Force Awakens SPOILER thread

was that a bit inflammatory?  I thought it was common knowledge that star trek is science fiction with the emphasis on science.  whereas star wars is a mere space operatic futuristic fantasy.

A bit. And yes, but that doesn't mean that us Trek fans think so little of Wars fans that they wouldn't realize the music was wrong...

RE: Dearth of Rey toys.

My youngest was asking where all the Rey toys were the other day. He had Christmas money to spend. This led to a conversation:

"I like all the Star Wars characters... except Kylo Ren."

"Why?"

"Because he did... That Thing."

"Ahhh."

"I'd like to see the movie again. But only if they take out That Scene."

"You really don't like him, huh?"

"He's mean and stupid."

My 8 year old, their prime target demographic for toys, hates the one figure they thought would sell well and wants the one they did not make. *proud mama*

Ah! That thing. That makes more sense from an 8 year old than the (potentially incestuous) rapey threat, which was the thing that bothered me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that scene felt a little rapey.

Yeah, messing w/ Poe's head like that... woooboy! ::P:

Oh it was rapey, but for an 8 year old who loves his Dad, Kylo killing Hero Han (he's seen all the other movies), that was horror. Poor kid cried and turned away. After that, I don't think Kylo can redeem himself in his eyes. He's Evil-Terri-Bad and my 8 year old wants a Rey figure.

I'm really curious to see if the writers try to redeem him at some point in the following two movies. My gut says they will, since that's kind of Star Wars' thing, but I'm not sure people will buy it. Of course Anakin/Vader also does horrific, unforgiveable type things and gets his moment of redemption at the end of RoJ, so we'll see.

The thing is, Vader did his horrible terribad things in the prequels. WAAAAAAAY after ROTJ was made. When Ben was killed, Ben let Vader kill him. It was less Vader's doing and more Ben's sacrifice.

But in the first movies, Vader wasn't that bad. Kylo, though, is elf cake.
