Glitterwolf
I read this thread title as Car Sale for Miniatures... Armorcast has some wrecked cars in 28mm, maybe useful,
Dr.Bedlam
I finally adquired the mythical Hot Wheels Max Steel bike... it is listed as 1/64 in the back but looks amazingly right next to Heroic 28mm minis! So, beyond the scales, check what works with a mini if possible. You can slip a Bones in your pocket without any problem and take it with you to toy stores! I ehem sometimes do that Hell, I keep meaning to take a metal figure and attach it to my keyring.
Werkrobotwerk
huh I had not realized hot wheels bikes scaled so nicely to 28mm minis. I found a weird yellow bike with clear wheels while I was at the supermarket, pretty close to right.

They are way out of scale with the cars, which are too small for minis (though I have used them for terrain).

I think it was thanks to a thread that Pingo mentioned the Hot Wheels miniatures in that I now have a good selection of them. Although I'm still looking for an affordable way to make a modern street scene to game on. Hmm... It's been a while since I've been to that hobby store where I picked up all those motorcycles...

I don't know what you mean by affordable... houses are easy to do (hard to detail, but easy to do with cardboard, foamboard, etc); these Bikes are cool for terrain, there are a lot of affordable MDF stuff like dumpsters, streetlights, etc... I need to get working again in my urban Infinity table, but there are a lot of examples out there!

Asphalt shingles cut nicely to look like streets. Just have to paint yourself some street lines.
ttuckerman
How about the black paper used in roofing? Less thick and less costly than shingles but also looks like blacktop.
Willen
Or just take foamboard, remove the paper (very easy using moisture or a heat gun from afar), make an irregular ball of aluminium paper and roll it firmly creating texture. Grey household paint (discarded samples from paintstores are great and cheap), then a dark paint wash, done.
Werkrobotwerk
Cheap sand paper can also work pretty well, or those black grip strips that are supposed to be stuck on stairs. I know it is recommended a lot (sandpaper), but I always get a shiver down my spine about the thought of a mini rolling onto a sanding surface, brrrrr!! Doug Sundseth
The black foamed neoprene* that is used for CCG playmats can work pretty well for roads with some painted lines. Though real "blacktop" roads are normally a light-to-medium gray after the first week or so. Buildings are pretty easy to fake in. The simplest methods to suggest buildings involve cutting doors and windows in appropriately sized cardboard boxes and adding a bit of paint and a few details. For more complex (and much prettier) buildings, you might want to take a look at Heisler's Building Calamity series * I think that's what it is, anyway.
strawhat
With all the talk of motorcycles, it's worth mentioning that Warlord is getting ready to release Wargames Factory's biker set as part of their (Warlord's) new Project Z tabletop game. There will also be a leader/hero sprue coming out with a slightly more detailed bike. The bikes should be generic enough to pass for a non-specific motorcycle from many eras.

Hadn't heard anything about this new project. I used to be fairly active on the Wargames Factory forums and this sounds almost exactly what a bunch of us were asking for. Haven't been over there in a long while, well before the Warlords distributorship deal. I should probably see if that forum is still active. Really a big fan of Wargames Factory newer female zombie and the survivor sets.
strawhat
There aren't many of us left over at WGF. The partnership with Warlord strangled what was already a low-volume board. Once PZ comes out, I pretty much expect it to die. The bikers, retooled male zombies, and special forces were pretty much the last identified sets ready to roll out. I didn't think I'd miss the WGF forum as much as I do.
