Resolutionary Painting Challenge 2016 Chatter/Questions

Recommended Posts

09067: Rosy Shadow

09084: Pale Lichen

The latter, and its brethern, so to speak, are my favorite colours Reaper makes, next to Bloodstain Red

Given that I literally just updated my paint list and tidied all my paints away, picking some nice ones was easy! I tried to stick with lighter colors that wouldn't make everything all muddy-looking and drab.

09061 Linen White

09059 Aged Bone

09143 Yellowed Bone

09680 Spectral White (though actually I think this one might be LE)

09678 Aquamarine Blue

09068 Rosy Skin

09094 Clear Red

09110 Oiled Leather (I use this one all the time!)

And just for fun: 09419 Tropical Blue (this is one of the new Bones paints)

...Actually, seeing all these colors together (I pulled them out to see the item numbers), they would look pretty rockin' if I painted a mini just using these. *ponders*

I had a question :: trying to remember what it was. Hmmpf.

Oh, can the Fools Guild figure be one out of the 5 for the month?

Yes. If you do the fools guild and the short story/paragraph or two explaining why they deserve to be part of said guild, that same figure counts one for March AND one for April

These are a certain 'Starwolf's' baby pics from his first Halloween....

I did this last October as kind of a joke with Xherman.....

He had commented that Ub3r's Avatar's shield should have been a 'technicolor wolf', and away I went....

Now that I have a job, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get anywhere close to hitting goal for the month. I may take a shot at the bonus challenge, though. I've actually come up with an utterly ridiculous paint scheme for a ninja that actually makes perfect sense in one very specific context, lol.

What do people think of CAV? Some like tanks are obviously a medium size. But things like Tiamat are larger than a human, not quite a large though. Just asking opinions here

I think they are awesome!!  ::D:

Oh, you mean for painting?  Anything large (however we define that....the size of an ogre?) should count for 2.

From the Bones 4 core set, this is the subset called "Classic Horror", #130 through #135.
A take on some of the monsters of the 1930's Universal movies series fame, with both male and female counterparts. I based the Mummy on a 35x25mm base as his integral base was both scenic and rather wide and I did not want to cut it down. The others are based on 30mm round lipped bases.

I am slowly working through the Bones 4 core set. Today we come to #13, the Warrior of Chaos. I don't know what Reaper is calling this mini, if they even have a name for it yet. I imagine it would be something like "Bloodcurdle Angerpants, Anti-Paladin" or "Gruff McDuff, Evil Fighter". (Feel free to use these names, Reaper )
But it clearly is a Warrior of Chaos.

This model has the look, what with horned helmet, bulky full plate, skulls, straps, furry shoulders, heavy cloth cloak and the tower shield.
...and I was going to put a picture of a chaos warrior from the GW webstore here for comparion, but they obviously did not want me to, so that did not happen. No matter.
Did I say Warrior of Chaos? This is clearly a Champion of Chaos, what with such a massive rock to put their foot upon! Feet, even!
I had to base it on a 40mm base. Champion sized at that.

I have the higher ground! You cannot win! Also, I have a full set of Chaos Armour and all you have are tighty whiteys!

      40mm round lipped base
should be available from reapermini.com some time in the future

A large mini ragepainted sloppyfast in under an hour just to blow off some steam and get it off the tray it has been standing around for ages on.
Well, large mini I say. Compared to most other dragons of the Bones kickstarters, this one is rather smallish.
However, back in the day when heavy metal was king, this mini would be considered a large miniature of a dragon.

Please use the full SKU and name of Reaper minis in the titles of your Show Off threads, per forum guidelines. You can find this information on the blister card or in the online store. I also like to give credit to the sculptor in a tag, so people can find their favorites.
We have a high volume of posts generated from this challenge, which is great! But it's also creating a lot of work for the mods. Ladystorm has already urged folks to comply with these guidelines.
As an experiment, this project has been moved to be a bi-monthly challenge again, that seemed to have worked so until further notice that is our format. The longer time frame theoretically will give less stress to painting, and allow more complex jobs, and more sinister challenges.
      Reaper only? - No.
If going on vacation, can I paint a mini(s) ahead to cover that time frame? - Yes.
Are speed paints acceptable - Yes.
Can it be a mini started previously? - Yes.
      Based or unbased? - Yes.
Do minis for exchanges count? - Yes.
      NEW RULE - Size Equivilancy
(This list is subject to change as bones 3 releases)
Medium and smaller = 1 ea
Simple Terrain (plain floors, walls) = 1ea
Complex Terrain (http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Terrain/latest/03518 or such) = 2 ea
Large (Giants and the like) = 2 ea
Huge (Most dragons, Demon Minotaur Lord, etc) = 3 ea
Bigger (Kally, Khanjirra, etc) = half of quota rounded up
      Colossal ("Tianot,") = quota
Due to the variable nature of a CAV I compare them against a generic 28mm figure and the Avatar large figure. I take height and bulk into considering if it is worth 1 or 2 figures.
If it's not in this list, it counts as 1. (not yet updated for the CAV II figures)
If you have a question on the size, please post it here, and I'll address them individually.
Much like last year, the idea is to help those of us that normally paint VERY little or not as much as one would like, to start painting more.
      You challenge begins...now!
      And Our Mantra:
If your name is missing, or you believe your count is incorrect, please PM me. Please note: to make counts easier, post in the bi-monthly thread and include the tag RPChallenge
      The objective:
To paint 52+ minis throughout the course of the year via bi-monthly quota
(each bi-monthly thread will have the quota listed as well as the master list)
      What qualifies:
      Darn near anything!
      Any material!
Shelf of shame minis from ages long forgotten!
      Exchange minis!
      Speed paints!
Armies! (Though I'd encourage perhaps something outside the army as well)
      Any Size!
Etc! (I think that covers everything)
      Year long challenge
Pick a miniature of size large or greater to complete in the Jan-Feb Block. In Nov-December, purchase that same mini and repaint in the same scheme to see direct side-by-side improvement or changes in your methods
