Snowman Slayer - Scibor Miniatures 28FM0055

Recommended Posts

This resin beauty was on sale for only three bucks during CMON's BF sale. As I paint slowly (<1hr day) and Reaper's holiday minis didn't go on sale till the 7th, I figured this would be my Santa dwarf I paint up this year as the Reaper ones won't get here in time.

Day One... Partially assembled (axe head isn't glued on yet), and partially basecoated. Nothing fancy...

Nothing says "modern" Christmas like a short, blood thirsty Santa. COOL mini; have FUN with him!

Day 2... Worked on:

More basecoating (Boots/Sock/Fur/Snowman Remains)

Eyes (I hate eyes... hates them...)

Pass 1 (of many) Skin Shading

I forgot to put this in the original post, but I welcome all critiques and comments. Anything that could help me improve my painting. Especially with painting eyes with old tired hands... *sigh* Can I get a pair of 20 year old's hands without any shaking to isle three please? *sigh*

Color Documentation (as much for my own purpose as to share:

Eyes: Brown Liner, Splintered Bone, Saphire Blue + Vamperic Skin Highlight 1:1 (iris)

Cloak: Fresh Blood

Sock: Christmas Weath

Fur: Spintered Bone

Snowman: Pure White

Snowman Coal: Grey Liner

Snowman Nose: Pumpkin Orange + Yellow Sun 2:1

Skin Base: Fair Skin

Skin Shadow: Tanned Skin

Beard: Vamperic Skin (This isn't really the grey base I wanted, too purple...  Really wanted a grey/brown base, and have Ashen Brown coming in the mail...)

Looking good. The last shows that he has a definit evil look to him. Mostly because of the eyes! Someone send over that pair of 20 year old hands?

Heh no robinh, I wish... Eyes took about 5 tries and they still aren't "good" but I decided to move on :)

Ashen Grey came in the mail, so replaced beard. Also worked on (off camera) leather strap on back, and axe head.

Got two more nights to finish this up to tabletop quality for Monday PFS game. *crossing fingers*

Last WIP pictures... Had to rush to get him onto a base for PFS Monday Night. And of course when doing so I dropped him on the table and both the axe and snowman head/hand popped off. *sigh* Spend more time re-gluing instead of finishing. But oh well...

UPDATE 10/19: We are doing two rounds of sign ups. The assignments for the first round were sent out on 10/18. Any questionnaires received after that date will be part of the second round. The deadline for the second round will be 11/13. Updates to the rules due to this change are in green.

Yes, it seems too early to start this but with how this year has gone I thought to give you guys as much time as I could. Also this will give you a slight chance to utilize Reaper's October specials and/or any specials they do next month.

What is Secret Sophie, you ask?

Well, it's a lot like Secret Santa, with a more attractive (albeit more dangerous) delivery person!  (For those not in the know, Sophie the Succubus is Reaper's mascot.)  This is the time of year for Reaper forumites to give a little holiday cheer to each other.

Unlike most of the exchanges we do on the forums, this will have two categories
      - miniature and gift exchange and gift-only exchange.

Round 1: Signups will run from October 4th to October 16th, with the assignments going out by end of day October 19th.

Sign ups for Round 2 will run from October 19th to end of day November 13th, with assignments going out by end of day November 16th.

If you've never done an exchange before, how it works is like this:
Everyone who is interested PMs me (SGHawkins09) with the questionnaire below filled out by the deadline.  The organizer (SGHawkins09) then matches you with a person to whom you will send your gift/mini, and another person from whom you will receive a gift/mini from in return (sometimes it's the same person). Halfway through the exchange, you'll need to send the organizers a WIP.  You have until the deadline to send your gift/mini out.
This exchange is based on trust.  Please be respectful of the fact that someone else is investing their time, money and energy into painting a mini for you.  I am simply the organizer, but I will do everything I can to make sure that everyone who paints a miniature receives one.

