Moderator Chaoswolf Posted January 17, 2016 Moderator Share Posted January 17, 2016 *** Waits patiently until everyone is done fighting and tumbling over rules, will enter the contest after all other contestants have knocked each other out**** >nods at the brother wolf's wisdom<
dsmiles
A stupid question maybe, but regarding last years contest. How will winners be announced? Will that be a new thread? Usually not, IIRC.
Maredudd
So has a final set of categories been decided upon?
TGP
Any news yet what contest it will be? What about a theme of BIG&little? The entry needs at least two figures (but up to five is allowed). One needs to be 28mm or smaller. The other needs to be Ogre or larger. Mounted as a diorama or vignette is allowed but not required. Examples: — A Bugbear and his goblin sidekick — Four dwarfs fighting a Giant — A dragon converted to have a rider — Two adventurers attacked by a Wyvern (diorama)

Maredudd
Well, I think I'll be doing a diarama with a largish, or three, creatures facing off against a halfling army. Hopefully there'll be a catagory to enter it in . . . :-)

I've never been a fan of diorama contests, and never enter the diorama category of the forum contests. And this puts the kibosh on non-gaming scale minis (54mm, 70mm, 72mm scale). Like the ones I just purchased for this year's contest.

BIG&little is not a diorama contest. It could also be two figures separately based. It could be a 72mm Giant painted as Felix and a 22mm tall dwarf painted as Gotrek. On two bases. Diorama basing is an option. Only an option.
dsmiles
No offense, TGP, but I'd be out. I'm in it for single mini, large size. There are contests throughout the year for gaming scale minis, if I want to paint some of those for that purpose.
Slendertroll
I think that would be a fine theme for the diorama/squad competition we've already been discussing. I don't see any particular need for a theme, but I would be amenable to that for that category. The only issue is that the multi-figure category always has the fewest entries anyway, so restricting that one in particular with a theme would only make that worse.
cerebro1974
Once all rules/regulations/etc. are finalized I may throw my hat in!

There are contests throughout the year for gaming scale minis, if I want to paint some of those for that purpose. After I scanned through the thread I got the idea that there was a search on for: 1) A Fresh but unified Theme 2) A theme that would draw in more participation. Those two things kind of oppose each other. BIG & little was just me trying to figure out something that could have a shot at achieving both. As far as the specific models you had selected it looked like they would all work for the BIG component. All you'd need is to think of something for "little" companion pieces. Frex, the superhero crouched atop an angel statue ... that pair of weeping angel figures Reaper has done would work for the "little" component. Also, they don't need to fit in a diorama loose companion pieces is A-Ok, encouraged even.
Maredudd
So diorama's are discouraged? I may sit this one out then. Not that I have had the chance to participate yet, but circumstances are aligning . . .
MissMelons
Dioramas are never discouraged. There has always been a diorama category for the year long contests. At least for the last three years that I've been here.
TGP
So diorama's are discouraged? No. The "BIG / little" notion I was hawking allows both, either is fine, both are good, they are judged together... ...unity ...harmony! ...Oi. OR! Someone could do an entry where the models fit into holes on a scenic base, but they can un-slot, or detach thanks to magnets, and be photographed as separate figures. Diorama, check. Separate, figures check. One entry, check. ^That too would be an option. ________ @dsmiles — that skeletal knight could have a skeletal dog companion piece. (Separate bases.)
