Frostgrave Terrain... or at least frosty terrain

I tried posting these images in Dilvishes' thread, but the links don't necessarily work. Therefore, try, try again.

 

There is this material called "Cracked Ice". It is not ice at all. It is plastic. It is meant for use in 2x4 foot flourescent recessed light fixtures. It is the diffuser panel.

 

But, some blue and white craft paint + a little re-imagineeriing (aka Frogccidental thinking) and semi-frozen water hazards appeared:

 

 

The material is only about 2mm thick.

 

But it looks like it could be deeper when viewed from above.

 

 

These were created before Frostgrave® was written. But they could be useful as ponds for the setting.

Here are some better views of the longer pond that appears in the background of the first post. It looks frigid but a little more melted than the smaller one.

 

Figures are 28mm Games Workshop plastics, I painted the wolf, someone else painted the guys on foot.

 

Viewed looking almost straight down at the same scene shown in the first picture. The square bases are 25x25mm; the wolf's base is 24x50mm.

 

I can even get reflections off the surface if the angle is just right.

Ok, that's totally awesome. Can you describe the painting process (how the texture is negotiated, is there paint on both sides of the clear plastic, etc)?

Yes. Also Menard's, Ace Hardware or FleetFarm are possibilities. But, I can verify HD and Lowe's.

 

A 2x2 foot panel is possible (such light fixtures exist) but they are not as likely to carry that size variant.

@Sanael and Xherman, I am going to try to shoot another image or two to help answer questions. I looked online for a decent picture and failed to find one.

 

Partial answers: the material is about 2mm thick; it is smooth on one side; the texture is on the reverse.

 

Paint: All the paint on the two ponds in this thread is on the textured side. In the images the smooth side is the top surface. I believe it is installed with the texture side down (and obviously unpainted) if used in a light fixture.

What you want is called a "Troffer Lens".