      The Rules (tl;dr version)
Gifts should be primarily new, Reaper-branded presents. Exchanging painted miniatures is optional. Fill out the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM. Painters must post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini under a spoiler tag to this thread by December 29th. The deadline for non-painters to mail their items is December 21st.  The deadline for painters is January 31st.
      Full Rules
Decide whether you are doing gift and miniature exchange or gift-only exchange. "Gifts" are Reaper paints, unpainted miniatures, or other Reaper painting supplies.  Recommended dollar value of gifts is $25 or less. The miniature exchange is where you paint a Reaper miniature for someone and mail it to them.  If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. Reaper minis are the focus. If you want to paint more than one miniature, you may do so. If you wish to include other gifts for your recipient, you may do so, but please keep them small.  The focus of the exchange should be a Reaper product. Fill out all the appropriate sections of the questionnaire below and send it to me via PM.  Please fill out the current version of the questionnaire, Please don't just send an old one, as questions may have changed.  Please don't contact your partner unless they have listed themselves as okay with contact. I've included it on the questionnaire, so you'll know who wants to keep it secret and who doesn't.  You will need to acknowledge your assignment message and/or post or message me that you have selected a miniature by November 13th. Basically, if I do not hear anything from you once the assignments go out, you will be dropped, and your recipient will be reassigned as part of Round 2. I really do not want to do this but there have been too many instances in the past of radio silence once assignments go out. Round 2 participants will need to acknowledge your assignment message and/or post or message me that you have selected a miniature by November 30th. In order to encourage people to start painting early, you will need to post a Work In Progress (WIP) image of your mini under a spoiler tag to this thread by December 29th.  The mini should be at least base-coated by this time.  If you don't post a WIP by this point, I may have to demote you to gift-only or drop you from the exchange.  Please don't make me do this. Try really hard to get your miniature out by the deadline.  Let an organizer know if you are going to be late. Please post in this thread once you have received your miniature from your partner. We all love seeing what everyone did and it serves as an acknowledgement that you received it. In the past some people have wanted to send food - please verify allergens, etc. with your partner before proceeding. If you are mailing internationally and plan to send more than just miniatures/paint, you must contact your recipient to get any "bonus items" approved.  We don't want any trouble with customs.  As an example, plant matter or powders can cause a lot of trouble. The organizers (SGHawkins09) can help facilitate any anonymous conversations you want to have with your partner. Have fun!
      Deadline
The deadline for acknowledging your assignment is November 13th for Round 1 and November 30th for Round 2.
The deadline for mailing gifts is December 21st. This is for the gift only participants, painters can send the gifts separate and earlier than the painted figure but it is not required.
The deadline for a WIP photo is December 29th.
The deadline for mailing exchange miniatures is January 31st, but it's even better if you can get them out by Christmas.

      Assignments Deadline
Round 1 assignments have been sent. The organizer will send the assignments for Round 2 by end of day November 16th.  Please let me know if you're interested by end of day, November 13th.  I can't make any guarantees if you're late, but I will try to make arrangements.

      Exchange Assistant
It is just me (SGHawkins09) this time so be patient if you send me a message or post a question, I will get back to you as soon as I can.

      -Contact Information-
      Name:  Forum Guy
E-mail: Forum Guy at emailservice dot com
Notes: This is backup contact information in case we can't contact you via forum PM.  The organizers will not share this with anyone, and we'll only use it as a last resort.
      Address:  1234 my street .

                        (Postal code) or (ZIP code)

Notes: Remember to include your zip code and country.
Please format this correctly for your country in case you have an international partner.

      -Gift Information: Inbound-
What are you interested in receiving? Metal or Bones fantasy monsters
Examples: metal/resin/bones, scenic elements, Dark Heaven Legends/Chronoscope/Warlord/Pathfinder/Savage Worlds, paints
Other gift preferences? I love peppermint but hate licorice
Some people like to include other holiday related gifts, this would be were you could not if you like or dislike stuff related to that. Some things that are commonly asked about are candies, cookies, hot chocolate, tea, etc. If you note something here, it is not a guarantee you will get something extra as non Reaper items are optional.

      -Painted Miniature Information: Outbound-
What can you paint?  Fantasy PCs or monsters
Examples: fantasy, sci-fi, monsters, PCs, women, undead, demons, etc
What do you like painting the most? bugbears and orcs
Notes: if possible, the organizers will try to match you up with someone who wants this thing, but if we can't we'll fall back to what you "can" paint

      -Painted Miniature Information: Inbound-
What do you want to receive?  Fantasy enemies for my players to fight!  Monsters or human(ish) are both fine.
Examples: mouslings, necromancers, warriors, dual-wielders, etc
What DON'T you want to receive?  No nudity please.  Also, I have plenty of goblins so I don't need more.
Examples: gross, nudity, undead, kobolds, animals, etc
What material do you want to receive?  I'm fine with any material
Notes: Reaper miniatures come in Bones, resin and metal
Do you have a particular color scheme in mind?  No preference.
Notes: If you're asking for a miniature to be used in army, you can ask your partner to match the colors.
What style of basing would you prefer? Plain or basic - I will use these miniatures in my PFRPG games.
Examples: round or square preference? Unbased, plain base (simple black base), basic base (standard sized base with some scenic elements), or scenic base (fancy base not really suitable for gaming)
Please give your partner some inspiration, especially if you have very few preferences above.
I'm starting the PFRPG Adventure Path "Jade Regent" soon.  Try painting non-human skin tones.  My favorite color is blue.  "Spring has sprung!"
Notes: Consider this a non-binding word of inspiration for your partner.  If they're stuck and can't figure out what to paint, maybe this will help them.  No need to repeat your preferences above.  You partner may ignore this question if they already have an idea from the your previously answered questions.
Examples: Are there any books or movies you've enjoyed recently?  Is there a challenge or technique you'd like your partner to try?  How about some song lyrics or a quote from a book?

