixed some brown with the gray for the sword/shield, may not do that every again. Trying not to have it look like stone and not sure how I feel about the results.
My gold isn't very good, I tried with the symbol on the shield and I was disappointed. Pretty much happy with everything else though, especially the bones.
