January's Effort

4 Spartan Games, Dystopian Wars 1/1200 Tanks

...but no FrostWizard, (theme failed ::(: ).

As for bonus, Frostgrave ties in perfect for Wizards and Winter.

And I really wanted to do one...

4 for January :: 4 for year.

Oh this looks fun!

My goals this month was to work on gnolls.  Do eyes, then TMM armor and bases.  possibly 0 finished this month, but all 8 finished by next month.

I will add the winter wizard from the challenge for variety.

Whoo!

  1. 02910: Cheetah Girl - Khajiit Marksman
  2. 02982: Casiatta - Battlemage, Babe of House Slytherin
  3. 03445: Drunk Pirate - Pirate campaign

I added another pirate in case Casiatta didn't count - I started her in December, and that's not really Shelf of Shame, just behind on painting!

I'm in! Not 100% sure what I'm doing yet but I'll sort it out, or you people can tell me if I get something wrong. ::):

  1. 89013: Ezren, Iconic Wizard (Show Off) (WIP) (Reaper store
  2. 77356: Anhurian Swordsman (Show Off) (Reaper store)
  3. (Another Anhurian Swordsman)
  4. (And yet another Anhurian Swordsman)

Not sure if I'm doing the bonus yet, I have a mage who needs painting who might work for it, but... not decided. Nope, no bonus for me! Too busy with other stuff.

(I'm likely to get either none or >12 done this month, actually, because most of the painting I want to do is army painting right now. I gots me a Frostrgrave warband needs painting! ::P: )

I really have far too many miniatures. At least 20, and with a further 20 inbound from the 20 kickstarters I have backed the last few years. So for 2016 I will try to crank out those minis at an elevated pace, and chalk up an even 366 -one for each day - finished by the end of the year. And keeping my normal sloppyfast painting quality at a minimum. At least that is the goal.

Of course, this means that to avoid spamming the excellent reaper forums with samey, production-line dross nobody really wants to see, I will not be posting each and every one in the show off-forum even though the rpchallenge says I should.

But I will be putting them all up on my blog and linking them here.

2016 started strong, with 14 finished the first weekend, and a further 18 a few days later.

1. Bones Wall of Ice

3. Bones Treasure Pile and Candelabras

1. Bones Ghost King

1. Bones Mocking Beast

2. Bones Hordlings

1. DreadBall MVP: The Mighty Z'zor! (Ludwig)

2. Studio Miniatures: Nazi Zombies

2. Vor: Baby Growlers

7. Shadows of Brimstone Heroes

6. Shadows of Brimstone: Hell Bats

12. Shadows of Brimstone: Void Spiders

3. Shadows of Brimstone: Slashers

1. Shadows of Brimstone: Goliath

1. Shadows of Brimstone: Harbinger

1. Citadel Oldhammer Chaos Dwarf

1. Mantic Kings of War: Ba'Su'Su the Vile (Gargoyle Character)

2. Leviathan: Hell Hounds

18. Mantic SciFi Zombies conversions

Painted so far this month / year: 65

So after too many years of painting with my bottles just in boxes or standing around on my shelf of shame or in various drawers, I have finally at much cost of labor made paint organizers!  BEHOLD!  I made these to hold up to 204 Reaper dropper sized bottles (Army Painter and Vallejo fit too).  They aren't the only ones I use by any means, but they're the bulk of my paint collection.

Wasn't the hardest thing in the world, but honestly I might try another method if I do this again.  Right now the units are loose, probably going to lean them on the wall--eventually I would put supports on the backs so they can stand up at an angle (think picture frames).  The insane super duper bonus feature is that I can put the two together and transport, or more importantly, SHAKE all my paints at once!  The main purpose was organization though and being able to see each of my paints and, when I've organized and sorted them, see the spectrum at a glance rather than digging through a drawer as I have been doing.  For the chromophiles out there I'll post pics when they're sorted and in their proper places.

To make them, I sized the bottles and figured out the hole size and spacing (bottles are about 1" diameter, I used a 1 1/8" hole saw (paddle bit blew out the back side) and drilled 102 holes (sandwiched the 3/4" boards together).  It took hours as my drills' batteries kept dying and the saw lost its good edge by the 60th holes or so.  I used the "holes" I drilled out as supports (had to chisel the middle supports in half) between the silver parts and the 5mm (yes, civilized world, in the US we know how to use proper/metric, and certain sizes of wood are specified in metric!) plywood base (black, not really visible).  I carefully glued and screwed these together.  Decided to use up some spray paint I had lying around.  Enjoy and be inspired!

The Al Fasid, also known as "The Corrupted", are HaqqIslam's heavy troopers that will get the job done no matter the cost.  Their methods aren't always the prettiest, and they're never the stealthiest, and they have their own tricks they bring with them to the table.  They don't care about glory, and are solely chosen for their solid record of getting the job done.  Some enjoy it, some are in it for the solid paycheque, and others do it because the only thing theyy know what to do is fight.  Today I have the HMG version, who also conveniently carries a grenade launcher that can shoot either regular grenades to keep enemy heads down, or smoke grenades to provide additional cover.  Oh, they also pack anti-personnel mines with them too...

Since the "tactical rock" under his right foot kind of looked rather strikingly like the backpack for a Yu Jing (even though I'm not having any luck finding models to confirm this), I decided to try and test out my planned colour scheme for them.  That's right, I'll be going with a dark raver / cyberpunk burnt neon pink for their general colour, because why not - I'm going with hot orange for my Haqq...

All the information you need should be here.

As a change of pace from the Hard Mode Challenge, this round will have a Skill Challenge.

      May and June 2019 Challenge

      Your challenge is: 9!

      Bonus Challenge: The First!
"Mayday!" is an international distress signal used in verbal communication in ships and aircraft.  Your first bonus challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to paint a miniature in some distress.  This could be a diorama, an adventurer falling into a trap, villian whose weapon just broke, or anything else your mind can conjure.

      Bonus Challenge: The Second!
The Solstices: June marks the beginning of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter in the Southern Hemisphere.  Paint a miniature or a pair of miniatures showcasing this duality.

      Skill Challenge: OSL
Try your hand at painting a miniature using OSL or Object-Source Lighting.  If you feel like this is something that is already in your wheelhouse, work on your technical skills in another area.  Practice NMM, TMM, wet-blending, sculpting, or anything else you've been meaning to try.

As always, the game is made up and the points don't matter!

Being that this is the figure that was the biggest reason why I picked up the Hassassin Bahram Sectorial Starter Pack (say that three times fast ), I was suspecting he'd wind up on my painting desk sooner or later...  I just didn't realize he'd have the honour of being the first finished this year, as well as my first finished Infinity miniature!

At some point in the near future I'll acquire some S2 holoprojector tokens for him, as actual 3D representations are nice.  Not sure where from, but I like my current Art of War Studios things, so probably theirs.

Oh, and for those who might be curious, that's a Global Evil Corp UniPod with two StairPods (well, one pack) in the first three pics, fourth one is a DuoPod with a StairPod alongside it.  Sadly no magnets yet for the terrain, but they're on the way, and will get here at some point