      -Personal Information-
      Will you ship internationally? Yes
Notes: Be aware that postage costs will be higher than domestic postage.  If you mail internationally, you will need permission from your partner to include other gift items so that we don't run afoul of customs.  Most participants in these exchanges are located in the USA.
Would you be willing to have multiple exchange partners? Yes, I love painting!
Notes: If yes, specify if there is a limit (though it is unlikely we'll ask you to do more than 2)
Would you like to know who is painting for you? No
      Examples: Yes, No, No Preference
Notes: If you say yes, your preference will be communicated to your partner.  It will be up to them to contact you.
Would you like your partner to know who is painting for them? No
      Examples: Yes, No, No Preference
Notes: You can contact them directly to work out details or ask for advice.  We will attempt to match people with similar preferences, but can't guarantee this is the case.
Is there anybody you would prefer not to paint for?  (please include why)    I painted for johndoe123 in the last miniature exchange.
Notes:  If you like to paint for a variety of different people, you can list those you've painted for in the past.  We will do our best to pair you with someone new.  Another situation is that you know certain people in real life, and would prefer to paint for someone you don't know.

An older miniature I started years ago, but finished recently. I think it was mostly the weapons (shading) and dirty shirt missing. I would say the paint job is average, but I do like the miniature.

I decided to go for a simple, but interesting base, featuring a Nolzur's bottle and Thomarillion barrel.

      Hi folks,
I recently painted up the dark dwarves (and Margara, dwarf shaman) as some duergar. Heavily inspired by Dr. Faust's Painting Clinic duergar streams for the skin.
Only one picture, but may take more if there's interest. :)

Painted this dwarf after he inspired me to write a D&D adventure.  It's a really cool fig with plenty of neat little details.  Comments and critiques are always welcome!  Thanks in advance!

      The way of the Dawi-kin

A goal of Acquiring every single Reaper Dwarf and painting em up.

Master check list has been put together that will be updated with time.

Any duplicate model will receive conversion using Reaper weapons.

I like my check-off lists and achievement progress icons.
Green box indicates the mini is owned, the picture next to model indicates that is has been painted.

      ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

      Reaper, Dwarf Mancatcher, sku: 14463
Made this guy a Noblemen with bright colored clothes and golden glave.

Reaper, King Axehelm of Kragmarr, 77478
Wanted a dirty worn look on this dwarf kind, and a high contrast in color scheme of white and red.
Made a mistake on this one using wrong type of shade that made everything glossy, had to layer addition shades of different brand to take out the gloss. turned out a bit darker than planned.

      Reaper, Dwarven Brewmeister, 02559
Quite a strait forward model to paint.
Did not want crazy colors for this guy.

A variation of royal blue color scheme with gold patterns and closed eye lids could be interesting.

The rest of the gang. Those mugs man, are like half the size of that poor little barrel.
Wanted grouped colors of tans and browns to create tonal contrast instead of use of intense colors.
These are quite easy to paint, good models.

      Reaper, Hagar, Dwarven Hero, 77482
Wanted to make Hagar and Durgam Deepmug into a two brother team of green-beards.
      Just leather, iron, and green.

Reaper, Durgam Deepmug Dwarf Hero, 77400
      The green-beard brother of Hagar.
Rangers both, with green rune weapons

      Reaper, Dwarf Royal Weapomaster, 77574
There is nothing royal about this malicious looking guy.
      Went for high contrast red/white.
I was thinking of possible conversions, I don't know, this is not the most interesting dwarf model they have for that.

      Reaper, Fulumbar, Dwarf Warrior, 77011
Gave him axe and a shield from reaper Weapon pack III
Usually I do not go for bright colors, yet this warrior needed some frost armor! (too much terreria of late)

      Reaper, Fulumbar, Dwarf Warrior, 77011
The original model with a bit older paint job, or battle dirt paint job ;)
But with TrueBlood effect paint from GreenStuff

      Reaper, Freja Fangbreaker , 77073
This is one of the cooler looking models, even though was a bit hard to paint.
Older paint job, dirty, battle weathered.
Went with Conan the Barbarian face paint.

      Reaper, Freja Fangbreaker , 77073
Same model with Weapon Pack III axe upgrade.
Most recent paint job, cleaner with different paint scheme of bronze and green.
