I count thirty add on packs to choose from and we aren't done yet. This is going to be crazy to figure out what to get.

Till last night I was just getting just a Watchtower and a bridge and a bunch of mountain stuff but then I watched the video

I am not into things with skulls but the build as a huge room made me think of all the castle stuff not as castle stuff but as items to build big rooms with 3d battles to use with my dungeon tiles.

So now I am going crazy thinking about all the uses for these in interior builds.

I know that I'm getting GC and watchtower for sure, and he giant mountain pack - then it'll be time to figure out what add-ons I want. I just know that I want my castle a top a cliff with a narrow bridge connecting to my lone tower that is a top a jut of rock and the two are separated by a body of water ( cavern water tiles or maybe a new moat tile??? )

hmm... I really want that giant mountain pack.  Can I do a $20 pledge to get the add-on pledge level and pay the rest down the road?  How long do they usually give backers to pay, is it as generous as Reaper?

I am not in the know, but they usually wait a month or so after the Ks to open the PM and keep it open a month. They have not yet kept it open much longer, certainly not 6-8 months like Reaper.

Last year they also had a presale in August, but Stefan said he has not decided whether to do one or not this time.

Personally I would bet on it unless they finish really really strong. Frankly, they are gonna need to money.

I really wish they had delayed this Kickstarter 6 months or a year. There is lots of cool stuff that I'm sure I'd enjoy using. I have only about $500-600 that I can afford right now. What really sucks is that I would rather spend that money RIGHT NOW on KS1-3 stuff, much of which came out a month ago in their store. But the lure of Kickstarter is hard to resist, the deal is not amazing but free shipping certainly makes it worth it to spend as much as I can during the Kickstarter. My fear is that the things I want in the DF store will be out of stock in a month and I will have to wait 6 months or a year for reprints of things that I have already been waiting a year or more to get.

In short, KS5 needs to scale way way back (ideally be delayed two years). Dwarven Forge cannot expect to grow fast at this point. Each campaign has had fewer backers than the previous and has been more niche. They should have a "Back to Basics" KS that does interesting specialized dungeon environments with fewer sculpts (like KS1 and KS2), plus supplement the earlier stuff with Wicked Additions style pieces.

I would hate to see KS5 not happen till 2018

What I would like to see is KS5 be about is add-ons for the existing lines Dungeon, Caverns, City, Sewer, Castle and Mountain/Outdoor there are a lot of items that each of these lines needs to have things added.

Frankly I wish they would wait to do docks and ships till KS6 in 2018.

Why they keep doing big things IMO is for two reasons

1-Stefan loves the excitement of doing new interesting things, pushing himself and the other artists.

2-As a business they want to come out with stuff before another company moves in and gets to it first.

I would have been happy to see KS4 be about add-ons to Dungeon, Caverns, City and Sewer but they wanted IMO to get castles out before another company beat them to it (which one almost did).

My practical engineering mind still prefers the UpWorks system since it had such an emphasis on using pieces most of us already have. But the part of my mind that likes pretty things prefers this new DF system. It's interesting that DF has a spiritual successor to UpWorks in their trays. Those are still a great idea and I'm glad they're seeing the light of day.

I still think the world was wide enough for both Stefan and UpWorks.

Man this just seems really super expensive for walls that I will just not used on a regular basis.

Even taking into account the possibilities of higher elevations as shown in that video it's just SO much money.

The extras for funding goals seem to be less useful too.

I already have steps and barrels from the previous kickstarter.

I backed the first 3 DW kickstarters and I got a TON of value from the tiles from the first 2.  I don't know if I got my money's worth from the city builder set...

Well, you've only had them for a couple months. :-) I agree that the SGs so far are not going to convince anyone to jump in... *maybe* the lighted gatehouse, but probably not even that.  I hope they have more to wow us with, not that I can afford it.

One thing I have learned over the last few years is that Castles of this caliber are expensive. MBA resin castles were expensive in their KS and these Dwarven Forge castles while less expensive and way more modular are not cheap.

I said before I am not even in the market for a castle, but I am really looking at these now as large dungeon room sets that is something I will use way more often.

I agree that the SG are not the convincing factor with this KS.

Either people want awesome mountain terrain and boss/big battle dungeon room terrain or they do not know they need awesome mountain terrain and boss/big battle dungeon room terrain.;)

They just showed off a motorized draw bridge as an upcoming stretch goal. Also broke $1 Million tonight!  Showed what an Erinthor build looks like; demonstrated building a Grand Citadel.  Showed a hanging parapet.  Fun with batter bases. Lots of great stuff.
