I would love to discover it was something so mundane!

Could also be a good introduction to Lando's return in the next episode. ::):

My nephew is CONVINCED that Finn is Lando's son, and was kidnapped by the First Order and brainwashed to become a storm trooper.  That's why he broke free of the brainwashing, and why he seemed to be so comfortable with Han.  He knew him as a toddler, and those memories were not completely wiped clean.

I just laughed and shook my head and was like, damn, if they go through such convoluted lengths to make this Star Wars: The Next Generation, I will scream.  And not be shocked to be honest...

Qwtyksilver. I think your nephew is probably on the right track. Starwars is filled with huge coincidences. Fin being Lando's son would not bother me. I think that's better than Annakin building c-3po anyway.

I saw the movie again yesterday evening. So My revised thoughts on it.

It's still awesome.

The Fin/Rey love interest does not bother me. I think Fin was raised with soldiers and did not have any real friendships. So the first girl he talks to that isn't connected to the first order, and shows interest in him... Its like being the new kid at a new school and getting a crush on the first kind person... I can relate (ok I could relate 25 years ago... :) ) and totally buy into it.

Rey has been living on a jerkwater planet where everyone is out for themselves. Fin is the first person who has tried to help her without any seemingly ulterior motives.  Plus he is "a big shot in the rebellion (or whatever they call it now)" So he is not a small person like everyone else she knows. So I can buy into her attraction to him too...

I still don't like the Fin/Po friendship. Not enough on screen time with each other to justify.

To sum up, its still awesome. May go to see a 3rd time on New years day.

I want to familiarize myself with the music before I see it again.

One of the kids with musical training has heard and developed theories based on the motifs and when they occur.

Plus it's just fun to recognize the music, as I have discovered with "Doctor Who".

I kind of like the Snokes = Plagueis theory, which is based on a similarity of musical themes.

Both of those themes -- brrrrrr!

I can accept Kylo Ren is still struggling with the light and dark sides of the force, and that would explain his rather weeny abilities despite how strong they showed him earlier in the movie (though i still feel he could've done a bit better, even wounded as he was)

I can also accept Rey had previous training and that's why she's a instant natural at abilities like the mind trick (though i still feel she picked that up a little too perfectly)

i still can't find a satisfying explanation for the stormtrooper captain's complete submission......to make captain, i would think she'd have more dedication than that. hopefully that is explained in the next movie....

She submited because she thought as soon as the shield was lowered her troopers would storm the room and turn the shields back on.    For some reason they didn't.    The First order not simply turning the shield back on is the biggest plot hole in the movie.

I came to realize a few days ago that nothing in the musical score struck me this time. Sure there were some of the classic pieces, but nothing stood out.

Granted, I was never a musically inclined person in the first place, and maybe I was to engrossed with the rest of the movie to notice.

Yes. Star wars is infamous for its leitmotifs and I'd you're very diligent, you hear a couple of sneaky familiar ones from the prequels when it comes to Snokes. Also you hear Luke's Original one a couple times around Rey.

Normally, I'd shrug it off as someone pretending to be clever by driving the story and trying to subconsciously affect the listener but its John Williams. He knows hisstuff so I'd bet there's real significance when the leitmotifs happen in the music.

I like your kids Pingo!

"And I think... there."

{Pneurrrrrrmmmmm}....

"Nice. Move aside, Big Deal."

{Pew! Pew! Pew pew pew!}

{Krssproing....BLAM!}

"Okay, that should be good enough - let's see them turn those shields back on now!"

"That... was a lot of noise. We should get out of here."

"Yeah...yeahhh.... good idea, Big Deal. C'mon Chewie, let's scram before someone notices the shields went... and those are the alarms. Of course."

(Han does have kind of a passion for shooting up Imperial control consoles that might annoy him. Or talk back to him. Or look at... well, okay, he pretty much has a habit of shooting up any control console that even looks like it might one day be cross with him)

I actually got to see it!! Woo!

Okay, my thoughts:

Rey is Luke's daughter. Reasons: When Rey is sitting in front of the AT-AT eating she puts on Luke's flight helmet. The lightsaber called to her. The memory flash-back showing Luke leaving her behind as a child (his hand is shown). There was similar foreshadowing in IV when Ben told Luke his father "died in a volcano."

I can buy Fin being Lando's son.

Beholders in spaaaaaaace!

Did anyone else have the same thought I did upon seeing Supreme Commander Snoke? "They have a giant Gollum running the Empire?"

Loved Maz! In some ways she reminded me of my Mally, if she got merged with Yoda. I hope we see her again.

Han: No one is dead until we see a body. Yes... yes I know I know. One, way too contrived of a plot device. Han was too slick to not know what Kylo was going to do. Especially his son. No, Han went in with his "Whatever it takes" comment knowing, because it will be the thing that helps Kylo in the end. IMO, I hope to be proved wrong and Kylo is an irredeemable S.O.B.. Sadly it won't be that way.

Kylo: What the elf is up with that John Travolta Saturday Night Fever look? I expected him to start doing the hustle, except he was too emo. Really... what's up with Sith Lords having to be so emo? Anakin and now Kylo? Maul wasn't. Original Vader wasn't. Pansy-elf Siths.

Romance/Bromance: *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk* Geeze WHYYYYY? Just let it happen on it's own through onscreen chemistry and scriptwriting. This was the beauty of the first trilogy. The friendships were allowed to naturally build.

Reaction times: Wow, travel between systems is faster than I can get to work in the morning. The FO can sure muster a lot of troops quickly to react to a couple of communications from a distant planet full of villany.

But... for all of that, I still enjoyed it. My mom, who has only seen Ep IV, enjoyed it and said it felt like a Star Wars film. My youngest loved it, but curled up and cried when Han died.

It did feel like a Star Wars movie. Yes it felt rushed. There were problems (as the originals had, too), but overall was fun and, most importantly, it fits into the core movies well.

I just hope they avoid the very obvious plot contrivances. So far they already have too many, so I have little hope.

And ugh... Kylo's hair... slick it back please! Or shave it off! Something!

He was actually kind of effective with his helmet on.  The solution is obviously to dip his head in some lava so that he has to wear the helmet at all times.

he was at least menacing and had potential as a bad guy =P until the helmet came off and he turend into a spoiled brat stamping his feet

Exactly this. I can't take him as a serious BBEG now. If I had been Rey when the helmet came off, snickering would have occurred (and likely gotten me killed, but oh well).
