Did you see the 1/43rd scale tractor trailers for $10 each? They had a tanker, a standard freight trailer, a cattle hauler and a dump truck with a trailer.

They're called Adventure Wheels Big Rigs.

Removed some pictures, but that box is about 18 inches (45.6cm) long and almost 5 inches (11.8cm) tall and it's 3.25 inches (8cm) thick.

So they're big boxes and in both Walmarts that I saw them in they were at or above eye height (I'm 5 foot 10 inches / 1.77 meters).

Edited to add non-USian measurements. ::):

Thanks for the tips guys!

I have noticed that along with the generics there are a lot of region-specific police cars.

For example, in Darsc's post yesterday the car on the left says "RCMP" (can't read the one on the right).

When I was in New York the toy police cars said "New York", and in Chicago not only did they say "Chicago" but they had the distinctive Chicago livery of white cars with a single horizontal baby blue stripe.

I'm not at home right now but I believe the boxes said the RCMP vehicle was from the '80's and the police car on the right was a current model from LA. (I think)

I'll edit this post once I'm home later today.

EDIT: And now I'm editing. The RCMP car is a 1983 Dodge Diplomat and the black and white is a LAPD 2011 Dodge Charger.

Can't believe how much cars have changed in the last 30 years.

The Wal-Mart here in California had some of those big rigs. I got the cattle hauler and big box truck.

I've been buying up "1/43" cars as well as similar scales.. I've found that a lot of cars marked as 1/43 are actually closer to 1/50. A lot of time the scale is just a guess and the cars are actually built to specific lengths or wheelbases. IMO the difference isn't noticeable until you start comparing though. If you have some here and there on a tabletop or one randomly in a diorama, it'll most likely go unnoticed.

My thanks to all the enablers here.

Thanks to you all I was able to run over to a nearby Walmart on my break earlier and pick up both the standard freight trailer and oil tanker rigs.

I have.. a LOT of this scale diecast and plastics.. would it be helpful if I posted pictures of what I've got?

Just an FYI. A lot of interstate gas stations and touristy type stops have these types of cars. I have also found them in tractor supply stores, drug stores, hardware stores, etc. I picked up a lawn mower/tractor, a green landscaping cart/truck (kinda like an ATV but with a truck bed), and some other really unusual cars.

That Beetle looks like it might be 1/32 scale.....but at least your Ogres can have a car now. ::D:::P:

Edit because I forgot to ask the question that I was posting for.

Where did you get the SWAT truck and what, if any, identification is on it. Manufacturer, name, that kind of stuff.

Thanks.

Thanks.

You're correct about the Beetle. I looked for an indication of scale at the store, but when a I got home I found it under the upc sticker. 1:32 and it does look too big. The VW van is also 1:32 but I think it's actually slightly smaller so it might work better.

I bought those last 4 vehicles at a local independent toy store.

The Swat Van, and the ice cream truck and Volkswagens, are all made by a company called Schylling.

Their website lists a price of 8.99 U.S. for the Swat Van but I paid 9.96 CDN so I suspect you'll find it cheaper. I should note that apparently the SWAT Van lights up and makes a noise when it is pushed. Mine does neither so it might be the batteries are dead, but I don't really care as that's not why I bought it.

They're sold loose from a display tray that holds about a dozen of each vehicle, so they don't come in boxes.

There was also a taxi cab and a school bus at the store from the same company that I thought were a bit small when I was there, but now I'm thinking they were probably pretty close to the correct scale.

Schylling has pics of all the vehicles on their website.
