Maledrakh's old school Warzone Karnophages

Recommended Posts

This year the minis I manage to paint will all count towards the resolutionary challenge. As per the resolutionary painting challenge guidelines, I will post them here, and link in my post in the challenge thread.

With the refurbishment of the old house complete and it now up for sale, I have at last some time to paint a miniature or two. It has been more than a month since I touched a brush smaller than two inches wide, and I have come to the conclusion that I utterly detest redecorating houses, especially everything that involves masking tape.

I still have a lot of old metal minis lying about, and since I recently moved house I have dug up quite a lot of interesting minis from boxes I had forgotten I had...

This time from old-school Warzone:

Muawijhe Karnophages

Muawijhe is one of the Dark Apostles (=Chaos Gods) and the Lord of Visions, and his followers tend to go a bit mad. Karnophages are changed remnants of humans that tried to strike deals with His Insanity, and consequently have lost all their marbles and gone completely round the bend. They cavort around the battlefield, tearing into their opponents with abandon. Or something like that.

Basically your typical human-sized combat demons/cannon fodder. I also have a few I painted back in the day, these are done in a similar enough fashion so I can make a larger squad if I want.

Those are a lot of fun, love your blending on them.  Some of the old school warzone models are fun.  The newer ones are pretty nice, all in all.

The full moon casts a pale blue light across the rugged white landscape. Tall pine trees cling to the rocky ground, branches stirring, shedding their cold white burden as the wolves breathe past. The pack is on the move, and the land is trembling beneath their step. They move with purpose, something is not as it was before. There! An affront; a boat pulled ashore, a small group of fur-clad prey around a campfire, round shields and axes in sight. From the treeline the windwolves move, silent, swift, cold gusts of dark shadow, spirits of malice descending upon the men with claws of ice and fangs of doom.

Continuing with the random minis for now: Cavalry.

Bones Cavalry that is. Over the course of 4 delivered kickstarters of Bones models, Reaper has released a total of 9 mounted models. (11 if you count the flying saucer from the Bones 2 Chronoscope Expansion and the chopper bike mounted Sophie (the one and only Bones KS model delivered in metal!) in the first Bones kickstarter.)

Well, "mounted" is also a theme to use to get something painted, isn't it? And with 9 or 11 models to go for, it should be possible to get done in a timely manner.
Here are the first pair of them that I have painted up.

One of the three minis in the "44036 Dreadmere Females" pack
aka "Serena, Dreadmere Rogue" as she is known in the metal version.
More like, "Serena, Dark Brotherhood Assassin" if you ask me. Nothing screams secret stealth assassin on a mission to do bloody murder as having members-only assassin guild special shrouded armour that is distinct and different from all other armour types and uniforms...

Hm. I thought I heard something...

One of the oldest Bones models in existence:

Reaper Bones 77009 "Werewolf", from the 2011 O.G. pre-kickstarter Bones lineup. This mini is also available in metal under the name 02747 "Jean Paul DuChamps, Werewolf". I just got the hankering to paint this one. Nothing special.

At the very end of the Lost Valley, the bossfight: Clubtail!

A plant eating 4-ton tank armed with a deadly morning star tail, an armoured hide with spikes, -a fantasy version of an Ankylosaur. The clubtail is larger than the fossil record of Ankylosaur supports. Also the spikes are overstated in comparison. A lot.
At any rate, the Ankylosaur was contemporary with the Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Triceratops. All are from what is now North America in the late Cretaceous period, roughly 68 million years ago. It needed that armour.  The question remains: What did it use the club-like tail for? To smesh predators? Rivals? Trees? An impressive display to attract mates? All of the above?
And the clubtail has spikes. Did I mention the spikes?

I detest painting spikes. It takes absolutely ages and I invariably lose patience and botch the job. These look OK for tabletop but do not stand up to close scrutiny at all. At least it is done. Together with the entire Lost Valley Expansion! Woot!

The Clubtail is, in fact, the distant forebearer of the modern day Dragon Tortoise aka Koopa.

      I made it a 125mm x 100mm base.
